*resurrecting an old thread to ask related question* I was wondering, less so about the identity of the second null, as it would definitely make sense for it to Lidge, but what Ariel's purpose with him is.
Assuming that it was Lidge, it's reasonable to believe that Ariel discovered his blocking/static ability and perhaps sought to amplify it and use it for his advantage. He wouldn't take the null with him unless he thought it could help him achieve his own ends. That being the case, I wonder if he plans to use him against Elspeth, much in the same way as a "wireless" demon bands? If that were the case, he would essentially be able to neutralise her talent at a critical moment, without having to touch or go near her (thereby keeping himself out of harms way).
This would weaken her, and perhaps amplify the need for her to control her spirit force, as she might be able to overcome it. But at what cost? She is either mindbound, or exhausted, and both would place her at a severe disadvantage (perhaps cue intervention of destroyer, trying to help but "accidentally" making it worse)
That would be a very morally grey decision though, if she had to choose to kill/harm a child whose life/mind has already been destroyed by Ariel...
