I just had a look at the other team's thread - I thought we weren't meant to have any rebuttal in the first post?
Zieria
Seems a little unfair if they can get a headstart on their rebuttal, when we have to wait until our second post...
EDIT: Sorry about my previous post, Negative team. |:( I was wanting you to read it (I wasn't sure where else to say anything), but I'm sorry if I offended anyone. |:( The Moonfairy said rebuttal wasn't until the second speakers from each team, but I'm a little hazy on how debates work, so don't mind me. :)
The Agyllians foresaw that if we ignored the weaponmachines and left them in the past (that is, if we don't destroy them) then the whole world will be annihilated.
We should also mention that what the affirmative wish to do; destroying or covering up beforetime technology; is a short-term solution, while ours is a long-term solution. We're devising a solution for the future, not just the present.
* believe that not technology from the Beforetime should be examined and learned from, but not all of it should be usedAh, but we're talking about using Beforetime technologies - we haven't said that we can't learn anything about the Beforetime. *takes refuge in technicalities* I'll come back to that point tomorrow. :P
^ Fair point. This is something I believe as well (which makes it harder for me to rebut
Would you say that it is wrong for the Gypsies to travel across the land, to check on the Signs, just because the Rebellion is underway? No, because Gypsies believe that it is their duty to do so, as do the Teknoguilders with their research, as they might uncover something that might help others.
Insert Helenas comment about elspeths questShes working to understand the how, where and when to get rid of the machines for good not to bring them out on a platter for dissecting which is what the negative seem to want to do with all forms of tech.
"and wait for them to destroy our world?"
"We're devising a solution for the future, not just the present."
"The Negative team believe that technology from the Beforetime should be examined and learned from, but not all of it should be used. We believe that we should use only the technology that will do good."
(not sure if i got this point form their presentation or their thread |:| :P)
The knowledge of the Beforetimers could help us make informed choices about whether or not to keep or destroy the technology that we could find
"Yes, that person plans to destroy the weaponmachines. But to do this, they have to actively seek and discover them. The Agyllians foresaw that if we ignored the weaponmachines and left them in the past (that is, if we don't destroy them) then the whole world will be annihilated."
"The Negative team believe that technology from the Beforetime should be examined and learned from, but not all of it should be used. We believe that we should use only the technology that will do good."
"Obviously, the best way to avoid misunderstandings is to educate the Landpeople about beforetime technology- i.e.: bringing them to the forefront and explaining them instead of covering them up and pretending they don't exist."
Before timer technologies have been discovered that can provide valuable resources; including medical treatment, food, water and shelter; all important social issues within the Land.
This reinforces the fact that people are inquisitive and always trying to improve what's around them- they're going to start making or finding their own technologies, and if they don't know what previously created ones did in the past, things like the great white will just end up occurring again.
Even a certain person-*winks at that person, who blushes and pretends not to see*- in this crowd to day, realises the absurdity of leaving Beforetime weapons in the past. You might say - "Hang on, this person’s quest is to destroy the weaponmachines, not use them!"

Beforetime should be examined and learned from, but not all of it should be used. We believe that we should use only the technology that will do good.
This argument could go in circles. :P
Elspeth may be leading another to them who will use them to cause harm or hold a monopoly over the land.
I'm not the most eloquent person :P
And they seem to be taking our stuff out of context, kind of; which should make anything they come up with easier to rebut, but still it's annoying.

I think it seems to work better to say a little less
during rebuttal we could say that each team has a different idea of what Tech means. the two definitions were different.

Fascination is not always a good thing though. It can lead to obsession, which can have consequences if taken to far. They know that there is danger and they accept it readily, because they are fascinated by before-time technology and the benefits it can provide.
