Oooh, that's good to know! I am aiming to exceed all my totals like a fiend, although you wouldn't know it from my absolute lack of writing today.

Does a page of notes for a story inspired by my viewing of The Hobbit count? Probably not. At least, not until I turn it into an actual story.

Just over one thousand words tonight! Half was on my LorF story and the other half went on my NaNo story. It was so good to be back with Jackie and her assortment of associated characters. Must. Write. Heaps. Tomorrow...

Oops, I almost forgot to add this bit. My LorF story is being written in scenes all over the place. It's the first time I've ever really written in a non-linear fashion and I'm not exactly sure if it's going well. Does anyone have any tips for writing in an anti-linear fashion?

Don't worry. Look at it as a patchwork quilt. You are building scenes and segments, all in different colours, and it is going to get confusing and you probably aren't going to be sure how it all fits together and you will miss little details. But don't worry about it. It's not a problem because the next step is stitching the patches together, and that's when you loosely slot it all in place and then read over it and link it up and iron out the inconsistencies.

It's definitely a different way of doing things, and the process is a little longer and you will find yourself changing bits in scenes to get everything to slot into place, but I write everything this way so it's certainly doable. :)

I'm just going to lump LorF word counts under project 1 for you, Katie. Great work :).

I very rarely write in a non-linear fashion, so can't be of any help there! But I think Shonk's right - just keep writing and once your snippets are starting to merge, read the whole thing and see what's missing. Even when you write linearly, you find later stuff which is inconsistent with earlier, so I don't think non-linear approaches are any worse off [act]shrugs[/act].

Heh, I altered project three after I started the LorF story so I could just call it "5,000 words of another project". I'm definitely feeling the LorF love more than the random murder mystery story love lately.

Thanks for both of your words of advice - it does help a lot. I definitely feel confused and uncertain about where the story's actually going, so it's good to know this is relatively normal!

I actually like the advice you gave too - I have done heaps of separate scenes and finding this non-linear writing somewhat confusing. But it all comes together eventually - that's my hope anyway?

This has taught me a valuable lesson for OberNoWriWin: have more generic goals! I promise next time, I'll just go for a word limit and let the projects sort themselves out. It should be a much easier graph for you in Winter. :D

OK, so I am going to see 2013 out by writing a whole heap on my NaNo story, where almost every character is this close to being sent to the reform school...

UPDATE> 1,030 words and counting! Have rewarded myself with coffee.

12:25am UPDATE> Well, somehow YouTube ate an hour of my evening but I managed to write just over 1,600 words for the night. Hopefully, this has set a good precedent for 2014. Happy new year to you all!

I quite like the multiple goals. Lets you have an extra shiny graph where the various projects battle with each other to reach completion first :D.

Congrats on 1600 words. A nice finish to the year!

Ah the void that is youtube where we spend one too many hours whiling away time when we should be doing something more productive.

Good work, Katie. You still managed to push on and produced words. This does set a good precedent for this new year!

I think I've made a decent start on 2014 with just under 800 words on my NaNo project. However, I keep running into a problem: I haven't actually re-read the story since I started it, which was fine when I was actually doing NaNo and just needed to keep going. Now, though, I think it would be nice to go back and actually remind myself what has already happened. So I'm taking a break from it to go back to the start.

Here is where my goals stand half-way through my OberNoWriSu:

TARGET: 20,000 WORDS - CURRENT: 16,515 WORDS

WRITING PROJECTS
1. NaNo project: 7,482 of 10,000 words - 75%
2. KSP Spec Fic entry: 0 of 3,500 words - 0%
3. LorF story: 8,549 of 5,000 words - 100% (and still going)
4. Audio ficlet: 184 of 1,200 words - 15%
7. Writers Victoria Very Short Story Comp: 300 words- 100%

EXTRA PROJECTS
5. New draft of Postcards: (n/a)
6. Start a YouTube channel about writing. Make two videos for channel: 100%

Hmmm, my spreadsheet is out of whack. I think I've been incorrectly attributing words to Project 1 when they belong to Project 3. Also seem to have missed 800 odd words. Randomly added in and randomly reallocated to make the numbers add up :D.

Nice effort, Katie. You're kicking butt.

I'm pretty sure my goals exist purely to make Darga's life more difficult. That wasn't the intention when I started out!

There are some areas that definitely need work, namely the audio ficlet and the 3,500 word story. Perhaps I should focus on the latter while I'm re-reading what I've written of my NaNo story. I already have the idea and a page of notes, after all.

And yes, I may need to adjust my target to 30,000 words. Hmm...

Alright, then: 30,000 words it is. I was vaguely planning to follow Jossie's example and stop when my holidays are over, but I'll just keep it going until the end of Summer.

I haven't done much writing during the past two days, although I've done a lot of thinking about my stories and have come up with some great stuff to work into my NaNo story. Plus, I posted another video today! This is my first answer video and I chose to respond to Sionainn's prompt about plotting vs. pantsing. It was a lot of fun and I can't wait to get onto some more answer videos soon.

Hahaha, hurray for pronouncing my name correctly. And I see your are still frustrated with evil characters, who I take are still sitting in reform school?

Shame about no words though [act]pulls cattleprod out[/act] but I guess thinking about stories and working some stuff out shall do for now ;)

Good on you, Katie! Increasing the target and continuing past the holidays. I really would love to do the same, but I am skeptical of myself. But perhaps all this routine habit will mean that I can't HELP but keep writing past my end date?

Also video - really interesting! I think many writers would be able to relate to either plotting or pantsing (where on earth did you guys come up with this term? I've never heard of it!). I think I want to be a plotter, but have been pantsing it thus far for OberWri!
