“The gypsies are here, the gypsies are here!â€
The cry echoed up the tower. Lisa rushed to the window and sure enough, trundling up the dustry road to Obernewtyn where a trail of Gypsy rigs. Tommi, another young Farseeker joined her at the window.
“This is going to be the best Moonfair ever!†he cried excitedly. “I hear the Gypsies have planned a special treat for us this year! And there's that rumour that Rushton is planning a show with some pigs or something.â€
Lisa grinned. “And we have our special thing as well.â€
“Shhhh!†Tommi hissed. “Someone might hear, its supposed to be a surprise!â€
“And just who's going to hear me in here? We're all Farseekers!†Lisa laughed.
Tommi shook his head, “I saw Mark, that futureteller in here the other day, sneaking about. He was probably trying to find out what we've got planned.â€
Lisa sighed in exasperation, “I think they already know what we've got planned silly.â€
Tommi frowned, “How? Did you see one sneaking about too? I don't trust that Maryon.â€
“Think about it Tommi,†Lisa explained patiently, “they're future tellers. Get it?â€
Tommi continued to frown for a moment, until guilty grin spread across his face. “Oh..â€
“Yeah, oh!.†Lisa laughed.
“Hey, you two!†Ceirwan called from the doorway. Lisa and Tommi jumped guiltily and turned to face the Guilden. “I'm sure there's something you should be doing rather then gawking down at our visitors.†Ceirwan admonished, “Aren't you on kitchen duty this week?â€
“Oh no! It's not lunch already is it?†Tommi asked reluctantly, “Quick Lis, Javo will kill me if I'm late again.†he grabbed Lisa's hand and dragged her off towards the kitchens.
“Sorry,†Lisa abashedly mumbled as she ducked past Ceirwan, then raced off behind her friend. As she ran she couldn't help but let a grin spread across her face. She had a feeling this Moonfair was going to be very interesting... and lots of fun!

They arrived at the kitchens, dodging excited guildmembers along the way, and made it look like they had been there the whole time.
However, Javo was far from fooled and just looked at the pair unhappily before continuing his cooking.
As soon as Javo's attention was fixed elsewhere, Lisa and Tommi burst out laughing, causing more angry looks from Obernewtyn-ites deep in concentration.
Joni stepped up to the pair with her hands situated on her hips. Lisa and Tommi looked at her innocently, well aware that their mentor was far from in the mood for their antics.
"There isn't that much to do is there?" Tommi asked sneakily.
"I'm sure you are aware of the number of guests that have just arrived. You'll be staying longer to make up for it. Hopefully we can get dinner out on time, as now lunch will be late." Joni growled before stalking away.
Lisa sniggered at Tommi before the pair started their kitchen help.

The kitchen was busier than usual, with people everywhere trying to cater for the larger number of people that would need to be fed.
"Why do I always get stuck cutting up the onions?" Lisa said as tears rolled down her face.
"Because you're a much more skilled chopper than I," Tommi replied with a grin as he peeled potatoes.
"There isn't time to talk!" Javo shouted. "So many guests, so little time..."
"We can still speak through our minds," Tommi sent to Lisa using his farseeking ability and stuck his tongue out at Javo as he turned back to the stove.
Lisa smiled, but didn't respond to Tommi and returned to her onions.

Tommi concentrated on his peeling for a time, tuning out the kitchen sounds as if you would tune out the radio.
A loud SMASH! broke into his daydreaming, causing the whole kitchen to look up and exclaim at the pile of broken dishes lying on the floor. Javo stood gaping for a few seconds, before going straight up to the misfit responsible and glowering.
"I... I... I did..didn't mean... it." The yound misfit stammered.
"Your lucky that wasn't you." Lisa sent to her friend knowingly.
Tommi shrugged, loving that he wasn't the one in trouble for once.
The clean up began shortly thereafter, everyone running this way and that.
"We are already behind!" Javo moaned. "You two!" He pointed towards the pair.
Tommi and Lisa walked slowly up to javo, preparing for his foul mood as best they could.
"You two must go to the leader of the guests and apologise for lunch being late. We'll get the clean up dont quicker without you here anyway"
Lisa and Tommi looked at each other in wonder. The leader of the gypsies! Why they'd heard so many stories!
Swallow was pacing, impatiently, around Elspeth, who was stroking Maruman.
Lisa and Tommi walked nevously up to them. They didn't know that the Farseeking Guildmistress would be there!
The D'rekta looked up a them as they walked towards them, scowling.
Tommi jumped back from the furious look on Swallow's face, but Lisa kept walking towards him.
"Javo sent us to apologise, for Lunch will be late," Lisa stared at her hands.
Elspeth and Swallow said nothing, but Maruman stretched and jumped off of Elspeth's lap, and headed in the direction of the kitchens.

Swallow looked into the air around Tommi and frowned some more. Turning to Elspeth he asked, "Is this boy new to Obernewtyn."
"Why" Elspeth replied, "He's been with us for a while now, is there something wrong?"
"His aura is strange" said Swallow.
Tommi looked at his shoes and gulped. Lisa turned to look at her friend. "Whats wrong with him?" she demanded of Swallow.
"His aura shows feeling of guilt" replied Swallow.
Tommi looked up at the Guildmistress with a contrite look in his eyes. "Well?" asked Elspeth.
The boy hung his head again. "I was late to the kitchen again, so thats why lunch will be late" he admitted.
Swallow gave him another hard look, nodded in agreeent and turned back to Elspeth who waved the two young misfits away. Tommi and Lisa ran out and back to the kitchen.

Tommi and Lisa hung their heads as they entered the kitchen, again bustling with the sounds of cooking, the clean-up obviously over.
Javo called to them; "Have they been informed?"
"The D'rekta can see auras!" Lisa sniggered at Tommi.
"I have known him to have much power. Now, I Believe Sunja is having trouble with the pile of potatoes and onions you two left behind." Javo gestured to a young girl struggling with a huge pile of vegetables.
Lisa and Tommi groaned in unision. "We're going."
Little did they know their work would soon be interrupted...
"Stupid Funaga! When will you learn the meaning of life? Anyone can delegate!"
Maruman was sitting on a large china cake dish, gazing down imperiously upon the denizens of the kitchen, he seemed to be speaking directly to Lisa and Tommi.
The few beastspeakers in the kitchens laughed at this and rolled their eyes at the cat.
"What did he say?" Lisa hated not knowing things.
A young beastspeaker, Trian, leant over and told them.
"I wish", Tommi replied heartily.
Maruman lept down and began playing with the vegetables they were trying to cut up.
"Oy," Tommi said, waving his hands at the old cat "We're supposed to be working here."
Maruman looked up at him disdainfully, then suddenly swiped his paw across Tommi's palm.
"Ow!" Tommi yelled, attracting Javo's attention.
"Whats going on here?" Maruman jumped down and twined around Javo's legs before sauntering out.
"Stupid Funaga, always lying."
Lisa glared at Maruman, she was no beastspeaker, but a toddler would have known what Maruman was saying.
"Maruman scratched Tommi!"
Javo looked uncertainly at Maruman. "Are you sure that Tommi didn't attack Maruman's claws? Get back to work, Lisa. Tommi, go wash that".
Maruman looked smug, he had made a Funaga out to be stupid.
Tommi stalked out of the kitchen to the court yard. On his way he made sure to glare a Maruman. The old cat, looked at him smugly and stalked off. "stupid cat" he mumbled. He found the courtyard and bent to wash the blood of his hands in the trough. As he bent a smooth brown hand grabed his wrist. "You would be wise to be more careful" a even smoother vioce said. Tommi looked up and stared into the face of a beatuful gypsy girl. "H-hi" he stutterd out, "Hello TOmmi" the girl smiled. "How do you know my name" he asked incrediously. The girl symply tapped her nose, and ran off. "I have to find out who she is" he vowed to himself, as he dipped to clean his hand again.
Walking back into the kitchen in a daze, he forgot for a moment what he was supposed to be doing.
"Oy Tommi, get over here and help with these veggies, you oaf!" Lisa dragged him back to the table. "Whats up with you?"
"Nothing." Tommi didnt want to tell Lisa about the beautiful gypsy girl.
"Oh suuurrre, you look like you've seen a flamebird and you wont tell me whats wrong?" angrily, she hacked at the vegetables. "Fine then, see if i care."

Tommi continued with his vegetable peeling and chopping without really knowing what it was he was doing. In his mind he was spinning daydreams about the gypsy girl; running through the fields on the farms hand in hand... sitting uner the tree at the far end sharing a picnic lunch......
"Oofffff". He felt a hard hand come down on his shoulder and turned to glare at Ceirwan standing behind him "What was that for?" he complained.
"That was for you leaking your thoughts all over the place." Said Ceir.
I'm sure we don'tall need to know about your love life while you're preparing our lunch. Which is later than usual."
Tommi snapped his shield into place looking embarrassed and turned to Lisa. She wouldn't look at him and continued to chop onions fiercely while tears rolled down her face.

"Lisa!" Javo shouted across the kitchen.
Without looking at Tommi, Lisa put down the onion she was chopping and walked over to where the large cook was stirring a pot of fruit. Her mouth began watering at the sweet aroma coming from the pot, and her stomach grumbled in anticipation.
"You and Lina are to take these trays to The Farseeker guildmisstress and her guests," he indicated three trays piled with plates of food and jugs of various liquids. "And for Luds sake don’t drop them!"
Lisa watched as Lina took up one tray, and another beastspeaker laid the second on top. Javo scooped up the third tray, placing it reverently into Lisa's waiting arms and shooed both girls out of the kitchen.
At first neither girl spoke. Lina walked swiftly ahead, while Lisa lagged behind struggling to keep her tray balanced. Of course Javo gave her the tray laden with drinks, why couldn’t Tommi have done it instead?
"It’s been a while since the gypsies were at Obernewtyn. Just think of all the extra stalls and entertainment we'll have at the Moonfair this year". Lina rounded a corner and slowed down a little to ensure Lisa made it around without loosing her load.
"I didn’t get to see Swallow the last time they were here. He seems quite moody, a little like Rushton".
Lina laughed and slowed to walk alongside Lisa.
"He's not really as moody as Rushton. I don’t think I have ever seen him in a bad mood. Most of the rumours around Obernewtyn say that he is a very determined and capable D'rekta." She adjusted her trays and slowed as the entered the passage to Elspeth's room. "Besides that, he's apparently very good looking and just as confident in his own abilities."
The two fell quiet again as they approached the door. It took them a moment to work out which of them was going to knock on the door. With her tray balanced precariously on a raised knee, Lisa lifted her hand to knock but before she could do so, raised voices caught their attention.
"Wait," Lina whispered, leaning toward the door.
"What is it?" Lisa mimed, resuming hold of her tray and moving her ear close to the wood.
"...sure these visions concern Obernewtyn?"
"Whether directly or indirectly, yes. The presence of that boy validates it."
The second voice had been Swallows, and Lisa gasped as she realised he meant Tommi's appearance with her earlier.
"Shhh" Lina hissed.
"What do you propose we do then?" Queried a male voice that sounded like Rushton's.
"I think we-"
The conversation stopped abruptly, before the door swung open leaving the girls looking directly at an older gypsy woman, with a plump figure and a long grey plat hanging over her shoulder.
Lisa felt her face drain of colour, but Lina pulled herself up quickly and stepped into the room.
"What great timing. We had no idea how we were going to knock with our hands as full as they are." Lina announced, walking across the room to a small wooden table.
Lisa hurried across after the beastpeaker and put her tray down gently, before helping Lina unload her two trays, hands shaking violently.
"Javo apologises again for the late Midmeal."
With that, the two girls bowed slightly and exited the room.
"Wow, almost caught," Lina breathed as they exited the passage. "I nearly died of fright when Maire opened the door".
"They never took their eyes off us," Lisa whispered. "I have the feeling we overheard something pretty important."
Lina just smiled, looking wild eyed and excited.
"Do you know who they were referring to?" Lina asked Lisa, as they slowly walked back to the kitchen. The longer they took to walk back, the later they would have to help in the kitchen.
Lisa looked startled, and blinked at Lina.. "Uh..."
"Come now! Your reaction to their mention of the presence of 'the boy' indicates that you know what they're talking about! Come on, Lisa! Spill!"
Lisa bit her lip not sure if she should say anything. "I don't know... for sure, I mean, I could have just misinterpreted it. And really we shouldn't be gossiping like this... it could be something really important...."
"Oh Lud! I won't say anything!" Lina moaned. "Please, Lisa," she whined, pulling Lisa's arm, so that they came to a halt.
Lisa swallowed and leaned towards Lina,"Well, I think they may be referring to Tommi, because of the way the Leader of the Gypsies reacted to him-"
"Lina! Lisa! What are you two whispering about? Tell me!!" Tommi interrupted. He was approaching them, Javo had sent him to ensure the girls weren't dawdling. Both the girls jumped in fright, looks of guilt upon their faces.

Lisa glanced across at Lina, then tried to look innocent. "We just went to deliver the food to Guildmistress Elspeth and her guests - we were just talking about how amazing it was to see them all there like that! And we got to see Maire, the healer. I'd heard so much about her from Kella!"
Tommi looked at her doubtfully. "Is that really..."
Lina interrupted him, "Look, Javo's just said we have time for a bite to eat - better hurry, or we'll be asked to do something else!"
Tommi was immediately sidetracked. "Great! I'm starving!" He ran over towards the food.
Javo saw him and was about to tell Tommi to get back to work, when he was distracted by Lisa, who had quickly moved to intercept him. They exchanged a few words, then she went to join Tommi, who luckily hadn't noticed a thing.

"Come on Tommi, Javo said we can go help the beastspeakers set up" Lisa said.
Tommi looked at her doubtfully
"Javo said that?" he asked, Lisa nodded innocently. The pair walked out to the maze and were soon joined by Lina. Lisa looked warily at the other girl.
"so um...Tommi can you run ahead for us and see if the path ways are clear?" Lina asked. Tommi nodded at the older girl and ran ahead.
*********
Tommi's head was filled with thoughts of the gypsy girl. Carefully keeping check on his mind shield he allowed him self to speculate about who she was. Prehaps she is a gypsy princess, or maybe a very talented gypsy, with amazing mind powers, he thought. Near by he heard a horse snort with what sounded like laughter. Tommi replaced his shield as is face flamed red.
"So, what do you think they were talking about?" Lina asked Lisa. "Something that will happen here because of Tommi's presence. How well do you know him exactly?"
"We've been friends since he arrived a few months ago." Lisa answered with a shrug. "But we shouldn't gossip Lina, I mean Elspeth and the others didn't exactly look too worried, maybe it's not something bad that's going to happen, but something good."
Lina smiled. "You always look at the glass half full."
"Who has a glass half full?" Tommi asked returning, "I'm thirsty."
The girls laughed and Tommi glared at them. All three wandered through the maze and finally arrived at the barns where a great commotion was going on all under the watchful eyes of Alad. Tables were being set up for a dinner under the stars. It was the first banquet to herald the begining of the Moonfair and all at Obernewtyn would be attending. Even the Teknoguilders were coming up from their caves for the night.
Lina led the two Farseekers over to Alad. "Javo sent us to help you set up for dinner Guildmaster, where would you like us to help?"
Alad glanced down first at Lina. "Great, can you go make sure the pigs are secure? We don't want them getting all excited and escaping like they did last year ok?"
Lina nodded and Alad's eyes moved to Tommi and Lisa. "And I suppose you two can help with setting the tables."
Lisa nodded and then jabbed Tommi in the ribs so he would stop daydreaming and nod too. She then grabbed his arm and dragged him over to get some table cloths.
"Stop thinking about your gypsy girl and help me will you!" Lisa snapped.
"I wasn't!" Tommi lied, "and how do you knwo what I was thinking about?"
"Ceirwan wasn't the only one who was treated to a glimpse of your fantasies." Lisa scolded, "Why wouldn't you tell me about her when you came back in?"
"Why won't you tell me what you and Lina were talking about?" Tommi retorted.
Lisa said nothing but grabbed a cloth and stomped over to a table. She threw it over the table with such force that it fell right off the other side.
She quickly picked it up, but was surprised when no one told her off. She looked around at the few misfits who were working near her. All of them were boys and their attention was firmly fixed elsewhere. A beautiful gypsy girl was talking to Tommi who was grinning foolishly up at her nodding to watever she was saying.
"I don't remember saying we could have a break yet." Alad's voice came from behind Lisa making her jump and drop the cloth again as the boys around her quickly got back to work.
Alad swooped down and picked up the table cloth. "You beter get a fresh one," he said, a small smile playing about his lips, "That's twice now you've dropped it, and it is a bit muddy here. Perhaps you should try to spread the next one without so much anger?"
Lisa snatched the cloth form his hands, "I didn't know you were an Empath." she snapped, then blushed as she realised who she was talking to. "I'm sorry Guildmaster." she stammered, "It won't happen again."
Lisa turned and practically ran back to the table where the linnen was laid out.
"Why is Alad looking at you funny?" Tommi asked.
Lisa looked up at him, the Gypsy girl was gone and Tommi was standing there with a silly look on his face.
"I'm surprised you can even see Alad, did it hurt your eyes to tear them away from that girl?" With that Lisa marched off to find another table cloth.
"Tommi, Lisa, please come to the Farseeker Tower." Ceirwan's voice interrupted both their thoughts.
"But we're helping Alad." Even Lisa's mind voice shook a little.
"Alad will manage without you both. Quickly now." Ceriwan, as ever, spoke gently but Lisa was filled with fear.
Lisa, shaking slightly, marched off to the Tower with Tommi racing ahead. Lisa was so scared of what might happen in the tower she almost went the wrong way.
"Great! Now, I have a very important job for you both." Lisa tried to look behind Ceirwan as he greeted them at teh door. The gypsies didn't seem to be in the room... "Elspeth wants tonight's moonfair surprise to go well, but it seems we have a problem."
He gestured to behind him. There was a great pile of clothes and props.
"Happy sorting!" With that he left them alone in the tower. Great, thought Lisa, here I was thinking we were about to find out all of this intrigue and mystery, and instead we get to fold clothes?!

"This sucks" Tommi complained as he folded yet another costume.
"Stop whinging and get it done. Then we can go back and see all the performers set up." Lisa replied scathingly.
"Well sorry moody person." Tommi commented sarcastically, wondering what was bothering Lisa.
The gypsy girl made another appearance, not noticing Tommi as she walked over to Elspeth's room. Tommi started to follow her.
"What are you doing?!" Lisa demanded.
"Come on!"
The pair walked to the half closed door and listened intently, Lisa worrying about what they might hear.
"Did you see him, Ilnja?" Swallow asked the gypsy girl.
"Yes, he's the one we've been looking for."
Tommi and Lisa heard indrawn breaths from inside the room.
"What do you want us to do?" Elspeth asked Swallow seriously.
"What can we honestly do? What can stop it from taking place?" Rushton groaned.
Tommi turned to look at Lisa. "Are- are they talking about me?"
"Well, you know, maybe not... They might mean someone else. Or, um, maybe it's not as sinister as it sounds. Maybe it's the moonfair! Oh- Oh- I know! You're going to do something totally awesome at the moonfair and it'll show up the gypsies and that's what Swallow's worried about!"
Tommi just looked at her.
"It could happen..." Lisa trailed off as someone entered the room.
"Do I have to watch you do every little thing? The clothes are on this side of the room, but for some reason you're both on that one. Explain? Tommi?"
Tommi looked stricken and couldn't say anything. Ceirwan looked at him concernedly.
"Sorry, guilden. We'll get right back to it." Lisa grabbed Tommi's hand and pulled him over to the other side of the room.
Ceirwan watched them for a moment. "What's the matter?" He whispered to them.
"Oh, um, nothing... Just, um, nervous about the moonfair... Heh. Heh." Lisa was not good at lying.
Cierwan's eyes narrowed suspiciously.
"Whats going on Lisa?" he sent, a slight frown creasing his brow.
Lisa bit her lip and glanced at Tommi, it appeared Ceirwan had only asked her the question.
She thought for a moment, then glanced up at Ceirwans who was clearly waiting for a response, "I accidentally overheard something earlier that guildmistress Elspeth was discussing with Swallow - and now I'm worried about Tommi. Should I be?" She asked in a rush.
She glanced up again to see Cierwans frown deepen. "I doubt it, if it was serious I'm sure Elspeth would have told me about it, she didn't seem to worried when she asked me to bring him here."
Lisa was surprised Cierwan didn't know what was going on, but her surprise was little compared to the nerves she felt about talking to Cierwan so intimately. The guilden was always a bit of a mystery to her.
"I wouldn't worry about it. He added, Besides, I have more pressing things for you to worry about, Merry is sick and can't take his place in the performance, so I've decided you will take his place.
"What?!" Lisa cried out loud making Tommi jump, he had been oblivious to their silent conversation.
Cierwan grinned, "I really think you'll suit the part perfectly Lisa, plus it gives you something else to work on this afternoon besides eavesdropping."
Lisa felt her face warm with embarrassment.
"What's going on?" Tommi asked, annoyed that something had clearly been going on in the room that he wasn't involved in.
"I think Tommi would be much better in the part." Lisa pleaded, her embarrassment overcome by nerves.
"I've just decided Lisa is going to replace Merry in our performance." Cierwan smiled ignoring Lisa's plea.
Tommi returned the smile, almost laughing as he looked as Lisa, "That's brilliant!" he cried.
"Yes," Cierwan agreed, both of them ignoring Lisa's look of consternation.
Cierwan's smile faded as he suddenly looks away, his eyes focused on nothing, clearly someone was farseeking him.
He nodded once then turned to take Lisa and Tommi in with a glance, "Right, you're with me Lisa, we need to get you some practice, Tommi, stay here and finish up, when you're done here I want you to go straight back to the kitchens to help Javo, got it?"
Tommi nodded, as Lisa rose to the feet looking worried.
"Don't worry Lisa, every thing's going to be fine." Cierwan smiled reassuringly, then turned leading the way from the room.
Lisa threw one last look at Tommi who smiled back as she followed Ciewan trying to decide if there were more then one meaning underlying his words.

Tommi looked longingly after Lisa, wondering why he never got chosen to replace people. "It's so unfair" He whinged quietly.
He continued sorting and folding the costumes, humming to himself to pass the time and put off evident boredom.
He jumped when he heard the guildmistress' door open behind him and made himself look busy with the clothes which weren't even half done yet.
"Tommi is it?" Guildmistress Elspeth queried over his shoulder.
"Ye... yes that's me... Guildmistress. I was... was just doing a jo... job for Ceirwan." Tommi stuttered.
"Come with me." She turned on her heel, the contents of her room spilling out to follow and looking uncertainly at Tommi who quietly followed. "What in Lud's name have I done now?" He muttered to himself.
Elspeth let the party to the futureteller hall, where they went up to Maryon's office and waited. Tommi looked around confused, but no-one would meet his eyes, not even the pretty gypsy girl he'd seen before.
Maryon walked in, or rather, floated in. Her movements were so graceful as she moved to her seat by the fire that Tommi was almost mesmerised. He shook his head and tried to concentrate as the futuretell leader fixed her misty gaze on him.
"I feel his potential." She announced mystically.
"We feel that also Maryon," Elspeth answered impatiently. "What we need to know is when? When is it coming?"
Maryon sat quietly for a few moments before answering in little more than a whisper: "Tonight. The moment the clock strikes for the start of moonfair it is coming. There is no escaping."
A distant clatter, and a wail from outside broke the trance-like silence that had fallen, and Swallow laughed.
"Don't look so scared, boy!" he said to Tommi. "It won't be all that bad"
"Wh-what won't?" Stuttered Tommi. "What is coming, and what does it h-have to do w-with me?"
"Weren't you listening to Ilnja when she spoke with you earlier?"
Tommi felt the blush sweep across his face as he realised he didn't have the slightest recollection what the pretty girl had said to him.

Ilnya smiled at Tommi who blushed all the harder. "What did you say?" He asked her.
"Nothing that can be repeated this late in the day." She replied.
Elspeth, taking pity on the young Farseeker patted his shoulder saying, "Never mind lad, back to what you were doing now."
"But..." Tommi began.
"No buts!" said Elspeth, off to the kitchen with you.
"What about the clothes?" Tommi didn't want to be left in the dark, not if this concerned him.
"The clothes will be fine, see what Javo has for you." came the reply.
Knowing he didn't have any choice, Tommi headed toward the door. Suddenly he spun around to face the group who were looking at him. "Its not fair!" He exclaimed. "No-one tells me anything"
