That just makes you smile. Plain. Simple. Maruman.
Elspeth: The others left and i felt suddenly lonely
Gahlta: " Never alone"
sorry this is probably completly wrong i did it from memory:)
Quote:The dog gave the mental equivalent of a shrug. "it is nature to defend one's mate. It is nature for somebeasts to kill and for others to be killed. The funaga are meat eaters, and killing is nature for them, but they seldom hunt their meat with courage. They trap/breed/chain/fence until the killing, which is done without repect/dignity. Beasts eat flesh but the funaga do what nobeast would. Funaga eat freedom."[/quote]
p.11 The Keeping Place
Here are some good quotes made by beasts.
'Maruman does not loll,' he sent indignantly.
-Maruman TKP HA HA HA!
'Enough sweetsaying,' he sent in general irritation. 'Speak less and say more.'
-Maruman, again This cat is weird!TKP
I cannot belive no one put this one in yet!
'If funaga fight funaga, whoever wins will still be funaga.'
-Rasial TKP She's so wise.
"I love ye, Elspeth. Sorry about Dragon an all."
Only then did he move, faintly, so faintly I could barely catch it, I heard his whisper inside my mind.
"Ravek, my Elspethlove"
- Ashlings, page 517
Ahh tis so sweet!!
Ever was Obernewtyn empty when you were not there. Yet I survived and you will survive.
god you guys are good.... I'm so glad that u agree about what the most wonderful
Stone Key quotes: (Spoilered in case you haven't read the book yet) :)
p35: "People who are strong forgive themselves least of all" - Pretty sure it's Brydda
p41: "They are untidy/disturbing." Maruman responded with a fastidious mental shudder that was rather like having someone sneeze inside your head. (Lol)
p73: And he (Maruman) had not once glared at the moon, now glowing overhead. I looked up at it, yellow and ripe as a wheel of cheese... (Moonfair comp :P)
p79: "Enough is not measured by what you give but by what is needed." - Brydda
Quotes with Rushton :P
p109: Why, I wondered bleakly, was it so much more hurtful to love him hopelessly now than before I had known that he cared for me?
p188: I summoned up a mental image of Rushton as he had been when we parted last. I saw his coldness and compassion rather than disappointment and sorrow. I felt boundless gratitude that he had come into my life to show me how deeply I could love, and it was a little burst of light in that dark moment to realise that being able to love was the real gift of life... (Awwwww :))
This is a Stone Key one but it does'nt realy give away much:
" 'Do not listen to him,' Gahltha sent. 'His is a contrary species. So eager has he been to come to you that he rent the night with his dreadful yowling.'
'Singing the heart song, I was, Maruman sent haughtily. 'A pity equine ears are so dull /crude.' " pg. 762
"Maruman does not loll."
And i like this thread very much.
'I had learned the hardest way of all, that beauty and happiness, like life, were ephemeral and could no more be saved up for later than a sunbeam could be hoarded.'
Ahh.... true wisdom
this is one of my favourites
"hello little sad eyes"
i luv that nickname!
"You are mine, whatever else you are."
-Rushton to Elspeth *swoon* (L)
I also love the first time Swallow and Elf meet, but Swallow isn't the same after being D'rekta. :( I love the times Elf talks to Dameon and when she is with Rushton.
How can you not like those Rushie/Elf moments?
Get out Rushton-haters. ).(
Yes that is a true quote - there are many that I would like to find.
I can't quote thme but I can quote bits. Now I want to and read them again. I like the ones in the 3rd and 5th book the best (L) [act]swoons[/act] Hope the Sending is filled with them :-"
"... Can anyone know freedom who has not known the lack of it?"
-Elspeth to Galtha. The Keeping Place
"... Everyone disappears in the end. ...I always thought I would be the one to leave and instead it is I who am left."
-Elspeth to Dameon. The Keeping Place
"... Teach me to be wise, for I cannot bear this pain."
-Elspeth to Sharna. Obernewtyn
and one from the Legendsong :-"
'I fall into the void, I drown.'
'I wonder if such a victory as this will win us something worth having'
Very wise words! :D
I, too, love a lot of those quotes mentioned, but I think one of my favourite ones is the scene where Swallow and Elspeth meet in Ashling (probably my fav book of the series):
''If I had known it was so easy to silence you, I would have done that sooner,' he said, releasing me.
Childishly, I rubbed my hand across my mouth.
'Revulsion rendered me silent,' I snapped.'
'Revulsion rendered me silent' is such a good comeback!
I also love a lot of previous quotes mentioned in this thread, like the performing ape one, Dameon - 'Ever Obernewtyn was empty when you were not there', Maruman - 'Stupid funaga, all funaga are stupid', and all the intimate scenes between Rushton and Elspeth, especially at the end of Ashling when they basically declare their love for each other...also a quote I find funny is what Iriny says in The Stone Key:
''You!' I gasped.
'I,' she agreed caustically, her odd two-coloured eyes gleaming.'
''...and what sort of burrowing animal are you?' Iriny asked, sounding amused.
The boy bridled and stuck out his chin. 'I am Erit and I'm not afraid of you.'
'Good,' Iriny said. 'I am not afraid of you either.''
"If love exists but is forever withheld, is it truly love? Is it not a kind of cowardice?" - Jakoby, The Stone Key
I'm not sure why I like that quote so much, but I do...
"who knows where a cat goes" - sharna (obernewtyn)
i have no idea why i like that quote
"I have learned that happiness is like the sun. It must be enjoyed when it comes and while it shines".
Yeah I love that one Synergy!
Here is one of my faves from chapter 26 of Ober.....
‘I want to help,’ I said. ‘But I don’t have much courage,’ I added, thinking of Sharna and the dogs. (Elspeth)
Louis said briskly, ‘There’s strong an’ weak in th’ world. If yer born without courage, ye mun look in yeself an’ find it. There’s a hard way ahead of ye.
