I usually never remember a full dream, just segments of them, and basically i'm writing this dream down because I can still remember exactly what was said in it even though it must have been almost a year since I dreamt it.
At the point I had the dream my grandmother had been dead just over a year, my grandpa had just had surgery on his gangrene affected leg (which was still attached at that point), and I'd just come back from visiting him and my dad, step sister ect. in Europe.
So me and some of my old friends from Europe were playing a mixture of basketball and soccer in the yard in front of my grandpa's house, somebody scored a goal or something and we were all cheering. We went up the stairs to the front door, I remember watching my cousins run up stairs to the attic and then I was with my gran. She was leaning against the wooden framing of the stair case and she smiled at me. She didn't look sick, just tired but I knew she was dieing anyway. Everything went quiet at that point.
I was close to her, I sat down on the rails smiling, I was still fairly cheerful. Her breath smelled rotten (mum said her mouth was sort of decaying after chemo) , it reminded me of how she use to tell me stories before bed when i was little. Like she'd read my mind she nodded at the painting of a jeweled castle hanging on the wall, it hadn't been there before. She was smiling again, but she looked sad. She asked me what I saw, I told her it was a castle. She asked me what castles had. I was younger now. I said jewels.
I hadn't a clue what she was on about, she looked sadder. She asked me what castles were for. I was confused, then suddenly I got it - though i wasn't sure what. I told her they protected princesses, that they had defenses, armies, wall that they were strong. She was pleased, but still sad. She told me I needed to be strong. I said I wouldn't let her go, I'd looked after her. But she shook her head, told me that she was gone (i'd known that already), said I needed to be strong for my grandpa, to give him hope, look after him, not let him go after her.
I'm not sure if she was gone at then, but she went out of focus at any rate. My hair was long again, I was walking towards the living room door. I saw my grandpa's feet handing over the couch edge, the room was brighter than the rest of the house (I think the blinds had been drawn in the hall). Then I woke up.
THat's amazing you can remember a dream even though you dreamt it a year ago.
