Just a little snippet or random nothingness I just wrote. Not sure whether it'll be the start of a story or remain as random nothingness (though I keep planning to write a story about something like thing), but just thought I'd put it up here anyways.
When you’re little you think you’re parents can move the Earth. You think teachers live at school and it makes sense that a fat, jolly old man sneaks into your house without even the dog barking. Special effects are beyond your comprehension and Dorothy is an actual dinosaur. Then there are the things you think about yourself.
“I’ll never care what someone looks like, it only matters what’s on the inside.â€
“I won’t be mean to people and talk about them behind their backs.â€
“I will give lots of money to charities.â€
“I will do all my homework on time and study really hard.â€
The thing is, all of these ideas revolve around you. They don’t take into account everyone and everything around you. All these adds on TV saying ‘buy this buy this, your money should go toward useless gimmicks’. You don’t take into account the peer pressure of looking perfect and having a good-looking guy on your arm as if he’s an accessory. The peer pressure of insulting people because they aren’t ‘cool’ so they deserve criticism and the knowledge that if you ace your classes you shall be labelled a nerd, dork, geek or teacher’s pet.
But all this happens gradually. You won’t be able to remember when you started to change or when – if ever – you stopped. If you think about it in all honesty, how proud would five-year-old-you be of sixteen-year-old, twenty-five-year-old or even forty-year-old-you? Would they smile and clap, cheering for their success or would they just stand there in shock, staring as tears ran down their eyes over the disgrace they will turn into?
