greylands_isobelle_carmody_film_.jpg Isobelle has just confirmed that her 1997 novel (republished in 2012) Greylands is being turned into a film!

Greylands is the haunting and exquisitely rendered story of Jack and his little sister, Ellen, as they struggle to cope with their father's despair in the bleak time after their mother's death. One night Jack enters the greylands – a world where there is no colour, no noise, no laughter – a place that only the wounded can enter.

As reported in The Age today (10 October):
Isobelle Carmody is adapting her novel Greylands, about a boy struggling to come to terms with his mother's death who enters into a mysterious world of storytelling. Editor Luke Doolan, who directed the short film Miracle Fish, which was nominated for an Academy Award for best live action short in 2010, will make his feature directing debut.
And then Isobelle added (via Facebook):
The article does not mention Tara Morice who is the producer and the moving force behind the project. She read it to her daughter when she was young, and from what I understand, her daughter suggested it. Tara came to me and it was one of those moments when you know a really important thing is happening. It was she who talked me into writing the screenplay.
That's right - Isobelle's writing the screenplay! The crew thus far for Greylands is: Producer: Tara Morice Executive Producer: Martin Fabinyi Writer: Isobelle Carmody Director: Luke Doolan Congratulations Isobelle - we all can't wait to see Greylands on the silver screen!
