Well, you're certainly enthusiastic. I wouldn't say it's the best book I've ever read, but it was certainly a very clever, enjoyable book. :)
Very much enjoyed it. A very crisp writing style, a likeable and gutsy heroine, brilliant dystopian setting and a sequel to come.

*digs up old thread* I just received the trilogy as a birthday pressie & could have sworn that recently someone had mentioned reading this book. I guess I'm being a little bit cheeky and seeking other opinions on this series before I read ^.^;
I thought it was good. The main character is relateable and the story is really well told. Don't read one unless you're ready to sit down and read all three. Seriously. I stayed up reading this series every night for a week when I should have been doing assignments.
Some people said that the third book is boring, but I really enjoyed the character thinking about what was happening and how she felt about that.
I love this series, and I'm reading Mockingjay right now. I agree with Nef, the books are addictive and I read the first 2 books in 2 days (and I'm typically a slow reader). I must have the series on the brain, too, because I had a dream last night I was in the Hunger Games XD
I'd definitely recommend them!

Hahaha I started reading them this morning & I admit I'm a little bit hooked ^.^; It's been a while since I've been so engrossed with a completely new series.
I admit, I was a little skeptical of it being aimed at younger kids and splashed on front is an endorsement by our favourite vampire author. But I find it an intriguing premise & only wish I wasn't at work atm :p so I could continue reading :)

I have read all three of these books, and enjoyed them greatly :) I didn't know whether they would be my sort of thing, but I certainly liked how Susanne finished the last book :)
First Book; Amazing
Second Book; Good
Third Book; a disappointment compared to the rest, it reads like a draft, rather than a finished novel. Also; the ending would have made more sense to me if;
Gale had died instead of Finnick, because then there would have been a kind of rationalising for Katniss's final choice of Peeta; which made no sense after he KEPT TRYING TO KILL HER! And after all of her dallying with Gale.
I started reading the first book of this series today and I'm really loving it. So addictive and just beautifully written. :)
It is addictive, I must admit.
Yesterday I found a board game version of The Hunger Games and was incredibly tempted to buy!!
OMG... A board game would be awesome. :) I finished the first book and absolutely loved it. (L) I liked how it left you hanging so you have to find out what happens next. :)

I actually bought Number one AGES ago at the recommendation of a book shop worker. she bounced about it. i bought it. Number two was not out yet. i got over it. Read number two. Number three was not out yet. HOW ON EARTH DID I NOT DIE FROM THE SUSPENSE?! WHY END A BOOK WITH "katniss district 12 is gooooone" and then not give me the 3RD book!!!!
SO on the day Mocking Jay came out. i begged my mother for it. sick of my whining voice she gave me the money. Best thing i ever bought.

I finally finished Mockingjay, and I found the ending to be bittersweet.
I understand why Katniss chose Peeta, and although I favored Gale, I think Peeta was better for her. I think they needed each other to have some semblance of happiness in their lives.
I'm really upset Finnick died, I really, really liked his character. Oh well, I guess his last weeks or months were happy, and I like to think he knew Annie was pregnant. I wish he could have died less painfully.
I'm also really upset Prim died. I most certainly was not expecting that!! I thought Gale would probably die, but never did it cross my mind that it would be Prim!! I'm glad Katniss killed Coin.
I also like how the author made it so that, like Katniss, the reader really wasn't sure 1. who Boggs was warning Katniss not to trust, etc. 2. who really engineered the final explosion of the children & Prim
I also kind of wish we had learned more about the red-haired Avox, Lavinia, like why she originally ran and who was with her. Maybe Collins will write a book about her in the future (although I doubt it) I also wish I knew where Johanna ended up, she was an interesting character.
Apparently, they're making a movie. Hopefully, since Collins is writing the screenplay, it will be somewhat true to the books.

[Edit]: I heard that the movie rights were sold in 2009 and that the film will reach cinemas in 2013. But there is a lot of speculation so this might not be right

Does anyone else feel there's something a little wrong about making a movie of Hunger Games? I mean, it's about the horror of people watching children kill one another on television for entertainment. Extreme violence and pathos for a society too desensitised to realise how sickening the whole thing is. Sure, this is a fictional story and the movie isn't real, but the fact that it's being made does suggest that the subtext in the book concerning our need for extreme violence and drama in our entertainment is valid.

I'm halfway through the second book at the moment, and despite being a little skeptical as to whether I'd like them, I still bought all three at once. I'm glad now because I have the next one on hand! I've got to stop doing things like that though, because sometimes it really does backfire on me [act]cough[/act]Eragon[act]cough[/act]
Anyway, like everyone else, I was completely drawn in by these books, but every time I stop reading and go to do something else, I kind of resist going back to reading. When I finished the first book, I was left feeling so desolate and hopeless that I couldn't sleep. I like it when books have the power to feel something strongly, even if it is a negative emotion sometimes, but I dislike feeling so uneasy.
I agree with you, Lol, about making The Hunger Games into a movie. I know the movie could include talkover type things by Katniss, but I always find books written in first person which are transformed into movies lose a lot of the character reflection which makes the whole thing seem rather shallow. And making the Hunger Games any less deep would make the whole thing seem like a disgusting bloodbath. It reminds me of something Wanderer said when Avatar came out about how, despite the fact that a movie is about looking for an end to violence, we apparently seem to enjoy violence on the big screen and it's a rather massive contradiction.

I read Mockingjay today and I really enjoyed it. Well, maybe saying I enjoyed it is a little weird - I thought it was a good book. It was awful when Katniss realised that the rebels (well, Coin, not the rebels as a whole) were just as manipulative and inclined towards using her in their games as the Capitol was. It made the whole rebellion seem hopeless because one corrupt and oppressive government was just going to be replaced by another. I can't believe that Katniss voted yes when the victors were asked whether there should be one last Hunger Games, this time involving children from the Capitol. It just makes it look like one government had been replaced by another just as bad, and the only thing that had changed was the people who suffer at its hands. I understand that Prim's death was awful for Katniss, but being a healer, Prim would definitely not have wanted others to suffer in some weird revenge.
I was glad when Katniss finally chose Peeta, especially as I never liked Gale.
I found it contradictory that after the rebellion, despite everything he'd done, Snow was imprisoned in relative comfort whilst before back in District 13, Katniss's prep team were imprisoned in such horrible conditions. The new government was already setting double standards - this is how we act in the Capitol, but this is how it is in the Districts.
I'm still waiting for book two. :( So glad that it is December's bookclub title.
I can't wait for the movie! I bet I'll get really exited about it and then watch it and complain about itn for ages, even though it wasn't that bad.
It's so sad! I can't believe Prim died! And Finnick, just after he got married!
I think Mockingjay was darker than her other books, and even though it was awesome and I loved it, I think Susanne Collins tried to squeeze as much as she could in the last book. That's what I hate about trilogies, everything is compacted into the last book.
