Just prior to Moonfair 2009, we kicked off a competition that the prize for winning was an autographed copy of Isobelle's
Green Monkey Dreams.
The challenge was this:
In 200 words or less, tell us your weirdest, most memorable dream.(for full details of the competition, click here.)We now have a winner:
Deirdre! Congratulations! I'll PM you shortly with details on how to claim your prize.
Here's her winning entry:
My strangest dream started with a little green man. It was quickly apparent that he was not normal. Round, bald and green skinned he was not pretty but his tea leaves had an aura that made people euphoric. Smugly, he watched on as people came to buy the tea. A woman gave him a doll. They were rivals and to spite her he brought it to life. At this point I woke up but the strange little green man was so mesmerising I made myself go back to sleep praying I dreamt of him again. I was lucky. The little green man was back but this time we were in a glass walled police station. There was a young woman in an interview room being interrogated. The little green man was unhappy with this and walked through a glass wall. He ignored the stunned police and brought her out, obviously annoyed.
I woke up again. It is usual for me to dream vividly but not usually about something so unconnected to anything else. I have not dreamed of the little green man since but he is still very much a major influence to my imagination and my love of tea.[ligne][/ligne]
Here's all the other entries we had, in case you're interested in reading them too! Thanks to everyone who entered!
MoondreamMy wildest, most memorable dream… I was a warrior princess and my enemies had fallen. I stood on top of a mushroom and hollered loudly. Then, I was suddenly transported to my room, which was infested with bees. Then they suddenly flew out of my room, and I flew after them, really slowly, and my mum walked in and demanded to know why I was abusing my powers. I cried and ran out and then I was on a road, and a green troll with glowing yellow eyes, ran and saved me from a creepy bunch of boys who were going to bash me. Then I woke up!!!!

Silver Wind I once dreamed I was following a rabbit through long grass. Then these robots come out of nowhere and try to attack me, the rabbit then turns into a fighter robot and kick their asses. Some how I found myself in this huge basement filled with broken robots and this one female human-looking robot in the middle of the room talking to herself (which I couldn't hear) while in the background I could hear all these voices chanting "Evil Mary used to be good"

misfitmindt started off with me standing infront of a mirror and every time i looked in it how I looked changed. At first i was wearing a black dress with really long hair and later on i was in a pink puffy one with really really short hair. Later on it changed to me sitting outside my house and a cat was sitting next to me. I was watching people drive past and all of the cars had caravans attached to the back. The cat said to me that I had to move the caravans off the property and when i opened my mouth to talk it jumped at my throat, which was wen i woke up.
It was a thourghly weird dream :P

brooklynThe other night I had a dream that I was a forty-year-old job obsessed woman who was told by her boss/secret crush to go on a holiday. Whilst on this holiday I met a man who was teaching a magpie to swim at the beach. Unfortunately, it drowned and washed up near my feet. Birds surrounded the man because there were dead jellyfish all around him. I went across the beach and started to tell him that his bird was dead and saw that he was blind in one eye. I was drawn to the eye and fell in love. We then went swimming in the clear beach water surrounded by jellyfish. Somehow we were not stung and it turned out that he was rich and we went to a dinner party together.

SionainnMy strangest -- and most vivid -- dream was located in non-other than my local Kmart store. The roof however was somewhat larger than it is in reality and included a huge window with the most brilliant view of outer-space. Although the planets and stars were all very lovely, the asteroids plummeting forward were not quite so much, and so it felt as if Kmart was experiencing a major earth quake. I was running about and spotted a group of my friends but was unable to get their attention due to all the noise. Fleeing about for safety, I came across many strange things but the only one I can remember was a giant bouncing pencil -- the cliché yellow kind with the pink rubber-- that had eyes. Somehow I was able to make it out. But instead of finding myself in the car park I found myself standing on my back patio and once again the scenery had changed. No planets or stars, just great hills and the setting sun. Then, as if to complete the dream with a dramatic finale, an angel appeared in a burst of great bright light and I woke up. 8-|

marrumanyelloweyesI was in one of those offices where a person's will is read after they die, to hear my father's will. Suddenly, the greek god Baccus of madness and parties appeared next to me. He offered me a peice of an eggshell and told me to eat it, then dissapeared. I ate the eggshell and passed out. I woke up with superpowers. My father's will was read and I found out I had a brother. My english teacher came in and convinced my mother that my brother was evil and had to be destroyed. I ran away with my brother but was eventually cornered by the teacher. I threw my brother out the window and he turned into a bird.

SianIn my strangest dream, I lived in a village built in amongst the tree tops - very
tall tree tops. Although everything was beautiful there, the paths between buildings were very narrow and I was terrified of falling, so I would have to go slowly and carefully wherever I went. I was ridiculed terribly for it.
One day I did fall, but luckily it was from the lowest platform, so I was relatively unhurt. I realised when I reached the ground, that I was no longer afraid. After all, when you're already on the ground, there's nowhere left to fall.
As it happens, everyone else was terrified of being on the ground and found me even stranger than ever.
As a result, I was later transported to another colony which was situated even higher in the tree tops so that I would never be able to walk on the ground again. I was very worried about this and was petrified at thought of going outside. However, when I got there, they locked me in a closet o_O. I don’t know why. I was in the process of escaping when I woke up.

SofiaMy sister, grin like a wedge of ice, opens the door. “Time to go,†she says.
The way is treacherous; the ground crumbles beneath our feet, each footstep threatening to fall through into the abyss. Nightmare eyes follow our passage, focused only on me, for what used to be my sister is now almost a part of the Apathy that has manifested as something tangible and alive; evolved to become something far more dangerous and malignant than the simple, almost common state of mind it once was.
It comes in the form of figures in vague clusters nearby that are dimly illuminated by the strange glassy light from the ever-present sheet of smog. The Apathy has stripped these once-humans of their will.
The occasional, more recently affected, creature has will left enough to trail us for a few steps. These have the tiniest spark of rage; the only part of them alive enough to fight the Apathy.
My sister leads me to the base of a hill and stops for I have slowed beside her in fear.
“Keep going,†she says.
But I now realise what is beyond this hill and have never been so afraid…
Thanks,
Sofia.

alerose1Hi I'm Alexandra and this was the weirdest one i could thik of!
I was in a world that was separated by a wall. I was wearing a long cloak, had a sword at my side and was holding a weird device that was like as big combination lock. I knew that I had to open it and get the key that was inside the device.
tere was a cat beside me and it was talking to me telling me to hurry up. It was white and fluffy (definitely not Maruman!) there was also a man though I have no idea who. I finally got the lock open and opened the massive gates that led to the place behind the wall. Inside was like a paradise. I walked along and found myself in a large building in the style of a school. There was a group of girls in the corner and as soon as they saw my sword I heard them start to murmur amongst themselves. They went away and after a while returned but this time with the headmaster and some teachers. They demanded to know who I was and as I stuttered out my name they parted and I saw someone who I had thought was long dead. I gasped.

Gahltha_HeartWhen i was younger i used to constantly wake screaming and crying from a dream that i now laugh at. Here's how it goes:
I walked swiftly around the strange red land. My heart thumped uncontrolably in my chest as if it would explode at any moment.
"MUM!" I screamed, but the only responce i got was a look from all the strange, pointy, nosed people, who were standong under old wooden shelters where red and green apples were being sold. I thought i had seen these weird beings before. Each wore black robes and pointy, black hats. Their hair was grey and long. Then it hit me, like a blow to the head. Witches. I almost screamed again as i saw my perants amoung the witches, wearing the same outfit as the witches. Then something grasped at my arm with a painful force. I was turned to see three giant, black pots off boiling water, staring at me. Two of the pots were occupied by my, screaming, big brothers. I screamed and pulled against the rough grip, but was rewarded by being chucked into the remaining pot. My last memory was of my parents grinning and laughing evily.
