Cool thread :) I think the person (whose name I forget, unfortunately) came up with that theory about Dameon based on his name, gave us some new insights on Isobelle Carmody's style. It seems that names do have significance in her novels, and I believe this is true in the legendsong saga in particular! I like your conceptions of Bleyd and Coralyn in particular.
Solen1.
( noun ) solen a cradle, as for a broken limb See Cradle, 6 2 ( noun ) solen any marine bivalve mollusk belonging to Solen or allied genera of the family Solenidae; a razor shell 2.
re arrange the letters of Solen, and you have the word, "Noels"
The Latin origin is the word natalis ("birth") untimely birth 3.
Danish for sunWill Solen play a role in the protection and saving of a character with a broken limb or aura? (will he end up being a cradle for a sick Glynn at one point? perhaps Glynn may well eventually fall off that cliff).
Solen became a part of the very significant, and unexpected, link between Glynn, the two Fiennas, and himself. It was an untimely birth of the Fienna, and the untimely birth of something much much bigger than all four of them put together.
Does Solen have a connection to the Keltor sun? or even the comet?

Tarsin Word meaning: stepchild; ‘half-clamshell child’How important is Tarsin's heritage to the story? How important is his relationship to his mother? what does it tell us about him? will their relationship and Coralyn's past play a bigger role in darkbane?
~~~
Alenethe meaning of Alene is "precious; awakening; light; sun ray, shining light".
Fitting, don't you think? perhaps she will be an even greater light as the story progresses. Perhaps she will shine the greatest in her darkest hour.
ArgonOrigin / Meaning of the name Argon
The name originates from the Greek word 'argos' meaning inactive.
argon
chemical element, 1894, Modern Latin, from Gk. argon, neut. of argos "lazy, idle, not working the ground, living without labor," from a- "without" (see a- (3)) + ergon "work" (see urge (v.)). So called by its discoverers, Baron Rayleigh and Sir William Ramsay, for its inert qualities.Argon is an interesting character, who i'm sure we'll see more of in Darkbane. Is there something inert about him? it may be related to his soulweaving tendencies (and ancestry of course). Or the fact that he's a kind of "outcast".
AsaAsa \a-sa\ as a boy's name (also used as girl's name Asa), is pronounced AY-sah. It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Asa is "doctor, healer". Biblical: name of the third king of Judah, who reigned for forty years. Made popular by the Puritans in the 17th centuryVery interesting. I'd like to see some other comments on this.
Draaka thoughts
"Draak" in dutch means 'dragon'. I'm wondering whether the void spirit is a dragon. Interesting that the flag of East Flanders (in Belgium) contains a dragon! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Flanders
Of course it may not literally take the form of a dragon...
Is that the creature that lurks in embers "dream" of Shenavyre?
The firstmade is a unicorn (harmony & love), I suppose a dragon could be an opposing creature that may represent chaos~~~
SigneFrench word, roughly meaning 'sign' or 'indication'.Interesting that the word has no 'healer' connotations, is Signe this grand healer vision weaver? or is she instead the interpreter and header of "signs"?. I.e. perhaps she is not the grand healer expected by Ember, but someone who will guide and inform her.
~~~
ShenavyreOf course, there is no definition of 'shenavyre' however, "SHEENA" (also known as
SHENA) is the Anglicized form of "SÃŒNE".
And "Sine" is very close to "signe". Shena means "God is gracious".
Do signe and Shenavyre have some sort of connection?

Glynnnn\ as a boy's name (also used as girl's name Glynn), is a variant of Glen (Irish, Gaelic) and Glendower (Welsh), and the meaning of Glynn is "glen; valley of water".Glynn as the valley... a valley features in Ember's "shenavyre" dream. Also, perhaps may have a connection to the valley near the cliff in ember's visionweaving. The glen is a symbol featured in scottish and Asian culture... when you see pictures or images of a glen or ravine, it comes across as peaceful, pristine and abundant with life. Glynn seems to be a character in deep connection with untouched, natural beauty.
