Nef that's BRILLIANT! It was really engaging and really amusing and you caught my attention expertly entirely in spite of the fact that the only books of her's that I ever read were various faraway trees. I was never all that into them. At one stage all I read were faraways and puzzle adventures , but that was because I'd just changed schools and the new library was really intimidating and those were the only two sets of books I knew how to find. Then we started getting scholastic catalogues and well...let's just say my book shelf didn't thank me for what followed. It's currently stacked two books deep and doesn't hold all my books. I now have another bookshelf and about half of what was on it in primary school currently resides in my brother's bedroom.
So well done on captivating the attention of a reader who can barely remember anything the woman ever wrote. The one problem; I'm so interested, I'm considering reading Malorie Towers just so as to see what you're talking about.
next up is an overview of the whole series, then the books individually ... at the moment I have about 40 Blyton books, and my collection is growing ...

I concur! That was really engaging, Nef. I've never read anything of yours before, but I really like your writing style. There was one sentence that I wasn't sure about:
That woman was a master programmer – she not only wrote books, but maintained newsletters for these groups, as well other periodicals and so on - just supported her agenda.
Should it be "just to support her agenda"? I don't really know.
Thanks - you're right about that sentence - I changed it about 10 times and got so sick of it I stopped loking at it.
Blytonians aren't quite sure how many books she wrote, but it was apparently up around the 800+ mark ... I have a long way to go!

Might good stuff nef. I second trixie beldon, had the full series growing up. If you can get hold of any Cherry Ames books they would be worth deconstruction.

*dpm* Here's the opening to a short story I'm working on:
The princes were coming to see Emily (Princess Penny today even though she knew that Penny was my favourite name and I wanted to be Penny, but she took the name anyway). That was because she was the prettiest of us three and that meant that she got to be boss and say what happened. Emily had blonde hair, so that must be prettier but I’ve never really thought about who was the prettiest and why being prettiest let you be boss. She always wanted to be Glenda when we were playing the Wizard of Oz, but she always wanted to be Dorothy too, which was stupid because you couldn’t be two people at once. But today we were playing princesses because Emily was boss of the game and we had to do what she said.
Today I was the second prettiest and I was called princess Cimorene, like that princess the princess from the book I’m reading who gets to be friends with dragons and fight people. She liked to learn boys stuff like building fences and magic and didn’t really want to be a princess. Emily thought it was a silly name and said that Cimorene didn’t sound like a proper princess, but she was still reading little kids books with more pictures than words so she only knew what princesses looked like, not what they did. I was allowed to borrow books from the big kids section because I could read big words and long stories.
We sat on our thrones in the upturned roots of a chopped down tree and waited for the princes to come. April didn’t have to sit with us. Emily said that she was the third prettiest and so she had to be the servant to us other princesses. April got to make mud stew, Emily was the only one who could see what the princes were doing, and I sat on a tree root and flicked away sugar ants that crawled near me. I didn't like ants.
