obernewtyn_net_inis_magazine_ireland.jpg A few months ago, I was emailed by a Patricia Kennon, co-editor of "INIS: The Children's Books Ireland Magazine", asking if they could use a screenshot of Obernewtyn.net in their upcoming article about the fanfiction phenomena.

Chuffed at the idea, I agreed, as long as they could send us a copy of the article when it was completed! The mention of us in the article reads thus;
...When browsing through fan fiction sites, one can quickly distinguish a trend: that the most popular genre of fiction written is fantasy. Although there are substantial fansites devoted to other fantasy writers for you people (e.g. Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series at ~Link~ or the site dedicated to Isobelle Carmody, the Australian fantasy writer for young adults, at ~Link~ ), one of the most popular fantasy stories written about JK Rowling's Harry Potter series...
It's a little mention, plus piccie [act]points right[/act] but definitely a great nod at the Fanfiction section of Obernet - anyone who has contributed should be proud! Free advertising :D ! You can check out the Fanfiction section of the site by clicking 'Fanfiction' on the left menu, or just by clicking here. Inis- is the only journal in Ireland dedicated to the study and promotion of children's books and culture and we have a wide readership of booksellers, parents, academics, librarians, teachers and children's writers. You can find more information about -Inis- at www.childrensbooksireland.com.

    I've only just noticed this. Is there any link to the full article online? I ask only because the other fansite mentioned (BridgeToTheStars) is my other main online hangout and the people there would be very interested to know about this article too.

    Hehe, the first thing I noticed was INIS, and how similar it was to INES - love it! ;D

    And the promo's awesome, plus Obernet got a picture, so that's a thousand words right there! :P

    I agree with what MK said about why people read fantasy - I think that would also be why fanfiction for it is so popular - there are so many possibilities, and ways of using our imaginations! :D

    One of the things I love about this bit of a promo is that the magazine is called Inis...very nearly INES. I got a chuckle out of that.
