I believe the inconsistency that you have pointed out is deliberate - kind of like an old wive's tale that has been distorted by those who partook and by those who have seen it happen.
So, I'm not entirely sure that counts as a 'true error'?
I remember from when I was compiling lists of all the character descriptions that Dameon's eyes went from being 'milky' to looking visibly normal in later books.

There is thread that has a lot of the inconsistancies, I will bump it. I have a pretty comprehensive list happening somewhere.
