Does anyone think that if you have reaccuring dreams that they could lead to pyschiatric disorders?
Because that's what happened to me and ive never been able to explain it...
i dont know kaylan.... perhaps but yeah.... ive never heard of that occuring it would depend on the nature of the dream and the nature of the psychiatric disorder..... PM if you wanna discuss this further, im not sure if others will be ok with this thats all *hugs*

Hi there, I know this is from ages ago but I'm interested because I've actually just finished a unit in my course that was all about Mental Health.
As far as I know, Reoccuring dreams don't lead to Psychiatric disorders, more likely that the dreams are a part of the psychiatric disorder.
Hope you're all better now. [img]http://s2.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif" alt=":)" border="0"/>
I don't believe dreams lead to psychiatric disorders, rather that they awaken certain issues that could cause disorders, or that there is something else causing you to have dreams of a certain vividness that could cause psychiatric disorders, but for something else in your mind to cause this that would already have to be an illness.
Well...Can you get a little obsessed over dreams and then get a psychiatric disorder>
I would doubt it, but everyone's different and anythings possible. It would have to be a very big part of your life though.
Hey, if this helps I am a psychologist (not a clinical specialist but still) and I can tell you there is no need to think that recurring dreams lead to psychiatric disorders- far more likley is that the dream either has some significance to you or that when you first dreamt it it was particularly salient (i.e. if it was scary, horrific, super good etc) and you keep thinking about it- if you are thinking about your dream frequently then it is in your mind during the day and you are more likley to dream about it at night.
Very often dreams are fragments of things that have happened to us during the day or things that we have been thinking about and they become mixed up with lots of other sensory input which your brain then attempts to make sense of by making up some sort of relatively coherent story-
research has shown that similar parts of the brain are activated when you are trying to explain abstract things like feelings and beliefs as when you are dreaming. This is believed to be because when you explain abstrac tthings like these your brain has to fill in details for input that is mostly sensory/emotional.
If you are concerned about this you could seek some sort of help or if you want to chat to me about it PM me-
I have to state for legal reasons that any advice I give you would be in the capacity of a concerned friend type because I am not a qualified clincial psych.
So do you think I'm not just imagining it?
