I had no idea this was back on until last weekend. I'm now all caught up ( new house = new internet = 30x more download Yayness! :) ) and I'm really liking this new season.
Episode 6
First of all, its fantastic to see Jenny again! Hope she makes another reappearance..
So, it looks like Ethan might have been a serial killer in Russia in 1902, but the photo's he was holding look more recent. I'd say 70's judging by the clothes in the pics. I think we'll find out a bit more next week, though I wonder if we're going to find out how the anomalies were created by the end of the next season?
Matt has an interesting past! He's known about the anomalies all of his life, and the old guy (which has turned out to be his father) knows about Ethan and some catastrophy that is yet to come (which could be what destroyed the future world that Helen visited last season). In a flashback he seemed to be looking at a primeval world. My suggestion above still stands.
Next week is the last episode for this season and Danny returns!!!
Same ep;
YAY Jenny! That was awesome. Her reaction to seeing them again was brilliant.
I agree DO, the first thing I thought with those photos Ethan has was sort of...Life on Mars :P (so yeah, 70's). So Ethan...perhaps...couldn't help his brother in the 70's, fell back in time somehow, made a life for himself (killing people) in the past, continued time jumping and is now back to get...well, revenge on someone for not being able to save his brother? Is his brother someone we know? Or someone who died as a result of the anomalies...so, he's after ARC for not helping/saving him (not that ARC was around then or anything but...you know, psychopath, he'll blame anyone, right)? I've soooo got no idea how his story fits in ~:|
I have to ask, too - is anyone else suspicious of Emily? She's always running off, and she says she wants to help...but I dunno, there's something about her sneakiness. Like, they know what Matt is (+ dad was) up to, and she's there to distract him. I wondered last week why Ethan didn't kill her, and it was perhaps to play more games with them. Ethan seems to be one step ahead of them all the time, and to me Emily is a part of that.
When Matt's father was in his dream, I was thinking future. Post-apocalyptic! But still future. Actually be to 100% truthful, the first thing I thought was that they were from Venus :P
WHAT? We're up to the LAST EPISODE already?! T_T

still on same ep
Here's a thought: Maybe Matt is Ethan's brother, but doesn't recognise him? Hmm, a bit thin, but possible?!
I wasn't suspicous of Emily until you pointed all that out! I shall be watching the last ep very closely.
It's the last ep for now, but I think Season 5 will be shown on Watch later this year (I guess we'll get confirmation next week...)
It was great!!
I'm a bit miffed that my Emily theory wasn't true though :P and throughout the episode there were so many little moments where I jumped up and went "SEE?! It's HER all along!" but no...not to be :P
It was interesting that Phillip's name being on the documents was interesting - but I find it odd that they gave us so much information in the episode. Unless in the first episode of season 5, they denounce him. Otherwise...there's no more mystery, you know? Obviously there's more to it than just knowing he's behind it, but knowing it's him and not Ethan (Patrick) will make for an interesting story-arc...
And - DO are you getting entirely frustrated with the Conner/Abby relationship? As in, not being able to figure out if they're together or actually don't like one another? Half the time when Abby's there it looks like she can't stand to be in the same room...it's very odd considering they got together, spent a year relying on each other thinking they were never getting home, etc.
Can't wait for next season, though! So glad this show's come back :D
same ep
I think there's going to be more to this story than just Phillip, as Matt and his father mentioned some catastrophy that caused the human race to live underground. Phillip may have started it, but we don't know where it's going to end.
Regarding the Conner/Abbey relationship, it was mentioned by the producers that their relationship would have appeared to have stalled when they got back, but should be resolved next season. They seem to have a reason for this, but I can't figure out what it is at the moment.
I guess we'll find out later this year...
Regarding the time travel aspect the best way to look at it is from the premise of parallel realities (think of Back to the Future 2).
Nick travelled to the past from (lets call it) Universe 1. Some change was made in the past, and when he travelled back to the future, he was now in Universe 2, indistinguishable from Universe 1, apart from Claudia's dissapearance, and then reappearance as Jenny.
If Matt succeeds in his plan, then it's possible that he will create a new future, one in which a catastrophy never occured, so if he travels to the future it will be the future of that new timeline and could be called Universe 3.
I doubt they'd end with a paradox. Most well-written shows about time travel tend to find plausible ways around paradox's, and scientists are convinced that time protects itself in some way by creating these parallel realities
Hope that makes sense...
+++++ Season 5 News +++++
Season 5 will build towards a climax, so I suspect that this will be the last series.
Monsters for this series include: A creature that burrows underground; a very very large creature (the biggest they've ever had); the return of the raptors (and lots of them); a big very very famous dinosaur (I suspect a T-Rex) and the future predators (but apparently in a slightly different guise)
Season 5 will return in the spring (no other date yet), and will be shown first on satellite channel Watch in the UK
+++++++ Season 5 News ++++++++
The latest news is that season 5 will start in May.
I'll post an exact date once I have one
Yay! Thank-you DO for keeping us up to date :)
++++++ Season 5 News ++++++
The fifth season starts broadcasting on satellite channel Watch on Tuesday 24th May.
No time has been given yet, but I suspect it will take the 8pm slot which will be vacated by 'No Ordinary Family' with it's last episode this Tuesday
Just to confirm, the broadcast time is indeed 8pm BST on the 24th
:O Oh my Lud!! Yes! This is excellent news, thanks DO! [act]flaildance[/act]
Sea 5 Episode 1
So it seems the new season starts 24 hours after the previous one ends. No news on where Conner went though.
Phillip is building something called 'New Dawn', some sort of free energy device. I bet it cause the faults with the anomalies
So, the insects are from the future, and Matt has finally admitted that he's from there and why he is here!
The underground creatures reminded me a lot of the film 'Tremors'
It's finally nice to see some proper emotion between Abby and Conner again!
So who is April, this new assistant to Conner? Seems like she's probably not the geeky scientist we think she is.
All-in-all, not a bad episode, but after last season's finale, this season has got off to a slow start.
++++ Season 5 News +++++
In an interview, Hannah Spearritt has spoken about the end of the season:
"No, the series won't end on a cliffhanger. You won't feel dissatisfied. You won't feel short-changed. The writers have taken everything into account, partly because of what happened at the end of series three. Talk about a cliffhanger. That was ridiculous. They're covering their backs, but leaving things open."
YAY Primeval! S5E01:
On April: trap! She's a trap! :P
Oh my god, how funny was the whole knighthood side-story this week?
As for the main arc - very interesting! Phillip seems to think what he's doing is good (solving the world's energy problems) and I'm glad they took this tact - I'd hate for him to be another complete psycho (though that was done with Helen...come to think of it, how does Helen come into all this again?).Â
I agree - emotion between Abby /Connor! Finally! Though April is clearly there to stir things up. And, one thing, I doubt very much that Abby would have just sat around outside while someone else rescued him. That felt a little off character.Â
I wonder when those future creatures came through? There was no talk of anomalies ever opening for them.
Guh, more to say but gotta get off the train/go to work.
S5E3:
I was right! Emily was Spring-Heeled Jack (or at least as the old depictions show), but didn't actually do any killing.
I'm glad she came back to the present.
April is back. What a [censored]! Lets see if something bad happens to her...
So, it looks like the device that Phillip had Conner working on creates anomalies, so if the full reactor comes on line that's most likely what has created all of the anomalies we've seen to date.
S5E4:
Just a note: If you don't like insects (and I mean lots and lots of insects), don't watch this episode!
I don't normally mind bugs, but those swarms of beetles made my skin crawl!
The scene where you see down a tunnel of bugs reminded me of the scene in Temple of Doom where Whillie had to put her hand in the hole to push the release lever.
Rex is back! It hasn't been the same without him ;-)
So we finally have proof that Phillip and Helen were working together. I'm glad to see that Conner can finally see Phillip for what he is
Only two more episodes left, and by all accounts they are going to be amazing!

S5E5:
What a fantastic episode! It's like all of the seasons have been rolled into one episode!!
It's good to see the T-Rex again, and the tusked lizard and aboreal raptors from last year, and the carniverous worms the Cutter fought.
Tripping the T-Rex with the pickup was a brilliant idea on Matts part.
So now we finally know what the anomalies are! Matt explained that every million years the Earth's magnetic pole reverse, and the anomalies are part of that. The convergence (where loads of anomalies open all over the world) is a natural phenomenon and the Earth's creatures adapt to the change. So one question: Just how far in the future is Matt from?!
I'm glad Abby and Conner with each other again, and that was a heart-wrenching moment when Abby was screaming for Conner as he was sucked through the anomaly.
I'm glad April's been killed, now all we need to do is have that happen to Phillip!
Lol at Lester taking on the Aboreal Raptor.
One episode left to go and if this one was anything to go by, it will be one hell of a finale!!!!!

S5E6 (the final episode):
Seeing the mutated future predator for the first time was very creepy. The way it stood up like a human and then slowly bent over to walk on all-fours. And then when the two were fighting one ripped the others arm off and beat it to death with it. Quite a gruesome start to the final episode.
The tear running down Conners cheek when he thought he was going to die was a nice touch.
So they journeyed far into the future, and were at the time Matt came from (or just after it)
The future predator in the Arc added to the tension, and Lester was hunting it. Shame he got hurt.
Phillip came through in the end, but i'm still glad he's dead.
So how has Becker suddenly appeared and now Abbey knows what's happening in the Arc??! I suppose the Arc could've called up and told them...
I'm glad Abbey and Conner are getting married!
Just when we thought it would end well, we suddenly get two Matts, and the beaten-up one was telling himself to go back to his own time...
What a fantastic way to end the series!!!
So that was the final ever episode of Primeval....
....or was it?
Apparently there may be a series 6. Adrian Hodges and Tim Haines are considering a storyline only if Series 5 ratings are good and if they can get the support and funding from ITV and Watch.
That's all the information I can find out at the moment, but if I find anything else i'll post it here
They've certainly left enough material to continue if they want another series!
Paul and I finally got around to watching the last 3 episodes...yes the future creatures are so creepy!! But you know what I loved? Start of ep4 (I think) with the Tyrannosaurus in London. Good old Primeval :P
DO I was the same with both Becker just showing up, and Abby knowing what was going on...it was like, what is she psychic? All the coms are down?
I was a little shocked over Philip's death. He'd turned to the side of good / realised his mistake. I found it really weird that Matt would just let him sacrifice himself that way. It was like, they were too ready to let him die, even after he'd shown signs of atoning. And ultimately, wasn't he trying to do good? He thought it was stopping convergence which to his knowledge, would be horrible for the earth, and at the same time solving power issues. He did some wrong/stupid things along the way to achieve it but I started to wonder if he was the bad guy because he was bad, or if he was the bad guy because Matt told us he was :-/
So I'm wondering, if 2nd Matt came back because the change they made / blowing up New Dawn didn't actually kill Phillip, but sent him and all the gear through the anomaly (though I admit it did look like they were just vaporised).
Ben Miller-with-gun was hilarious!
When 2nd-Matt walks in at the end, before you could see him I was here going 'be Cutter be Cutter!' :P because...if they change any time (and did Matt/Emily's actions in her time have any ramifications?) future things can change subtly (Claudia/Jenny)...
I hope they do get another season, but I have to wonder at how the Arc will work, now that the world knows about anomalies and they can't be kept a secret.
Nyaawww @ Abby and Conner, too.
I wondered when you were going to get round to finishing the season!
Yeah, i too thought 'be cutter' just before the second Matt was revealed!
I look at Phillip a bit like Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. He started off good and with the best intentions, got corrupted along the way, and turned back to the light at the end, sacrificing his own life in the process
I'll keep looking for anything about season 6. If i find anything i'll post it here
