I'm voting Seresh but it's still not something I'd say I'm very positive about.
I may still be half convinced Salamander is actually just a whole bunch of actual salamanders wiggling about in human clothes!
I think Seresh may win this vote, I think it is definately implied... I also think it's going to be funny when we all have our hearts set on all of these theories and when the book comes out there is going to be so many of us having a meltdown because they weren't correct :,)
Yeah. Or if it is someone unexpected altogether- I actually think this will be the most likely outcome, as Isobelle will have put all the clues leading to who it is together in a way that we won't be able to realise until we read the last book. [act]looks at countdown for the Red Queen coming out and hopes pointlessly that time will speed up[/act]
I really want it to be Henry Druid, but I doubt it is any more. Saresh is highly likely. Either way, I want to know what really happened to the Druid, and Erin, a little more than I want to know who Salamander is.
other: I think it will be Jacoby's sister. I know we don't know much about her but it all makes sense...The salamander goes unnoticed (perhaps because"he" is female), has knowledge of boats and they find female clothing in the Island where Ruston was held.
I have been thinking this for a while and just wanted to share :)
Elara - the Saresh option in the poll is Jakoby's sister :)
Hermione - the thing that got me thinking that it was the Druid was that Salamander sometimes had a beautiful woman speak for him, who I assumed was Erin. This was adjusted in later editions to a beautiful *dark-haired* woman, which gives more weight to the Jakoby's sister theory, assuming that Ariel is there to coerce away her disfigurement (I'm assuming that's one of the reasons she puts up with him, because he can stop people from seeing her mutation).
I kind of want it to be Ariel, but I don't think he'd have the commitment into building up a proper trade. he'd much rather insinuate himself into systems (like council and herders) and use them then leave them.
Hermione I do agree that it will probably be someone we don't expect. I do hope it's someone that makes sense, though.
Isobelle said on twitter that she doesn't dare read the theory boards here, but she might when it's out, to see our reactions.
Yay, so many for team Seresh! The other couple of clues that I picked up were a) she and Jakoby used to go sailing together even when they were little so she clearly knows about boats and b) Jakoby said she always loved beautiful things (hence the clothing in Ariel's residence). I hadn't thought before about Ariel coercing away her disfigurement, but that would probably appeal to her too. But what if she had to deal with naturally mindshielded people? I also can't marry Seresh's hatred of her being forced into the temple, with a slavemaster who takes away the freedom of so many others...that is the only way it doesn't fit together in my mind.
Hmm, dark-haired? Well we've had character's effectively black-facing so I don't see any reason why Erin couldn't by dying her hair.
Not that I think Salamander will be Erin . . . But I still expect her and the Druid to show up at some point.
