Here is more of blind running. I promised myself I would not get oppsesed with this lol. Oh well. here is more:
The next morning, Kaleb drove Keira, and the younger kids, who went to Riverdale private school, to school.
“Want did you think of that Seb boy Keira? You had the longest conversation” Kaleb asked as they pulled up at school
“I don't know Kaleb. He seemed nice enough yesterday when I was talking to him. He is meant to meet me this morning before school. I am going to show him around” Keira replied.
“Will you be alright?” Kaleb asked worryingly
“Of course. I can find my way around this school Kaleb. I have been here for 6 years now” She replied with slight scorn. Keira never really liked when Kaleb babied her. Just because she is blind doesn’t mean that she couldn’t look after herself, but her family sometimes treated her as if they thought this.
“I didn’t mean that and you know it Keira. I don't trust him. Are you sure you will be alright with him?” He replied now, looking down his nose at Keira.
“Well I do. Until he gives me reason as not to trust him, then I will treat him as I treat everyone else at this school. Don’t worry Kaleb, if I start to feel threatened, I can just give you a call or text. I will see you at lunch and recess anyway, and in English later on. Don’t worry about it, I will be fine”
They had started to walk into the school now. They got to the Gates, and Sebastian was leaning against one of the pillars.
“Hey” He said.
“Hi. Ready to discover the school?”
“Sure. Why not?”
“Ok. Do you have your timetable?” Keira asked.
“Sure, came in the mail yesterday. I have maths, then Physical Education. Than I have some eng528 thing. Is that English?” He asked
“I think so. Give it to Kaleb, he can have a look”
“Sure, I can have a look” Kaleb said sarcastically. Keira elbowed him. “Omph”
Seb handed Kaleb his timetable, and Kaleb had a look through.
“Yep, that’s English. You have all the same classes as Keira. Lucky you Ke Ke” He said once again, sarcastically.
“Oh shut up you. Well that’s helpful, now we wont have to meet up or anything. Ok Math's first. That’s in B block. Lets go!”
As they headed off, Seb asked about how the school worked, and about her own family.
“So, how many children is there all together?” He asked Keira
“21. But only 5 are adopted” she replied with her crooked smile
“Does that include the new baby?”
“Sure does. Mum and Dad aren’t going to have anymore though. The doctors have warned mum about having too many kids”
“So, what are the age ranges like? I mean, theres you and Kaleb. Any older children?”
“Sure. There’s Alex, Gabbie and Charlie. As well as Me and Kaleb. Then the rest are all younger”
“Wow. sixteen younger then 17. that’s a lot”
“Well, there's Little Timmy, he's the youngest apart from the baby. He’s 3. then there's the triplets, their 5. There’s the boy twins, their 13. then there's the 4 adopted kids; Charlotte, Cameron, Casey and Cassie. Their 5,6,9 and 15. Then there's Joey, who’s 7, Jamie who’s 10, Jackie who’s 16 and Lara and Nikki, the other twins, who are 14”
“Wow, that is a lot of kids. Where do you all fit?”
“Well, Timmy, Michael and Peter share, then Karly, Charlotte and Jamie share. Um, Cameron, Joey, Casey, James and Terry have the biggest room to share. Lara, Nikki and Cassie share. Then Kaleb, Gabbie and I all share. Alex lives in the states with his girlfriend and Charlie lives with his wife and kid. The baby is in the room with Mum and Dad but when she gets older she will go in with Karly, Charlotte and Jamie”
“Sounds like a proper army camp. How do you all eat”
Keira laughed. “Crazily. The little kids eat first, and the ones over 12 eat. It saves hassle. While the little kids eat we do out homework, then while we eat the kids get to watch their shows. Sometimes there are fights over the T.V so this was the easiest way to work it all out. Gabbie cooks most of the meals, being an apprentice chef, so meals aren’t a problem unless she had to work late in which Kaleb, Jackie, Cassie and I will cook”
“Wow” Seb breathed
They had reached the classroom now. As they sat down, Keira asked him about his own family.
“I know. What about you anyway? Any siblings?”
“Just an older brother. But I haven’t seen him in ages. Apart from that its just Mum, Dad and I. I don't even really remember my brother”
“What does he do?”
“Um, Not sure. Something that racks in money mum said. But I don't think she likes his job. She never really speaks about Jack anymore”
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t pry”
“Not your fault. I was prying also. It was your place”
“No, It wasn’t”
They looked away for a while then, both to awkward to look at each other.
“Sooo” Seb started “How does the school work?”
“What do you mean?”
“Is there groups? People you are and aren’t allowed to hang around with?” He asked her. Keira turned to the front of the class now. Every since she had hit high school, she had always been liked by nearly everyone. It had never accrued to her that there might have been groups at the school
“I suppose so. I have never really thought about it before. There is the ‘big group’ which includes Kaleb and I. and most of the football, basketball those sorts of teams. As well as the cheerleaders and the singers. I don't really know though, you would be better asking Kaleb. Everyone is the same to me. I cant see how beautiful people look or what their wearing. I can only tell with their voices or the way they walk. Everyone is the same to me. I am friends with the science club, as well as being part of the cheerleading squad and the lead singer in all musicals. I am head of the writing club, as well as the S.R.C and the Math's makers. Everyone is the same to me. Like I said, You’d be better asking Kaleb” She flashed him a smile, and he stared at her, mouth agape, a strange look in his eyes.
“Hello! Keira, who is this?” The young, blond haired girl said as she bounded into class, just in front of the teacher as always.
“Oh, Hi Serena, this is Seb. He moved into old Man Wilson's house”
“Hello! I’m Serena! You staying or selling that old joint?”
“Um, Hi. I think we are staying for the time being!”
“Well good! It will be good to have some more man candy around here! See you at Lunch Keira?”
“Of course Serena”
“Miss Serena, could you please sit down. I am ready to start my class!”
“Sorry Mr. Hutchinson. See ya later Keira!” she blew Keira a kiss, before bounding over to her seat next to her boyfriend, Matthew.
“Sorry about her. She’s a little, over active”
“Is she always like that?” Seb asked, one eyebrow raised as he turned from watching Serena, to what the teacher was writing on the board
“Mostly. Sh we better be quiet. Mr. Hutchinson doesn’t like talking”
“Welcome back Class. I hope you all had a good holiday. Welcome also to our new student, Mr. Wilson, who will be joining us for the rest of the year. Today, we will be starting Finance. Yes, yes I know you all love it”
They sat through the lesson. Seb was surprised at how much Keira was able to do. She had a Braille book in front of her, and she wrote everything using Braille. But she was one of the first people to answer questions, and finished her work first also. Seb, who had done this course back at his own school, so he sat through most of it watching her, wondering how she could have such a happy outlook on life. He thought of everything she had said that morning, and about how she viewed things differently from everyone else. He thought about her family, and how they seemed like such a close knit bunch, and how much different it was from his own family. He’s older brother, jack, was a druggy, though he would never tell anyone here. Seb supposed that was one of the reasons that his mother had agreed to move in the end; at least here, no one knew she had a screw up son. But maybe that was also why she was so protective of Seb, she didn’t want him turning out like Jack. Seb turned to the board, and copied down the homework as the bell rang for end of class.
“Mr. Wilson, could I see you and Keira for a second please?”
He walked up, Keira was still putting her books away.
“What can I do Mr. Hutchinson?” He asked the teacher
“Mr. Wilson, you have missed the first part of our unit. Now, I saw on your old school file that you have already done this Finance unit. During this unit, you can go through the business that we have already done. If you have any questions, you may ask Keira. I hear you two are neighbors?”
“Yes sir, we are” Keira replied
“Very well. I will give you all the homework, and you can pass into me what you get down”
“Would you still like me to do the homework for this unit sir?” Seb asked him, hoping he would not have to.
“No, but I will need you to do the test. Your marks from your old school will carry over, but I will need to make sure that they are right none the less. Pass in your homework on the dates that I have written at the top of the sheets, and ask Keira if you have any questions or Queries. She can answer anything almost as good as I”
“Of course sir. Goodbye!”
“See you next lesson Seb. Keira, I hope this is alright with you?”
“Of course sir. I have no problem with it at all!”
“Very good. See you two next lesson”
They walked out. Seb looked back once to see Mr. Hutchinson looking funnily at Keira and himself, and he wondered why Mr. Hutchinson was looking so sadly at Keira. He was looking at her as if. . . As if they were going to lose her very soon. Suddenly Keira Grabbed Seb’s arm, dragging towards a heap of lockers in which a group of kids were standing.
“Come on! If you don't hurry, we wont get any recess, and then we will be so hungry in P.E”
Seb stared at her stupidly then. He was wondering how she was even able to do P.E. They arrived at the lockers, and the one next to hers had a note on it which said it was reserved for Seb.
“Look, they already have a locker for you!”
“Hey Sis” Kaleb said now as he came up to them. “How was math?”
“You know, same old same old. Oh, do you have money for recess? Dad forgot to give me mine. I think he left it on the bench again” She screwed up her face, bunching her nose up. Seb stared, and wondered how she got more beautiful with every second.
“Sure did sis. He did leave yours on the bench again. Yo! Jacob! You coming?”
“SURE THING KALEB! SEE YOU IN THE CAF?”
“SURE THING! SEE YOU THERE!”
“Are, the mating calls of the basketball stars. Lets go before the whole caf is taken over by them” Keira commented, once again doing the cute crooked smile and the bunched up nose.
“Oi! It wasn’t mating calls. We was having a civilized conversation”
“civilized! Pft that was even worth calling a conversation”
“Whatever sis. Come on. If you want some potato cakes, you better hurry up otherwise you wont be getting anything” Kaleb said, before giving her a bump and running ahead of them. Keira headed off at a slower pace, with Seb keeping pace with her. As they got closer, a big group started to form around them. Kaleb’s basketball friends joined them, making a great lot of noise, and the cheerleaders and singers joined them as well. Keira said hello to every person they went past, the people in and out of their group included. As they entered the Caf, Seb had a look around. The caf was very stylish, with couches and chairs everywhere and a good supply of different foods. As most of their group broke off and took over a big circle of couches and chairs, Keira, Kaleb, the loud Jacob boy, another girl and Seb all went over to where the food was sold.
“You going to get anything Seb?” Keira asked him, as they waited in line.
“Not sure. Is there anything good?”
The loud Jacob boy slung his arm around Seb “Everything here’s good boy. Good for growing”
“Not that you need to do anymore, Loud mouth. Be kind to the new boy, I bet he’s not used to big school’s” Said the petit little girl who was with them. “I’m Lexi, by the way”
“Sebastian, but you can call me Seb”
“I bet only your mother calls you Sebastian right?” Keira asked now with a little laugh.
“Yep. And only when she is mad with me. Which is mostly always” He let out a laugh himself, and the others laughed along with Seb. But when Keira started laughing, they all stopped, including Seb and Kaleb, to listen. Keira stopped eventually, and stared at the others.
“Oh stop it you lot. You should be used to it by now”
“Yer miss blind, but it’s still freaky. It’s just so nice to listen to”
“He’s right sis. Maybe you should make it not nice to listen to” This started them all off laughing again, Keira still laughed as loud as ever, obviously not worrying about what people thought. Seb once again found himself wondering about how different she saw things from the rest of them. Or, didn’t see things.
“What can I get you laughing pack of Hyenas?” The serving lady asked them
“You got any potato cakes, Charlene?”
“Always got some for you miss Keira. And the normal for the rest of you?”
“Yes please Charlene. Seb what would you like?” Lexi asked him
Seb had a look at what was there. The boys had gotten pizzas, the girls potato cakes and yogurts. “I think I’ll just get some chips”
“Risky move there newbie. You wont get to eat many off them” Jacob said before taking one out of the top. He had a big goofy smile on as he ate it. Lexi elbowed him in the stomach as they walked back to where everyone else was, and he spat chips everywhere.
“What ya do that for Lex? Jacob said through half a mouthful of pizza.
“Because you should be nice to the new kid that’s why. Stop trying to scare him off!” They all looked down at the little commander, and they all started laughing again. Seb thought about this school compared to his old one. He looked at the laughing faces and the smiling friends. And thought how much better this year was going to be.
there you have it. There is a bit more of it. more later!
