Hey everyone, I just heard that the new Joss Whedon produced show Dollhouse has aired its first episode in the USA! I haven't gotten my hands on it yet... but wondering if anyone else has watched it yet, and any comments??

I have finally managed to obtain the first ep and was able to watch it just now. I thought it was really good. I just hope it's not one of those series that has same storyline different dialogue going... but Joss Whedon has never disappointed me before, so I hang in there impatiently awaiting the next episode! I really like the concept.
EDIT: I agree with Dolorosa who said that it was missing the fantastic witty lines that we are used with with Joss Whedon, but I will hang in there.
Oooh...I can't wait to watch this. I have it sitting here, ready to go...just gotta wait for Paul to get home. He wouldn't want to miss out on new Joss, either. I hope its good [act]leaves reading dolorosa's blog until after viewing[/act]
I just watched it tonight. I quite enjoyed it, but I'm not hooked. I'll comment more fully when some others have seen it.
I watched it today, (and I never watch things online... I made an exception because it's Joss), and I liked it. I also agree with the comment it wasn't as witty as I'm used to for a Joss show. (I guess it doesn't help that in the past four weeks I've watched the entire series of Buffy, and the entire series of Angel for the first time, finishing on Sunday. I'm very much in the "Jossverse").
Pilots are always tricky though, because it's all about finding your feet, I mean look at the X-Files pilot. So I'm confident it'll be great. Unsure whether I'll watch the rest as they come online. Probably not. I really don't like doing it.
I've been reading about this series for months. Will definitely have to take a look. May see if i can download it at the weekend
Thanks for the link. Will have a look
I just watched it! :D Thanks for the link Gypsyelaria. :)
I loved it. It was very intriguing and kinda creepy. I think it has a lot of potential. Hopefully there will be some characters that stay the same throughout the series, because it might become a bit strange if every character switched personalities between episodes. :P But even so, I think it's really interesting. I can't wait for more. :)
I thought it was interesting, as well. I heard from my resident Whedonite (at work) that the pilot we saw wasn't the intended first episode of the series, either - yet again, Fox messing about with Joss' work.
But yes, I thought it was better than most of the rubbish on TV these days, so shall stay tuned and give it a few more episodes :)
From what I can tell with interviews he's given, his experience on Dollhouse pretty much caused Whedon to give up on the medium of TV altogether. He says he's fed up with network meddling and wants to do more web-based shows like Dr Horrible, on which he can have complete creative control.
I wonder if Fox executives ever google themselves and find out how much everyone hates them for meddling in the good shows, and leaving the terrible ones to run for season after season...
I just watched it - I thought it was really good. I hadn't actually heard anything about what it was about, and from reading Dolorosa's first blog I think that may have helped as I didn't go in expecting it to be an exploration of anything. I hate that it wasn't meant to be the first episode, in which case I think we can all assume it would have started better if Joss had been allowed to do it his way, just like Firefly. Come on DVD releases! I know, getting a bit ahead of myself here :P
The house itself is very nifty, I like the beds in the floor thing. And the guy who does the wiping of the minds seems really nice, I like him already.
The bit at the end, that was clearly leading on to next episode, was annoyingly (in a good way) question-generating. It must be so hard for the actress playing Echo, playing a character who is only such a good actress because she has no memory, and also never gets to engage with the other characters in a long-term, meaningful way (thus far). Clearly they were setting her up to start questioning or remembering in the future, but it's still such a strange concept that all the characters but one are going through all this chracter development and growing as a team, and yours isn't. A bit like 50 First Dates in a way.
Anyway, the gist of all this rambling is I liked it. Good work to my brother for downloading it ;D
On the actors topic - I got excited when the guy who plays Helo in BSG came on screen :P I'm just waiting for a Firefly actor - the girl who plays Echo was Faith in Buffy, did she ever go into Angel? Badger from Firefly was in BSG, I got excied about that too :P

I've seen the second episode, and I really liked it - I felt it worked much better than the pilot! ;D I won't say any more now though, because I don't want to give anything away. :P
Oh, and Cat, you might see someone else you recognise in this episode! :P
I think Faith was in Angel a bit (I haven't seen much of it), but either way the scarred doctor is played by Amy Acker, who was one of the main characters in Angel (Fred). ;D
OMG yes! I was wondering why the scarred doctor looked so familiar... Wait what was Fred's role in Angel again? I stopped watching Angel when he started hooking up with Cordelia!
My net is capped but I can't wait to watch ep 2!!

Talk about familiar faces as well as all the Buffyverse and BSG people, the new "doll" Sierra used to be in Neighbours. (Yes, I am a trashy soap addict ;P ) I just watched the first ep. and rather enjoyed it. I liked Boyd (?) her handler and his questioning of the ethics though I wasn't quite sure about the mind wipey dude. Roll on the next one
I think Ep 2 that we've just seen would have made a better pilot :-/ who on earth does Fox hire to make these decisions? It's somewhat good news to hear about Joss giving up on TV and focusing on web-based media. Does it mean that Dollhouse won't run very long though :-/ ?
Cat - I agree - the guy in 2nd ep was just MENTAL. Completely freaked me out.
And the Alpha storyline is so mysterious - I've got no idea what's going on there, and I love it - that I can be surprised by a show. Do you think Alpha's possibly from Echo's (/Caroline) past, that's why he didn't kill her - he somehow remembered? Did the Dr with the slashed face help him perhaps, and that's why she looked so guilty - or was she just honestly frightened?
50 First Dates is a good analogy - and it reminded me a lot of the movie The Island, as well, for some reason.
I liked this way more than the first episode. Should have opened with an actiony episode like this, but alas, we all know how FOX loves to stuff us around.
So, has anyone else seen the third episode yet?
I love how the guy helping the cop (Helo from BSG) is actually a doll! Pretty cool twist. His poor neighbour not being allowed into the hospital room sucked though, no one's going to be there for him!
It wasn't the world's best episode, but I still quite liked it. I don't think it's nearly as good as Firefly yet though...

Well, it would be very hard to reach the level of awesomeness that is Firefly. ;D
But I have seen the third episode - I agree it wasn't the world's best episode - plus it wasn't as strong as the second one - but I enjoyed it. I liked that they're building a relationship between Echo and Sierra. I also liked that the Russian guy was a doll. And I felt really sorry for the girl who lives next door to the cop - she seems really sweet, but he doesn't really even notice her. My favourites are still the science guy, Boyd (Echo's handler), and the doctor. ;D
I just finally realised why Sierra looked so familiar! She's an Aussie actress who was in Neighbours not to long ago!!
I'm loving this series. Episode 5... I'm loving the continuous theme that Echo is starting to break out of the "Doll" mold. As well as Sierra and (is this is Doll name?) Victor? So funny "man-reaction"!!
This week's episode was left a bit hanging. Exactly what was Jonas doing with all those weapons? They did not say. And if that guy was the one who set it all up, so they could get a warrant, and therefore none of the followers were unhappy or imprisoned, on the contrary quite content where they were - what was wrong with the whole cult?
Hmph
To comment on previous episodes, Eliza is showing herself to be multi talented to say the least! She hasn't got bad vocals to be singing with Rainer.
I do wonder what that girl, Melly (?), the one who lives next door to the FIB agent - what her relevance is. It could not merely be that she's in love with him? She keeps reappearing!
