Gilbert: [act]to nobody in particular[/act] You know, if it wasn’t for this weird force that keeps me from moving a certain distance away from the girl, I could totally go find the Bar while she’s in this state.
Edward: FYI, she may be in 8-|state right now, but she can still understand you, and she is not happy to hear you say that.
Gilbert: Wait, how would you know that?
Edward: ...Dammit. [act]sighs[/act] Now I have to dazzle you so you forget about the awkward questions this raises. [act]prepares to gaze soulfully and smoulderingly into Gilbert’s eyes[/act]
Gilbert: ...You’re going to do what now?
[act]Conveniently for Edward and Gilbert, and inconveniently for everyone who wants to see how this will play out, the lights suddenly flicker and die, and the Lounge is hurled into absolute darkness. Guests stumble around, knocking into each other and tripping perilously close to the roped-off area. After only a few minutes, however, the lights come back on and everyone begins to settle down[/act]
Edward: [act]sniffing the air[/act] Hm, someone’s missing.
Deb: [act]looking around[/act] Aw, damn, my date got away! How did he manage to shuffle so far in that bag? I knew I should have shackled his ankles as well.
[act] s*c*p enters the Lounge and trundles over to Deb, quarks quietly in her ear for a moment, hands her a scroll, then leaves[/act]
Deb: Okay, listen up, everyone! I have an announcement. [act]unravels the scroll and reads from it:[/act]
Writing CompetitionThe hostesses’ three mysterious guests have disappeared during a power outage, and it’s up to those left to figure out who the guests are and what has happened to them. Since the Ball began, your hostesses have been dropping hints about the identities of their dates; now is your chance to piece together the clues and figure out which science fiction-related fictional character each hostess had. Along with that, explain—in 400 words or less—what happened to the guests during the blackout, and where they can now be found.
Your guesses don’t necessarily have to be right for you to win. In this time of abandonment, your distraught hostesses are eager to be cheered with humorous and creative entries, so what and how you write is just as important as whether you’re correct.
One entry per member, in 400 words or less. Please PM your entry to Glowworm by 5pm on March 22. Deb: [act]rolls up scroll[/act] As you were. Except me, because my walking paper bag is gone. :(
Edward: There, there. You have me. [act]looks smouldering[/act]
Deb: [act]waving him off[/act] I don’t need you. I have the dream of Swallow to sustain me.
