mini series sounds good.... but to fit in all 5 books once the sending is out its going to a rathe long miniseries... * sigh* pipe dreams are fun tho....
As far as the sound track goes theres this silly hairbrain idea that Danny Elfman should be involved... and what the heck is the name of the guy who did the soundtrack for labyrinth?.... i have issues wit peter jackson......
You could have a mini-series per book?
Brydie I reckon if the right person did it, a modern soundtrack would pose well - but it might also take away the feeling of 'this is another time and place where rock doesn't exist' feeling. Like wanderer mentioned - Highlander's soundtrack (Queen) was AWESOME, but it's because they're timeless. Ladyhawke's soundtrack was abyssmal, and made what could have been a really good movie into something laughable. If you insert songs that you think would suit it now, it may not necessarily suit the movie in the future, so you're essentially putting a timeline of relevance on the movie.
The reason Star Wars for instance is so timeless is because the music is recognisable - but not chronologically definable. When I hear it, it makes me think that this could have happened any time.
As much as I love R & J and the soundtrack - and I do love it! - it makes me think of 1996.
I reckon the Cranberries make it a bit upbeat and keep the band going hey!

Ladyhawk, oh dear god, that music ruined that movie for me. Now, i know it was very camp anyway, but i had some appeal... it was just every time that music would start up, my fingers would flinch and change the channel...
But i think that modern music could work. I haven't seen Highlander, but i think there is some merit to the idea.... A Knight's Tale used modern music, and while it wasn't the most effective, it was okay... but i think Obernewtyn is a liiiiittle bit more serious than Knight's Tale.... (then again, if we could get Heath to play Matthew.... [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>)
Mind you, i would love some pipe music. I always thought something akin to Braveheart would work..... but then again, i have always had a thing for bagpipes....
LOL, Wanderer!
*chinks champagne glass*
Who was the composer for Moulin Rouge? He would be able to come up with some really original, post-apocalyptic sounds - suitable, different, ground breaking...Craig Armstrong? Name is ringing a bell for some reason.
Ah, he and Baz must have some sort of agreement.
He would be fantastic - the underscore for R&J (the 2nd CD released of the soundtrack) was sublime - he's using a fantastic amount of impressionism to create moods that suit the movies he's composed for down to a tea.
The end credit music for Moulin Rouge is a great example - to me it just sums up the movie entirely. *shivers*

Geez Wanderer, are you feeling okay? You're not supposed to agree with me... {insert twilight zone music here}
And i did love the R+J soundtrack as well as Moulin Rogue. And yes Min, the Bolero(sp?) piece at the credits was brill. I just love it, the solitary piano at the end building up to this chaotic mournful almost carnival tune, it was excellent. The first time i saw it, i stayed to the end just to simply hear the music.
there's something about pianos playing in the higher keys solo... very effective.
But we have to work bagpipes in there somewhere... i mean, they are supposed to be in Scotland, aren't they? (I know, i have issues, i'm half Scot, alright [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/> I was raised on bagpipes.... which was kind of uncomfortable when you think about it.... might account for a few growth issues...)
Yeap of course Flit [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif" alt=":)" border="0"/> I didn't mean use those pieces themselves, I just meant utilise the composer's talent for making beautiful, impressionistic music.
I know who should compose something for it.
Marty O'Donnell ! he is the music composer for Bungie Studios (so music on Halo and Halo 2 are done by him)

That game is so weird... I loved playing it the whole spin on Wonderland was really qwerty
I cant really decide about who should do the soundtrack, since Ober chrons is still a sett of books.
Soundtracks to a book, eh?
That's down right wacky!!!
KSL
I'm intrigued by this notion of creating a soundtrack for a book. Imagine hearing a great song on the radio followed by "Now read the book..."

While I was reading the books I often listen to music and the main album that seam to fit as something for Obernewtyn Cronicles was Weathered by Creed (now disbanded)

i get distracted easily, so if i play music i want to sing. And then I don't finish what I was reading. [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif" alt=":P" border="0"/>

Yes indeedy! [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif" alt=":)" border="0"/>
I don't think that's a hairbrained idea at all, actually. [img]http://s3.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif" alt=":)" border="0"/>
The music that Danny Elfman composed for the fantasy video game "Fable" was quite effective and had a nice, languid pastoral vibe to it. If that's anything to go buy he'd be a fine choice for an "Obernewtyn" movie / mini-series.
The man who did the instrumental underscore for "Labyrinth" is Trevor Jones.
Trevor Jones has three other fine fantasy scores to his name:
"The Dark Crystal"
"Excalibur"
and
"Merlin"
He was also responsible for 50% of the music for "Last Of The Mohicans" - another excellent soundtrack.
You have very good taste. He'd be another excellent choice.

I thought Peter Jackson worked wonders with "Lord Of The Rings", but then again I haven't read all of Tolkien's middle earth books... maybe I would take exception to some of his choices in adapting them if I was more familiar with the source material. My opinion of "Lord Of The Rings" might also be affected by the fact that it seemed so good next to the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy which came out around the same time.
I guess the problem I have with Peter Jackson directing another big budget fantasy series is it seems "too obvious" a follow up to "Lord Of The Rings"... I'd like to see him stretch himself as an artist and try new things.... certainly I await his upcoming remake of "King Kong" with baited breath. As a fan of the original film, I'm preying that he doesn't screw it up...
Yeah Trevor Jones! had a mind blank.... My fave two films are The Nightmare before christmas and Labyrinth.... i have the soundtrack for both and i love everything on them including the instrumental stuf ( i just sing to the songs wit lyrics) and i think its mysterious evough wit out being epic likep peter jackson arraaagghh then again i cant stand lord of the rings, much better as a book but im not the worlds hugest sci person, im kinda picky lol.....
Moder stuf would be good tho it would have to be stuff that was not pinable on a timeframe. I have the perfect song for Ariel - The Package by A perfect circle..... so very ariel....
The Package
by A Perfect Circle
clever got me this far
then tricky got me in
i am what i'm after
i don't need another friend.
smile and drop the cliche
till you think i'm listening
take just what i came for
then i'm out the door again.
peripheral on the package
don't care to settle in
time to feed the monster
i don't need another friend
comfort is a mystery
crawling out of my own skin
just give me what i came and
i'm out the door again
lying- to get what i came for
lying- to get just what i need
lying- to get what i crave
lying- smile to get what's mine.
i am what i'm after
i don't need another friend
nod and watch your lips move
if you need me to pretend
because clever got me this far
then tricky got me in
i'll take just what i came for
then i'm out the door again.
lying- to get what i came for
lying- to get what i need now
lying- to get what i'm craving
lying- smile to get what's mine.
come and lets see me
mine, mine, mine.
take what's mine.
mine, mine, mine.
take what's mine.
mine, mine, mine.
lying- to get what i came for
lying- to get just what i need now
lying- to get what i crave
lying- to smile and get what's mine.
come and shoot me.
take what's mine.
mine, mine, mine.
take what's mine.
give this to me.
take what's mine.
take what's mine.
mine.
take what's mine.
take what's mine.
take what's mine.
this is mine.
mine.
all mine.
what u reckon?
