"What has four legs, two legs, and three legs, and the more legs it has the weaker it is?"
there's another version of the same riddle
"Which animal walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three in the evening?"
can you guess?
because i'm bored i'll put another one aswell

More evil than the devil,
The poor have it,
The rich need it,
And if you eat it, you'll die?

KSL
yes
what about
Four jolly men sat down to play;
And played all night till break of day;
They played for money and not for fun,
With separate scores for every one.
Yet when they came to square accounts,
They all had made quite fair amounts!
Can you the paradox explain?
If no one lost, how could all gain?
hmm.. i'll have a think about that one.
Here's an easy one:
What has roots as nobody sees, Is taller than trees, Up, up it goes, And yet never grows?
This one's easy if you think about it:
"Think of words ending in -GRY. Angry and hungry are two of them. There are only three words in the English language. What is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have listened carefully, I have already told you what it is."
The answer to Dark One's first riddle is mountains [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/> but the second one - language doesn't end in GRY?! ...or does it...?!
gosh, i have no idea...
And I'm confused! Language?! eh?
Maeve: The men weren't playing cards or something- they were playing music... [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/huh.gif" alt="???" border="0"/> maybe...
Hehe... Read the riddle VERY VERY carefully. It's a trick!
KSL
ah- 'The English Language'
And Language is the third word [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/wink.gif" alt=";)" border="0"/> Nice one, Kayt
that's really clever- the languge riddle- i was racking my brain for the answer.
about the jolly men riddle, arien you were right they weren't gamblers but musicians getting paid for performing
i love the Hobbit riddles and i know they are well known but i'll put my favourite ones down anyway:
Thirty white horses on a red hill,
First they champ,
Then they stamp,
Then they stand still.
and
Alive without breath,
As cold as death;
Never thirsty, ever drinking,
All in mail never clinking

The second one is Fish, isn't it.... and the first....damnit, i can't remember it... [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>
The first one is teeth... [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif" alt=":)" border="0"/>
i knew they would be guessed.
does anyone know the answer to the hatter's riddle from Aice and Wonderland?
Why is a raven like a writing desk?
there isn't actually an official answer but i found out some possible ones.
Well Done! I didn't expect anyone to get the language one so quickly!
The raven answer is "They both produce a few notes, all very flat, and are almost never turned the wrong way front", i think. Aparently Lewis Carol gave that as his solution to it.
How about these then?
easy
If a rooster laid a brown egg and a white egg, what kind of chicks would hatch?
difficult
Before the days of motor cars, a man rode into town on his horse. He arrived on Friday, spent three days in town and left on Friday. How is that possible?
What kind of rooster lays eggs? You really have to worry about the priorities of modern geneticists these days.
His horse was named Friday.
-What occurs once in every minute, twice in every moment, yet never in a thousand years?
-What flies when it's born, lies when it alive, and runs when it's dead?
-I cannot be felt, seen or touched;
Yet I can be found in everybody;
My existence is always in debate;
Yet I have my own style of music.
What Am I?

Hmm... you got those far too quickly! Well done though!

The letter "m."

a soul
How about this one:
Scenario: A pond 1m diameter. In the centre of the pond there is a lily pad 10cm in diameter and dead at the centre of the lily pad is a frog.
Question: Approximately how many jumps will it take the frog to get from the lilypad to the edge of the pond and how long (in cm) will each jump be?
you're right that is Lewis Carroll's response to the Hatter's riddle
also two other possible answers:
1. Because the notes for which they are noted are not noted for being musical notes.
2. Because Poe wrote on both.
i have no idea about the frog riddle
anyway i'll post another
There is a man looking at someone's picture and says:
Brothers and Sisters I have none,
but this man's father is my father's son.
Whose picture is the man looking at?
this mans father = my father's son
substitute son as the answer
(your son)'s father = my father's son
since my son's father is me
me = my father's son
and my father's son is me (or my brother)
me = me
Hang on...
the frog is DEAD at the centre of the lily-pad. So it can't jump anywhere.
Cos it's dead.
