i received 26 out of 50, the second lowest mark in my class :) and was told by my EE1 teacher that i shouldn't write poetry.
8-| :O!!?? NONONO! That teacher shouldn't MARK poetry! Don't listen to her! Your poems are awesome! It mustn't be their style. My jaw literally dropped when i read that! And it certainly isn't encouraging for a teacher too say you shouldn't write poetry. Anyways, you HAVE to still do it! For all us Obernetters, who spend half our time actually considering what is written by other people!
(Wow my sentences are really scattered in this post! I'm just writing the truth!)

haha it's fine, hun :) he wasn't the one who marked it, and there was a reason why he only taught Extension 1 (which is more essay writing-based than anything) and not Extension 2 (which is, essentially, a course purely for creative writing). my Major Work was sent to Sydney where it was read by a few different markers before they settled on a mark for it. if i really, really wanted my marks investigated, it'd cost me too much :P so i'm content with them.
thanks for the post, though, it makes me fell all warm and fuzzy inside to know people care :)

Right-o, due to peer pressure and promises of fruit juice from certain obernetters, I have started a novel. So far Prologue, Preface and the first chapter are done and I've nutted out the ending. It's just a case of filling the vast caverty in between.
So, I thought I'd chuck my Prologue and Preface up for y'all, just because I'm cool like that :P
N/B- yes, that is the character speaking in the preface and no, it's not an author-insert, I actually made it like that to set up for the novel. Ye shall understand verilly in yonder future.

Prologue.
I wonder…
Thought a semi-transparent being, standing over a box of books that had been found on a recon raid three days prior. The 13th Division had found it in a human op-shop, battered but still in good condition, and decided that it was worth lugging it back for her.
Just for her.
She reached into the small plastic box, grasped the book and placed it on the table beside its container. Her fingers gently brushed it, carefully turning the first page…
Preface.
Of course there is a heroin of this story. There’s a fairly hunky love interest, too. Well, alright, maybe not hunky in the traditional way, exactly…O.K., at least I think he’s hot. There’s plenty of action, a great plot, decent back-story, arch nemesis- there’s even a bit of sugar, spice and everything nice! Not a lot, but it’s there, I swear!
I guess I should start from the start. Because, you know, it’s supposed to help and all that jazz. It’d be a bit insane to start from the end.
Then again, sanity was never my strong point…

... Tada!
Haha, well done Hel. :) I'm sure you'll do great with however the story works out, your writing is always nice to read. It's very good so far, I love the quirky tone of your character. :P One thing I'm not sure about is the epilogue is usually at the end of the novel, right? You might mean the prologue, otherwise it's a very mysterious ending. Interested to hear what happens! :)

Thanks Fate! :) Yeah, I always get Prologue and the Epilogue mixed up ::facepalm:: This is the first time I've actually used them in anything. ~:|

It's very intriguing so far Helena. I'd definitely be interested in reading more :)
One comment though: should it say 'heroine' instead of 'heroin'?

lol Arwen I noticed that as well. Good start Hell. waiting for more.
Very interesting, cant wait to see what's next.
A hopefully helpful hint: PROlogue, which is a cousin to PRE ( atleast, i think it is...) Then Epilogue, E is the first letter of End.... lol, hope it helps, i always get those 2 confused, too.
