Yay - re-visting the thread in 2011. Actually, I remember this thread from when I was just browsing - before I became a member and it struck me, because I was looking in to this same concept too! Still not sure what to make of it yet... hmmm...
It's a wonderful thought, and I’ve often wondered whether it’s just coincidence or it really does have some other sinister meaning. I love Dameon but this would add a completely different dimension to his character if it were true.
I like the fact that Asuras have a very dual personality being “semi-blessed beings†who, like humans, are “partly good and partly evil†and yet “godlike in their piousness.â€
~Link~I found this quote particularly interesting...
Chih-i (538-597), a patriarch of the T'ien-t'ai school, described the Asura this way: "Always desiring to be superior to others, having no patience for inferiors and belittling strangers; like a hawk, flying high above and looking down on others [this sounds very Destroyer like to me] and yet outwardly displaying justice, worship, wisdom, and faith -- this is raising up the lowest order of good and walking the way of the Asuras.
~Link~I can see this relating to Dameon in a way, that is - if he uses his abilities to make other people like him, but I’ve always seen him as the epitome of good!! He is patient and kind, seemingly without ulterior motives... but who knows, people change...
Interesting, interesting. I’ve always loved delving into names and name meanings.
