The 'de' in 'de Grout' is French for 'of'. So in this instance your character's name would literally translate to (first name) of Grout. Therefore if you were starting a sentence you would capitalise the 'de' because that would be the same as starting a sentence "Of Grout looked out his window..." and therefore would be grammatically acceptable, even if it is a name.
So I was going to submit something into this writing competition I heard about. I briefly read through the guidelines and it stated that there was a 2000 word limit for written submissions.
Therefore, I wrote a 500 word piece and went back to see what was involved with submitting it.
I then saw that it said: 2000 word limit for written works and 250 word limit for flash fiction.
Slightly annoyed with myself for not reading it properly the first, I tried to find a definition for flash fiction but I'm still not sure if what I wrote is flash fiction or just writing.
Could someone explain what exactly constitutes as flash fiction?
Flash fiction is just very short very brief pieces of writing, hence the 250 word limit--though I've seen flash fiction with word counts as high as 1000+ words, so honestly it varies depending on who's producing it.
Hmm... I figured it meant short pieces of writing. The thing that confused me was why it also said that there was a 2000 word limit for writing as well. Unless it was referring to non-fiction writing.
Hi all how are you, I'm looking for a little guidance, not so much on something that I'm writing but on guidelines for what I'd be able to post. I'm not totally positive it would be appropriate to post on this site but I don't want to dismiss posting it here altogether either. If someone would be willing to answer a few questions please either comment below or PM me at their earliest convenience. Thanks for any help and sorry for any inconvenience.
Sionainn, Thank you for the link,I went through the that and was still unsure,

And both of you thanks for responding so quickly.
Hi,
Sorry if this is the wrong section, but with regards to the meet-ups/write-ins, ow do they work and how one can participate in them?
Not sure sorry- I'm in SA so I've never been. Hopefully someone else knows.
