I'm starting a new one of these OberNoWriSu threads because I moved the old one over to Prodders since it had snippets in it.
So, currently it's OberNoWriAu any my goal is 80k.
On the minus side, I think the dumplings I ate for lunch yesterday gave me food poisoning. That meant I spent the night throwing up and feeling miserable.
On a positive side, I'm feeling a bit better today (although lunch didn't go down very well; sigh), but not good enough to do anything productive around the house, so after countless hours surfing the Facebook, I settled down to some writing and got 5k-ish words written.
Current total: 35k.
Yes, good. And now it is the weekend so Shonk can catch up on words.
Another 5k or so today. 40.2k words. I guess that compensates for that week I didn't write in March :).
Another 2300 words today. 42.5k. Better go do something constructive before heading into work, now, I suppose.
Oh, look! Only 9am! I wish daylight savings ended every day!

Amazing totals there, Darga. I wish I were as inspired as you are
You know what I think :P. I'll write a bit more later this week and then share.

48,850, so another 6000-ish words in the last three or so days. Lots of plot holes in Chapter 8. I was kind of coming up with rationales for stuff that's going to happen, and it all turned into a bit of a exposition.
Oh well. Yet another thing to sort out in the edit, if we get to that stage. And in the meantime, onwards and upwards.
Nothing yay about those words, Shonk. Nothing yay about the entire book, I would suggest.
There are lots of dying people so far. I am amused :D
Incidentally, as you know, worldbuilding and Dargas do not agree. Therefore if there are aspects of either society that you reckon don't make sense or want to know more about, feel free to put in requests. :)
Well I think your organism stuff is a perfect fit--not just cause it ties in nicely with the themes of parasites already, but because, well, humanity definitely would have introduced so much damaging stuff that it's nice that you've addressed it.
Like I already said though, I'd definitely introduce that bit earlier in the story, and also the bits about humanity building their towers and taking the magic. Previous to this chapter I was kinda assuming humanity had never actually been to their planet before and that they had just somehow accidentally tapped into the magic from earth. Ethan's reactions to their world cemented the idea since it seemed entirely alien to him--of course, now I'm assuming that the other planet discovery was/is a government secret, something to do with Calli's father, but yeah.
That is thoughts so far.
Oh, I did have some comments in regards to your geeks as well:
There was an early reference to Luke Skywalker's lightsaber as a sword--nope, no, don't :P Geeks will eat you alive for that.
I also had to laugh at the reference that it didn't matter to geeks that Calli was a girl, that sexism isn't really a thing for them--mostly because Geek/gaming culture in reality is incredibly sexist. There is a pervasive view that if you are a girl and you enjoy playing games then you are just doing it for attention because video games are for boys and are made for boys and are only played by boys (even though 49% of gamers are actually women).
Of course, your world is quite heavily controlled so it's completely logical that sexism would be coded out of them but I still had an epic pffft moment, but I've heard and read a lot about it so that's probably me.

Yeah, OK. I'll mention the towers earlier. The organism thing, as I was saying to you, I only just figured out in this chapter - previously, I had them all hygiene conscious, but I had no idea why. I just like the idea of tormenting Trylem a little more - making the queenie even harder for him to get his hands on :P.
I'm pretty sure geeks will never read this book, but OK. I'll make sure I call the sword a lightsaber.
And do you know, you're right about gaming culture, but I have a feeling there is a new culture developing in today's society, only because I've worked for several IT companies populated by guys who were pretty fond of gaming, and some of the online stuff they played (WoW and all that stuff) seemed to have a lot of women involved. They were also always inviting me to join them, although I never did.
But anyway, whether girls are currently part of the geek gaming culture or not, I want them to be part of it in my new society. Once it is recognised that certain people are geeks, then my thought is that they are basically medicated and educated so that all non-geek-related stuff is completely snuffed out of them. Gaming is all. Gender is irrelevant. Moreover, because that society is very heavily into physical pleasure, you've got to have female gaming geeks, because otherwise how would heterosexual male geeks ever get their satisfaction? Yes, physical encounters would be few and far between, but nonetheless it is expected that every male (geeks aren't sexist, but the society certainly still is) does have the opportunity to engage in the odd awkward fumble. And since you have to stay within your genotype, geek gaming females are required.
Oh we are already definitely a part of gaming/geek culture already (49% :D)--there is just a lot of [censored] you have to put up with as a woman engaging in it, though you are right in that change is slowly being made. But like I said anyway, I do think it is logical enough in your world that sexism could and would be wiped out.
No room for angsty macho male gaming geeks in my society.[strike]Tony Abbott[/strike] The government of the day wouldn't stand for it - everyone in their place.
Hey, Abbott wants us all in our place too--it just happens that us womenfolk belong in kitchens is all.
Woah O_O Massive word count. Amazing job pumping those words out.
All just drivel, though. [act]waves hand[/act] Much cutting later.
Anyway, 50k and more importantly an expanded plot outline so I kind of know where this thing is going now. Most of the extra 1000 words was retrofitting some earlier stuff, but that's OK.
Write more. Need to get to the hugs already.
About 1000 words yesterday and about 3500 today, bringing me up to just under 54500. No hugs.
Your daily word counts are amazing! What's your secret?
