When I read the Scatterlings I noticed some elements of Obernewtyn.
Did you notice any? Or any scenes that reminded you of Obernewtyn?
Do you think they told (or Whispered) of things to happen in upcoming book, Ashling I think it was

I did notice a couple of similarities between the books, but not just between Obernewtyn and Scatterlings, also Obernewtyn and Legendsong, Greylands and Green monkey dreams, Green monkey dreams and all the other books (including itself). Does the laughing beast in Greylands remind anyone else of Rushton? I don't necessarily mean directly, I just keep thinking of Rushton every time I read about it . . .
I don't really think that there are clues to what's going to happen hidden in the other books, I just think that there are certain themes or ideas that IC keeps coming back to, like masks and the tower and the similarities between the laughing beast and Poppy and the destroyer (not suggesting that Rushton is the destroyer btw).
I know that when I'm writing, sometimes I'll get taken by an idea and it will present itself to me in a hundred different facets and sometimes a couple of them are just too good to only write about one of those facets.
yea, did you notice that in most IC books (or at least the series), there is a cat, the mindstream or darkness invading the world?
yeah there is. I had not really noticed that. And prophecies and enhanced abilities now I come to think about it.
I think IC writes about issues she feels strongly about, which tend to come out in all of her books :) but *nods* I definitely noticed similarities between Scatterlings and the Ober Chrons. The themes and some aspects are very similar...like the idea of 'beforetimers' destroying the Earth and themselves with the technology and weapons they created; and of course the idea of developing mind powers. In both books there's also prejudice shown by the 'powerful group' against groups of people who are different to what it considers normal. And of course the female heroine who has to save the new world from the same fate as the previous one!
Another couple of IC books I find similarities in are Alyzon Whitestarr and The Gathering. The group of friends trying to save the world from a darkness no-one else can see.

The two IC book/series I have noticed the most simarlarities between are the Legendsong series and Alyzon Whitestarr. This is particularly evident in the 'darkness taking over the world' theme. Substitute Chaos for the wrongness or sickness in AW, and the plots could almost be happening simultaneously. This works particularly well if you assume that Aron Rayc's 'nothingness' is pure indifference.

When I first read the Obernewtyn Series, I thought it was a continuation of Scatterlings... then I realised Scatterlings was a stand-alone book. I wish she'd do something more with it :/
I am noticing, now that I've started reading the Legendsong series that she does tend to use the same themes a lot... not that it's a bad thing. It makes you think.
It also makes me wonder what the books mean to IC.
I always wondered if possibly Scatterlings could be based in the same world as Ober Chrons?? Maybe on the other side of the planet. I mean it could be possible, maybe their mental abilities evolved slower or something?? I dont know I just love having awesome little theories that probs make no sense to anyone else lol
