The Keeping Place isn't my favouritte as Matty only appears in dreams, Rushton is kidnapped and Dameon is in Sador most of the time! There are no hot guys left!
lol danni, I can't imagine how i survived reading TKP withut mat & reeds... meh
I need a quote...
"there are too many dead because of my blindness..."
elf, after malik's massacre in TKP
tis not a fantastic quote, but still tis tragic [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/sad.gif" alt=":(" border="0"/>
i can't believe this one hasn't been done yet! it's one of the best/ heart renching bits of the chronicles (in my opinion)
'No!' I screamed and threw my leg over her to slide to the ground. 'I forfeit!'
There was a roaring sound in my ears, and my leg felt oddly numb, but I turned to slide my arms around the mare's bloody neck.
'I am sorry, ElspethInnle. I have failed you,' she sent humbly.
'Never,' i whispered, looking into her eyes. I kissed her soft nose and limped with her back to the pens. I did not look at Malik, who had jumped clear of his horse.
faraf and elspeth in ashling
(and just as emmotional for me as the death of the Tod in the gathering)
*cries* that was sooo sad, that part....poor faraf!
That is a really good quote [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/sad.gif" alt=":(" border="0"/>
It is so sad [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/cry.gif" alt=":'(" border="0"/>
I am going to put this in anyway, even though its from Darkfall:
"You are born with the yearning arrow, my Glynna, though you are not yet fully aware of it. It is not a happy thing to possess, for nothing on earth-no goal, no person how ever beloved-will answer it. It points to the sky and to the heavens and the stars and when it cannot reach them, it must fall back to pierce your heart. Some rare few born with it are destined to tread strange and dangerous paths. For them alone, the arrow may bring understandingâ€ÂÂ.
-- Wind
Because this thread is a little Rushton heavy, and harmony is everything:
...my mouth against the rough linen of his shirt collar. 'Rushton....'
'I know, my dear," Dameon whispered into my hair. "Zaeak told me, but you know he will let nothing keep him from the one he loves so dearly.' -- The Keeping Place
'Elspeth. I have just been thinking of you. Brydda said you were comming. You are tired.' ... He reached out and took my hand, and I gasped to feel the full strength of his gladness, more vivid and lovely than words. -- The Keeping Place (along with that entire scene)
'And perhaps Rushton would be dead,' Dameon said with uncharacteristic bluntness. 'Dear one, don't crush yourself between impossible burdens. It is a conceit of yours, I fear, to see yourself in the centre of things, but it is not true.' -- Keeping Place.
'I...I miss him so,' I said, and I discovered I was weeping.
Dameon gathered me into his long arms. 'My dear girl...Elspeth...I know. I am humbled by your courage in taking charge of all this when he is so myteriously vanished.' --The Keeping Place
I let him pull off my coat and shoes and bundle me into bed. He smoothed the covers over me and kissed my cheek. Dimly I was aware that he retained his sheild between us, and I realised my grief and guilt was probably hurting him. I made an effort to gather myself, and thanked him.
'Sleep', he said, and he withrew from the room. --notice a book-pattern, here?
'...You are not a dream, are you? You won't disappear? Everyone disappears in the end. Matthew and Dragon. Cameo and Domick. ... I always thought I would be the one to leave and instead it is I who am left.' I realised I was sounding hysterical and, with some difficulty, I made myself stop.
'It's all right,' Dameon promised huskily. 'I am here and I will not leave you ever again.' --The Keeping Place. Favourite. Quote. Ever.
Dameon laid his hand on my cheek and I saw that his eyes were wet, though whether it were from my own empathized grief or his own, I did not know.
'I have heard it said more than once that you are a woman ruled by her mind to the detriment of her passions, Elspeth. But those who say so do not know you,' he murmered. -- The Keeping Place.
Or, simply:
'Elspeth,' he said. A world of gentle loving in that one word.
"Sharna" I wept bitterly, "why is life so full of pain and hurting? There seems no end to it. When are the moments of happiness to come?"
"It would take a truer wisdom than mine to answer that," he answered...
..."then teach me to be wise, for I cannot bear this pain" (p167 Obernewtyn)
*bawls out crying*
It's just......so......beautiful!!!

Right on!!
Fight the system!!
I know! That was a tear jerker when I first read it.
Just a question: I was reading through this entire thread and came upon one of Miska's quotes which I have never understood.
Rushton
"You don't know what an irony it would be if you betrayed me" Obernewtyn
Anyone care to enlighten me?
I know it has already been said but it my favorite quote not just in the ober books but my favorite quote i have ever heard
Funaga do something that beasts would never do, funaga eat freedom.
I was almost crying when i read this. It just seemed to say so completely what i was trying to say to everyone else. I'm vegetarian and i'm always asked (in a condescending way) why i don't eat meat or drink milk (i do eat eggs but that is something i would like to stop one day too) when i read the quote i had had a terrible day with someone going at me day about me being vegetarian. As i read it i almost broke down in tears i just sat there reading it over and over. Its strange when something you feel is just put so perfectly into words. I get the chills whenever i think if it.
Some ones from Ashling:
"I'm strong!" Miryum cried in an agonised voice. "I'm strong!"
For one dreadful moment, I thought she was going to jump.
"And what are we?" Dameon asked, his voice threaded with sadness. "Warriors? Misfits? That is part of our trouble. We do not know what we are, and so we are constantly reacting to things, rather than taking the initiative."
I wondered, then, if Maruman had meant that I woul not be able to return to Obernewtyn because I would be dead.
"I will pay the price whatever it is," I whispered.
"But what if your life is not the price," a voice whispered back. "What if the life of your friends is the price you must pay. What if Obernewtyn is the price?"
"do as you wish and you, shall do my bidding," he said with an angelic smile. "and when you have served my purpose, i shall kill you."
-Ariel, Ashling
Good old Ashling, so many quotes [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/cool.gif" alt="8-)" border="0"/>
"You are a strange girl. My first impression of you was, I fear the right one."
Rushton to Elspeth obernewtyn
Ok anyone wat does that mean?
I am pretty sure that when Rushton first saw Elspeth, he probably thought she was different or important to him in some way. Am not really sure though [img]http://s4.images.proboards.com/undecided.gif" alt=":-/" border="0"/>
"Don't! Don't dare"
-Dragon, Ashling
i thought rushton meant that his impression of elf was that of because of the way he felt about her, he couldnt help but help save her, no matter what he would be risking
I love the first time Elspeth and Swallow meet in Ashling. It was so sudden and flirty. I can remember reading it at work in my lunch break and having the biggest smile on my face.
~
Suddenly he reached forward, grasped my arm in a powerful grip and propelled me behind the stall and down a side street. A few paces down the street, he thrust me into a shadowy doorway and pressed himself against me; I panicked and struggled.
"For Lud's sake and mine, girl, be still," he said in a hard urgent voice.
"Let me go!" I cried.
"Shut up," he hissed.
"Shut up yourself!"
~
"It would be polite for you to give your name to your rescuer," he said.
I glared at him. "I didn't need rescuing!"
"No? Then you wanted to be whipped? I apologise for intervening, but there are gentler pleasures."
~
I mean... 'gentler pleasures'? *fans self* I will admit that Rushton is my soft spot when reading these books but Swallow has always been something nice on the side.

"Well, well, so they have sent a kitten that snarls and spits."
