The Moonfairies are pleased to reveal your first guide on your journey to Obernewtyn: Garth - guildmaster of the Teknoguild. Please make him feel welcome.[act]a hearty applause arises from the crowd, eager to commence the trek. Garth basks in the attention for a moment and then signals for the crowd to calm down.[/act]
So you're all here because you want to see what the world was like before The Great White eh? Funny, looking at you lot, you'd think that you'd possess some knowledge of the land that once was.
It is not matter in any case, because it is my job as a researcher to help educate people of a time that has long since passed. Erm... even though we are currently in it right now - that's okay, you don't need to know the specifics... heck, even I don't know the specifics! All I know is when the Moonfairies presented with me with an opportunity to see this world... at the small price of parting with a bit of knowledge with you lot, well what teknoguilder in their right mind would say no?
In any case, so you want to know more about how the Beforetimers travelled in their world? Ah, well, they had quite a few methods, choice of which depended upon terrain and weather, as well as social class, cultural, heck even sometimes gender in age. Today I've been asked to introduce you to one mode of transport to begin your journey to Jacob Obernewtyn's land and at the same time I'll be able to gather more knowledge for our research.
First, a bit of background; The Beforetimers at times (we've found generally before elections of major Govamens) placed a great emphasis on reducing what they referred to as their 'carbon-footprint'. Although our preliminary research studies into carbon suggests that it doesn't even have appendages let alone a foot, one way the Beforetimers proposed to achieve this was to cram many people into a tiny box which moved them places. Many major cities had networks have a variety of these vehicles.
Our recounts of the reliability of the system are somewhat contradictory, but none-the-less it was a popular mode of transport. Thus, to introduce you to your initial experience into the world of the Beforetime, we encourage you to catch what they referred to as '
public transport'.
Now, in order to board these vehicles, apparently different types require a unique form of payment. We've gotten a few teknoguilders on the job and they have uncovered the following items which could potentially offered in exchange for travel. However, our research at the moment is a little lacking in this area and does not extend far enough to associate which object with what mode of transport. This is where you step in.
Task 1: Your task is to chose the mode of transport you wish to travel on and what object you will have to use in order to pay for your travel fare. Please choose one mode of transport (either a bus, train, tram or monorail) and explain to us what object from the ones we have found that you will use and how in 200 words or less. Hint: Remember, that it is your fellow travellers who will vote on the best suggestion - so consider your answers carefully. Creativity is likely to go a long way... Please
post your answers in this thread below. You have until
midnight AEST Saturday 11 September 2010, after which this thread will close and a polling thread will open for 3 days for you to vote on the answer you appreciate the most from your fellow travelers.
If you have any further questions, please pose them in the
'Questions and Comments' thread. Please do not have any discussions in this thread: it should only contains submissions to the Task. Any other posts will be deleted.
In the meantime, we would be quite interested to know the first hand experience of using the Beforetime public transport systems, so please feel free to share your and the group's experience of travelling in the Beforetime true to Obernet rpg style ;) in the
'Travelling memoirs' thread ;D
Now excuse me, there is important work I must return to...
