Obernewtyn.net's 2011 Calendar Comp

What is now becoming a traditional, Obernewtyn.net is running a competition for a 2011 calendar! If you're interested in purchasing a 2010 calendar, or viewing the entries, see this thread.

As per previous years, we are looking to select twelve pieces of artwork to feature in the 2011 calendar, and another to be the cover. Once completed, the calendar will be be made available to all members to purchase at the end of 2010 at our zazzle store. Each Calendar sold will put about $1AUD toward Obernet's site fees and the rest of the price is the cost of the calendar itself (this is the minimum price possible at the zazzle store).

Competition is open from now, until the 1st November 2010

Submission Guidelines:
  • Images need to be of your own creation and in no way, shape or form use copywrited images. If you use any copywrited images (from book covers to stock photos), your submission won't be included.
  • Text/quotes should be avoided if possible, again due to copywrite issues. Anything we see as a potential breach of copywrite will be replaced by penguins! |:|
  • Final images need to be 2200x1700px, and 300 dpi resolution, in the .png format. If you're not sure what this means, please download and use this template to ensure your design is the right size (note - this is a new template, to suit Zazzle standards. If you have used the cafepress template we've offered in the past, please delete it and use this new template instead!).
  • Based on last year's calendar, can we ask members to have their designs covered all the way to the edge, even if it just some background colour. Please also make sure that any important details are kept within the first rectangle, again to ensure they are not omitted during final printing.
  • When submitting your designs to the gallery, you will need to save and upload a 600 x 464 pixel .jpg for previewing.
  • You must be OKAY with the possibility that Obernet will use and publish your image in the calendar.

Submission Suggestions:
  • You may submit any piece of artwork that is related to any of Isobelle Carmody's works, or to the our Obernewtyn.net website.
  • In the spirit of creativity, why not experiment with media? Let us see your own illustrations, or exercise your skills in Photoshopping: go beyond labelling stock photos, and instead create a whole montage of Obernewtyn-themed shots, or blend your own drawings with photos, text, and effects to create a digital artwork. The possibilities are limitless, so why not try something innovative, and practice your technique? Rather than seeing a photo as a finished product, view it as a base to build upon and Ober-fy :D
  • For inspiration, why not enter some of the art competitions that are run around the site? For current and previous art comps, visit the Art competitions page.
  • Some general ideas for artwork may include:

We will award 5 guild points each for your first three entries into the competition (maximum of 15 points).

Finally, HOW to submit your designs:
If you've made it this far - and are still keen on entering - here's how!
  • Design your calendar image, adhering to the submission guidelines.

  • Go to the 2011 Calendar Designs Gallery
  • Upload your 600x464px .jpg to the gallery. Ensure your USERNAME is in the image title somewhere, and ensure you don't use any special-characters from your keyboard - just use a-z (capicals ok) and 0-9.
  • .zip and email your full-size, high-quality .png to Min - to this email address - -email-. Your entry's not completed until you do this step!

How the winning designs will be chosen:
After the closing date of the artwork section of the competition has closed, details will be made available on how to vote for which pieces of artwork you would like to see featured for each month. This way, everyone on Obernet can enter, and anyone can win. It's a calendar for Obernewtyn.net members - voted by the members! ;)

If you have any questions about the Calendar competition or wish to discuss ideas with other members, please visit 'The 2011 Calendar Comp' thread in Artistmerge.

Otherwise - get creative and upload that artwork!
