There is a thread, I know, for discussing theme songs, original music composers, and such, but ever since the 'Ober Idol' competition this moonfair I've been wondering...
If Obernewtyn were a musical, what songs would the characters sing?
Just picture Elspeth, newly condemed as a misfit, sitting in the carriage on her way to Obernewtyn. Her guardian is asleep, and it's just her. She starts to sing a lament for what happened between her and her brother...
"I did my best to please you
But my best was never good enough
Somehow you're only able to see
All I am not
Did you ever look behind
Aren't you afraid of the pieces you'll find
I have failed you
but you have failed me too
It's so easy to destroy
and condemn
The ones you do not understand
do you ever wonder if it's justified..."
(Within Temptation, Destroyed)
Or the rousing duet between Rushton and Elf at the end of Ashling.
Not that I think a musical would be the best way to turn these books into movies, but it's fun to think about, anyway.
