Where does the love go?
Where does the love go when you’re feeling down
When the hurt rips right through you, brings your knees to the ground
The abyss opens wider, to drown you again
And the love disappears; all you’re left with is pain
Where does the love go, tears wash it away
And the clouds just get darker, making night out of day
You no longer have the one you hold dear
When all you are left with is the sorrow and fear
When does the pain go, please tell me and so
Maybe I can start living, I just want to know
The pain it gets stronger, with each passing year
And I would give everything to just hold you near
I’ll miss you forever, this much I know now
And the love will stay with me, I just don’t know how
Where does the love go when I feel like this
Not having you with me to love and to kiss
So where does the love go, I guess it’s a start
To believe that it stays here, still safe in my heart
So where does the love go, my beautiful Liss
Straight up to you in heaven, sealed with a kiss.

Three friends.
I wander though my lonely days
The tears fall down like rain
I wonder if I will ever
Be without this pain
Then share some time with loving friends
We walk and talk and see
The wonders of His might gift
In ocean, field and tree
And standing on the sandy shore
The most impressive sight
As the sky into the east
Glows red gold with His light
Three friends do share this mighty day
The sky so blue and clear
The horses stand majestically
The Father’s hand is near
From place to place we wander free
His gifts are great this day
The awesome sea and bushland scenes
In our hearts they will stay

I thought I'd share some of my more spiritua; stuff with you as well. I hope no-one is offended by it. Cheers.
The Lord's 5th
I ask the mighty Lord each day
Just what I'm meant to do
But he somehow never answers
in the way I want Him to
and even though I listen hard
his words I cannot hear
it seems it’s at my finger tips
that everything comes clear
so pray in words or pray in thought
in story or in song
just pray whatever way you can
and you'll never get it wrong
and though the answer you may get
is something of a rhyme
the prayer that comes from in your heart
is answered in His time

Song to God 2
When your life is full of [censored]
And you've had enough of it
Ask the Lord to comfort you
He always knows just what to do.
When life's so hard it leaves you down
You always seem to wear a frown
Call on God and he'll be there
To love and help and heal and care.
When it seems it’s getting worse
Your life you think is one big curse
Give it to the Lord above
And be surrounded by his love.
You feel so sad you always cry
You talk to god and ask him why
He may not answer as you plead
But he will give the strength you need.
Then by and by the lord I pray
This emptiness will go away
And I can live and love again
Even through the hurt and pain.
So when I'm feeling really sad
And thinking things are really bad
I think of what the Lord has done
He gave for us his only son.

Sisters
Sisters are special, loving and kind
To all of your faults they are so blind
They're there to help you when things are bad
They hold you close when you are sad
When you're blind with grief and cannot see
They lead you on, safe as can be
Until you can stand it on your own
You can lean on them, their strength they loan
Like in the heavens shines a star
Sisters love you as you are
They always do their best by you
They seem to know just what to do
Weather it be a hug or a smile
Or just to cry with you a while
Thank God for sisters is all I can say
They help me make it through each day
And though I wish they will never know
This kind of pain, this hard a blow
I thank them for being here so far
I love them for being who they are

My Best Friend.
I thank the Lord for my best friend
She brings my sadness to an end
She makes me laugh, she makes me smile
Forget my troubles for a while
She talks to me about my fear
She loves me lots and holds me near
And when I need a hand to hold
She’s there for me, won’t leave me cold
To have a friend like her is great
And I will always be her mate
She may not know just what to do
But is there, just ‘cause she loves you

This one I wrote when I was about 8 years old for my Teddy Sam.
My Teddy bear is a special friend
He keeps me warm at night
When I am scared he holds my hand
And we don't ever fight.

Thout I'd share some recent writing because I haven't been here for a long time. I had to write a sonnet for Uni. The sonnet had to be about/to a computer so here it is.
Ode to my computer.
You steal all of my nights and days away:
You hold me in your lovely muted glow.
Enticing me to always stay and play:
I have to wonder where the hours go.
A gentle touch follows a firm caress.
The words that flow from me caught unawares.
My life is yours always I must confess.
I give to you all my hopes and my cares.
You take from me my every waking thought,
And keep them true, secure inside your heart.
I leave, and even when I know I ought
I can not stand it when we are apart
But over the years I have come to see,
Locked safe in your hard drive I’ll always be.

Great sonnet Deb. You made that seem so easy, but I doubt I would be able to write a sonnet about my computer no matter how soon my deadline was.
Funny thing is, now I've read it, I can relate to the feelings and thoughts you expressed :)

LOL Thanks Ari, I actually had to re-write it as I had only 8 syllables per line and for a proper 'English' sonnet there has to be 10. Its called Iambic pentameter or something like that. I was really annoyed as it sounded much better originally I thought.

This is my attempt at a romance for a friendly competion a while back. It might not be quite PG so please be careful.. Its also a bit long, but oh well. I hope you enjoy it.
The City Boy
Verity slammed the door then turned and gave it a hard kick with a dusty boot. “What’s he done this time? Came a voice behind her. She turned with a frown to face her mother. “Damned book learned city boy,†she replied. “He’s been following me around all week now being a pain in the butt, trying to tell me the place would run better his way. I thought it would be fun when he first got here a month ago but it’s all going wrong.â€
Vi gave her daughter a wry smile and said, “I’m sorry love, but you know your dad and his were mates in the army and I think your dad would have wanted us to give his mate’s son the experience he needs now that he has his degree.â€
“I know mum, it’s not your fault if he thinks he’s ‘Mr Wonderful.’ He just gets on my nerves that’s all.†Verity took off her coat, pulled off her boots and walked over to the sink to wash her hands. “Dinner smells good,†she said, “I think I’ll take mine on a tray and get an early night.â€
Vi smiled. “Running away hey? Not going to sit down with our guest tonight?†“Yep, but honestly Mum, if he keeps nagging at me about that new feed mix, I’m gunna have to deck him and he’s bigger than me so I’ll probably hurt myself and I’ve got eighty people to take out for a ride tomorrow.â€
“You know he might be right about that mix. There’s talk in town that the Clark’s are using it now and having good results. Why don’t you give him a chance honey? Besides you have to admit he brightens the old place up a bit.â€
At the sound of footsteps coming across the porch, Verity grabbed her tray shot her mother a surprised look and almost ran out of the kitchen to her bedroom. He’s too good to be true. She thought as she set her meal on the desk beside her computer. Too intelligent; too sure of himself and too damn good looking for my peace of mind. He’s been making me feel like a backward little girl for the past week. I want him to see me as a woman. Oh hell I think I’m in love. I don’t know what to do about him. I know what I’d like to do with him though. She thought with a wicked little smile, and tucked into her dinner.
Daniel walked into the kitchen smiling a hello to Vi, washed his hands and sat at the table where his meal was waiting for him. “I don’t know what I’m doing wrong with her.†He said with a shake of his head. “The first couple of weeks went fine, and then all of a sudden she starts throwing a fit every time I say a word. Help me out here Vi, you’re her mother, what’s going on in that pretty little head of hers? I’m only trying to help make the place run more efficiently, I’m not trying to take over. I know I didn’t grow up on a farm but the new techniques I learned at uni have been proven all over the country.â€
“Don’t worry too much love, it’s not you. It’s just that Verity has been running the trail riding school since her dad died and I think she feels that she will be betraying him if she makes any changes to the way he did things. Give her time, she’ll come around.†Vi passed him a cup of coffee and continued, “lay off talking about the feed for a day or two and just enjoy the ride tomorrow.
Daniel finished his meal and after helping to tidy the kitchen went to his room and booted up his computer. Logging onto the internet he checked his email while he waited for his friend James to come online. *Hey mate, how’s it going out the back of beyond* came the first message. They stayed chatting half the night trying to work out how the female mind works. They didn’t come up with any answers.
Early next morning, Verity and her regular crew; who came out to the farm from the near town; set about feeding and saddling the eighty odd horses that would be needed for the days ride through the bush trails to a camping area where they would stop for lunch before returning to the farm. Making sure that Daniel was working in a separate yard as she tightened the girth straps on the fiery gelding that she would be riding. “I really don’t know what to do Duke.†She whispered to the horse. ‘He makes me feel things I’ve never felt before, including homicidal. I don’t even know if he realises that I’m a woman.†The horse gave a great snort and slapped her with his tail. “Yeah I guess you’re right. He’s only going to be here for a couple more months; if I don’t strangle him; then he’ll be gone. If only I can stay out of his way till then.†She gave the horse a friendly thump then moved onto the next one.
An hour later the regulars, after paying Vi, mounted up and waited for the usual safety talk to be given to the new riders. Then they set off down the long drive, crossed the road and entered the bush trail. Verity managed to avoid Daniel for the whole day. Making sure she was always talking with the riders or helping some of the new ones with their questions.
They arrived back at the farm early evening and after unsaddling feeding and brushing the horses, they turned them out into the paddocks. The crew left to go home and Verity was finally alone with Daniel. “I guess we should head up to the house for dinner,†she said. “Mum will have it ready by now.†She turned ad started toward the house.
Daniel grabbed her arm and gently turned her around to face him. “What have I done Verity?†he asked. “I would really like us to be friends, we started off alright but you’ve been shutting me out for past week.†Verity was stunned. She yanked her arm out of his grip and turned away again. “You keep nagging about that damn feed and try to tell me how to run my own business. I’ve been doing this my whole life and it runs just fine as it is! Haven’t you ever heard the saying ‘if it aint broke, don’t fix it.’ Well don’t fix it!†with that she stormed away.
“Your whole life! You’re just a little girl; you haven’t had a ‘whole life’ yet.†Daniel was instantly ashamed of himself. He was wondering why she brought out all these strange emotions in him when Verity turned again giving him a dirty look. “I may only be twenty three,†she said. “But that’s twenty three more years of experience than you’ll ever have.†Feeling her heart breaking, she made herself walk away although she really wanted to run before he could see the tears building in her eyes.
Next morning they followed the same routine taking another lot of riders out for the day. Verity could not enjoy the ride as she usually did as Daniel’s words kept coming back to her. I might be younger than him, she thought, but I’m not a little girl no matter what he thinks! When the ride returned she made sure she finished her chores and was away from the stables while Daniel was still busy. She got into her car and drove into town just for something to do that that would keep her away from him.
Later that evening there was a knock at her bedroom door. Verity opened the door to find Daniel standing there. “I’ve been trying to talk to you all day,†he started. “I really want to apologise for what I said yesterday. It was wrong of me to say that and it’s not true that you are a little girl. I think you do a terrific job with the farm, not that it’s really any of my business anyway, but I am really sorry and I’d like to make it up to you.â€
Verity looked at him and could see the sincerity in him eyes. “I’m tired;†She said “we have two hay fields to harvest tomorrow. So maybe we should just forget it and go to bed.†Daniel swallowed hard at the mention of going to bed and looked over at the queen sized across the room. Verity blushed and closing the door in his face said, “Goodnight Daniel.â€
Daniel walked slowly back to his room; his head spinning; no, no way! He thought. No way am I falling in love with her. But not being able to come up with any other explanation he logged onto the internet to get another opinion from James.
The next day dawned bright and hot. Verity was ready to go when Daniel walked into the kitchen wearing shorts and a t-shirt. “Aren’t you ready to go yet?†Verity asked, looking at him with a strange expression on her face. “Of course I am.†He replied. “Don’t tell me that’s what you’re wearing to cut hay?†Verity asked. “Well it’s too hot for jeans.†He replied, looking her up and down and frowning at her jeans and long sleeved shirt. “You know that cutting hay causes all sorts of allergies don’t you?†She smiled a little at the thought of nursing him back to health. “Don’t worry†he said. “I never have allergies.†“Oh well, suit yourself. We’re starting in the front paddock near the road. I’ll meet you there. Verity walked out the door grinning.
Ten minutes later they were ready to go. John, one of Verity’s crew, jumped into the rig which would cut and bail the hay. Verity got into the truck with a scoop attachment on the side that would pick up the bails and lift them to where Daniel rode on the back of the truck to stack them. Up and down the paddock they drove cutting, bailing, lifting and stacking the hay. Once the truck was full they had a rest then drove it to the barn to of load the bails and restack them under cover. Then back to the paddocks for the next load.
Vi brought lunch down from the house at one o’clock. “It’s a scorcher today.†She remarked. “And getting hotter by the minute.†Replied John. “Real bushfire weather this.â€
Daniel was quiet during lunch and Verity wondered what he was thinking. He disappeared for a little while and came back wearing jeans and long sleeves. Verity just smiled at him and said nothing although the desire to say ‘I told you so’ was strong. Lunch finished they started on the second paddock and with three more loads to the barn they were done for the day.
Back at the house Daniel seemed to have disappeared. “Have you seen him mum? Verity asked. “He didn’t show up for dinner and he’s not in his room.†Vi shook her head saying, “I haven’t seen him since lunchtime, love. Don’t know where he could be. His car is still here so he didn’t go to town. I expect he’ll turn up when he’s hungry. I’ll just leave a plate for him in the fridge.â€
“Oh well, I’m just going to make sure everything is locked up down in the yards then I’m off to bed.†Verity waved on her way out the door. On her way down he hill she picked a little daisy and pulling off the petals one by one she thought; he loves me, he loves me not. He thinks I’m a little girl; he wants me as a woman. He’s a jerk, but he’s the man of my dreams. At this the last petal dropped. As she reached the stables office she heard a groaning sound from inside. She opened the door to see Daniel sitting on the floor scratching his arms and legs where huge welts had come up.
Verity couldn’t help it. She burst out laughing. “I told you so!†She grinned at him. “That’s right,†he said with a frown. “Kick a man when he’s down. What the hell are these things and how the hell do I get rid of them?â€
“They are hives caused by an allergy to the hay. I think I have some lotion here that will stop the itching.†She said reaching into a cupboard for the calamine lotion. “Where is it the worst?†Daniel gave her a frustrated look and answered, “Everywhere, woman, every part of me itches.†So Verity sat on the floor beside him and started patting the lotion onto his hives, starting with his arms, she made her way up to his neck leaving little pink patches on his skin. Then she reached down to his legs and soothed the itching up to his thighs, slowing down the further up she got. Face burning she handed him the bottle and cotton wool and told him he could finish the job himself.
Tossing the bottle to one side, Daniel gently reached out and touched her face. “I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you today,†he said. “I really have a lot to learn and I’m glad I’m learning from you.â€
“I’m sorry too,†Verity said. I know that I can learn a lot from you too, like the feed mix, but I’ve just been so mixed up inside that I made myself believe that you had no idea what you were talking about. I thought you thought that I was just a little girl playing at being an adultâ€
“That’s what has you so mixed up?†asked Daniel. “I’ve thought you were the most level headed woman I’ve met in a long time. You always seem so sure of yourself; I’m the one who’s mixed up. You’ve made me crazy since the day I got here. You’re so beautiful, so smart……â€
“Oh Daniel, do you really think I’m beautiful.†Verity turned her face up to look into his eyes. “The most beautiful woman I’ve ever met.†He murmured against her lips. “I love you Verity. I think I have from the very first day.†He kissed her again, then again until neither of them had any breath left.
“I love you too, Daniel. I love you!†Verity whispered. Daniel pulled her into him arms and rolled them both until Verity was lying on top of him. “What about your hives?†She lifted herself up on her elbows. “What hives?†He pulled her mouth back to his.

Brilliant story Deb. I'm a sucker for romance, but I think what got me more was I could relate to the rural setting it was written in. The one thing I didnt like was how abruptly it wound up, but that's the nature of short stories. I think you could add a whole lot more to that piece, keep the tension going a little longer :P

LOL Ari, it had a four page max when I wrote it. Actually a lot of the stuff in the story is actaully taken from real life, form time spent at my Uncle's horse farm. I'm pretty much a country girl anyhow so I like to write about rural stuff. Clad you liked it.
*suggestive eyebrows* real life ayeee.
I really like it though.
And the Ode to the Computer is so true. mines practicly a growth from my hands.

Grace.
Where in life I an right now
Is where I’m supposed to be
The struggle that I’ve been through
Made a new girl out of me
The gifts that I’ve been given
Through the hard times I have had
The peace, the joy and empathy
The good things outweigh the bad
And sometimes life can hurt me
Break my heart and make me cry
I lose the ones I love the most
And I sit and wonder why
Peace comes stealing over me
Brings a big smile to my face
He takes my hand and holds me close
Wrapped in His abiding Grace.

Time
Where does the time go?
I wish that I knew
It feels like forever
Since I last held you
Where does the time go?
I’m really not sure
It seems just like yesterday
You went through that door
Where does the time go?
I want to know why
It is but a moment
Since you said goodbye
Where does the time go?
An eternity
Or just a heartbeat
That you were with me
You're really good with rhyming =)

Thanks Kaylan. I had a great teacher at school that helped a lot with rhyming poetry, meter and other technical aspects. I often think that free form is easier to write but I almost always end up with ryhming poems.
I find it so hard to ryhme sometimes so i just write freestyle. Or when I do rhyme it's just bad.
I've never had writing lessons. Maybe I should? *ponders*

Another one I wrote as a kid.
The jester
As the day drew to a close
The jester removed his cloak and hose
The king was satisfied for today
And tomorrow would go away
The jester had a break at last
And soon his jesting days would pass
The king grew older every day
And one day soon would pass away
And leave the kingdom to his son
Who was not fond of jokes and fun

The Mulberry Tree. 21-12-83
The mulberry tree stood firm and green for years and years in my grandparent’s back yard. Every summer I would climb the tree and pick the fresh, juicy fruit. I always ate more than I put in the bucket, but that didn’t matter because there was always enough for everyone to have a big feed and the ones we couldn’t eat or reach, the birds could.
Sitting here now, I wouldn’t even know that it was a mulberry tree had I not eaten its fruit before. All I can see is a huge mass of green leaves and part of the trunk here and there. The fruit is hidden among the leaves and not quite ripe yet, but in another week or so t will be falling from the tree and hitting those who are game enough to sit under it; leaking big red slashes all over them as its done for as long as I can remember.
It’s funny to wake up one morning after a breezy night and finding my grandfather’s car covered in squashed mulberry, but he will insist on leaving it under or near the tree where the fruit can hit it.
I remember picking mulberries with mum last year and how our bodies were stained with the over ripe fruit that fell on us and how our mouths were stained from the fruit we ate. It took ages to rid ourselves of the stains, but we had fun getting them there. Maybe this year we will do it again. I hope so.
I know that next year and the one after that, the mulberry tree will still be there; offering its hidden fruit to those with a sharp eye and a taste for it.
On looking back and then looking to the future, I realise that the mulberry tree will still be there long after I have gone. Maybe they will bury me under it so I can still share my summers with the birds, the family and the mulberry tree.
Yes I did actually write that in 1983. Way before a lot of you were born. :P

Its funny how sometimes the simplest things create such beautiful memories. I had a similar attachment to a lemon tree that used to grow in our back yard. We were like cave men, braking through the rind with rocks so we could eat the sour flesh inside :) I like the warm fuzzy familiar feeling that story invoked Deb.
Also, I really loved Time. You never forget people or events, but somehow you find yourself remembering 10...20...50 years later and just cant fathom where all that time went, or how you got through some of it. Very simple, yet poignant :)
