"Th' Farseekers manage frequently wi'out their leaders, Roland," Maryon responded. "An' wi' less warnin' than this. It is part of yer task to make it happen."
I heard her steps coming toward the door, and dashed away, wishing I hadn't as soon as dizziness clouded my vision. I turned a corner, and leaned against the long hallway.
Maryon had to be lying. She'd never directly tell me who was in danger. Would she?
And
stow away on a ship with the
leader of the farseekers? I would be captured instantly. Nobody could make themselves invisible, certainly not without any coercive ability.
Wait a minute. Coercers - hadn't some coercers hidden themselves from Elspeth in order to get to Herder Isle, when they brought down the Faction, with demon bands? I'm sure that was what they used. The Empaths had written a song about it.
We must find a way to Herder Isle,
Use no talent but use our guile,
To mask us from the Herders gaze,
A demon band masks us in haze...
I had to find a demon band - it was the only way.
