This month's read is Going Postal by Terry Pratchett (in case you didn't realise from the title of the thread :P ). The television adaptation will be showing on the ABC on the 17th of December, so read the book, watch the adaptation, and share your thoughts here :)
Turn on channel 2 now!! (If you're in NSW, Victoria and Tasmania, other states turn over at your 7:30pm ;) ) The Going Postal BBC adaptation is about to start!
I've already seen the Tv adaption. Not how I really saw the characters in the book but I still enjoyed it. :D

Well, I've now seen part 1 of the adaptation
I agree, it's not how I saw the characters, but I still really enjoyed it. When I first saw Pump I was like "No! No! No!" but then he started growing on me. I love Adora!! And Moist was really growing on me.
I think it helps that I haven't read the book in ages, so whilst the events are familiar I'm not sitting there going "But what about this scene?" It does make me want to read the book again (or maybe that's because I finished Snuff and am really into Pratchett right now). Although actually, I'm not sure that is the case, thinking about it, I think so long as I'm interested in the adaptation I'm pretty happy to go along with what they're showing!
I really liked the scenery and the sets etc. The printing press stuff was awesome, and I'd always struggled to picture a clacks tower, so seeing one was fantastic.

I enjoyed the first part of the adaptation last night. I had no idea what to expect as I haven't actually read the book yet. I promise I've been meaning to go to the library and borrow it! :P
Actually, despite not reading the book, I was in two minds about watching Going Postal. Firstly I wanted to watch it because I love Richard Coyle (I've only seen him as Jeff in the BBC comedy Coupling, but one show is enough to make you love an actor right? :P ), but then again I didn't want to watch it because I really didn't like the adaptation of The Colour of Magic (which is the only other TP adaptation I've seen), and maybe if I didn't like this one, my great love for Richard Coyle would be diminished. I'm pretty sure I'm babbling here... Anyway! I definitely liked it better than The Colour of Magic!
Like Cat, I really liked the scenery and CGI as well. I found the opening credits loads of fun to watch. And I loved that Tamsin Greig (sp?) made an appearance. I'm hoping that I'll be able to watch the second installment! I'll be working late-ish, then my extended family will be arriving for dinner. Argh! It's alright that I blow them off to watch tv, isn't it? :P Anyway, I'm definitely motivated to actually leave the lunch room during my break at work and pay a visit to the library to get the book.
P.S. Cat, I really like your avatar! XD

I've only seen a bit of Hogfather, I fell asleep watching it. To be fair, it was about 1am. I haven't seen The Colour of Magic, so this is really the first adaptation of the Terry Pratchett books that I've seen (except for the cartoons of Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters that were on when I was a kid).
I loved the opening credits! I just had to google to work out who Tamsin Greig is (Fran in Black Books), but I agree she was good. Seeing her there and hearing about the papers kind of made me wish they'd adapted The Truth first, as it's sort of related to Going Postal in a bit of a roundabout way. Well, it works in my mind! At least, even though they haven't made adaptations of those other books, they kept the characters as they are for the fans who have read the books. Even though the photographer from the Times was only in GP for one scene, they kept him as a vampire.
About the avatar - thanks! I stole it from someone else, can't lay claim to it at all ;)
