So... my progress so far towards my 5000 word goal is: I opened this thread.
Well, I guess that counts as progress :P
Managed 50 words on the train today. Mainly because I was feeling the peer pressure - who says it's always a bad thing?
Also I couldn't get the counter to work (or I got it to work 5 times, we'll see when I submit this comment).
Only 4,950 words to go! Yay!
Woo! Peer pressure ftw! *waves cattleprod about in triumph*
Nice start! You should come to our next write-in, if you can, so we can all peer pressure each other into writing by seeing who can type the fastest. Or handwrite the fastest, in the case of Deb.
Write-ins sound good, I need the added motivation.
Went for a walk to 'clear my head' before writing on Monday. Two hours, a police encounter, and an exhausted dog later and I just wanted to curl up in bed. It seems I am such a master of procrastination that the universe conspires to keep me from writing.

Procrastination is a very useful tool in certain circumstances. Writing is not one of those. *prods*
*further prodding* Long time no update
I have the plague. I can play hooky when I have the plague?
I was talking to a friend yesterday about how I've been struggling with writing, and she was really shocked. She said 'you used to smash out the writing' and she thought I'd just been continuing to amass notebooks quietly in the background this whole time. It made me pretty sad to have someone else recognise how much my writing has slowed down and fallen by the wayside. It makes me more determined to get back into it, and while I don't know if I will make my goal this year the passion is definitely there.
I've gotten a section of my boring letter out of the way, and even that is helping me get used to writing again. Plus, it's good to remember to keep in touch with people even if the postage costs have just skyrocketed.
Nw that I've leaked my emotion everywhere I'd better get a move on and finish this thing so I can choose a project to work on. Thanks for listening.
The problem with RL is that it can consume you. I used to be reasonably prolific but now haven't written in about 18 months. So I get it. *grugs* Glad you're motivated again :).
Ah yes, this! I used to be super productive when I was still in highschool. I would handwrite chapters a day--which was at the time about 5-6k of words, and now I am lucky to type a couple thousand :P But such is life!
*waves cattleprod* GO GO GO
Are we sure we're not counting other things? I mean I'm just editing a 2000+ word letter I've written (actually not as boring as I made out earlier)....
No? Well, I've been given a challenge of 'Mermaids' to write into a story to cheer up a friend so if I get stuck I may be hitting people up for plotting help soonish.
*prod prod prod* words words words
I'm trying! I think I might have figured out a vague plot, the mermaid thing is killing me. I tried tweaking it to sci-fi, but while the idea was good I wasn't grabbing hold of the characters or voice.
Is there going to to be a write-in around Melbourne any time? I might need some extra kicking up the butt for this.
We actually have one coming up this weekend. They are usually run once a month at the start of the month :)
Excellent! Depending on the day/time I may be able to come. How do I find out details?
Double post... but I think I might have worked through my mermaid block. I have words, and they are not many, but they are a start.
"***** mermaids!"
The curse came from the far end of the dock and I drifted closer, part of a small crowd which had been drawn by the commotion. A fishing trawler had been winched up level with the decking, and water was still gushing from a jagged hole in the side.
