Hello everybody, I would first like to state that this is my first Post here in this forum, so I'm eager to get feedback from you fellow writers out there. I'm working on this book of which I've titled: The HALON Chronicles, its a Science Fantasy, based on a world dominated by a fascist regime, this particular episode of the book is called "Age of the Assasins". I'm going to share with you a taste of my books first few chapters over time and I hope to eventually to publish it, please do not steal my work as I've been working on this story idea for over two years now and its a slow process.
Prologue
A FABLE UNFOLDS
My name is Ezekiel Frost, and this story begins in the year 2509AD almost 17 years before I was born. A wealthy man named Garmond Lannon came into opposition as a political rival against The United States of Providence. Lannon’s political party was an extremist faction known as “One World Nation†(OWN) and with this political party came its religious affiliate “The Living Orderâ€Â. They’re political ethics and notions were based upon religious ideals of genetic cleansing and world unification, something which had never occurred in the history of our kind.
Lannon’s public appeal was amazing and the people of the USP were fast warming to his governmental ideals. But after information was publicly unearthed in a political scandal nearing the nation’s election, Lannon and his political party were thrown out of parliament and several of his cabinet members arrested for high treason and conspiracy to crimes against humankind. Somehow Lannon had been aquitted of all charges and the blame was shifted to his cabinet members – allowing Lannon to walk away free.
Bitter and enraged of his political upheaval he went underground for several years and later resurfaced with a guerrilla army of which he kept by the same name as his political party (OWN). In retribution for his severance of power OWN simultaneously executed terrorist attacks on key economic capitals of the United States of Providence causing the collapse of the countries economy, which was shortly followed by the demise of our Democratic Society. The result - a war broke out and two years later the Democracy was overthrown. OWN took over swiftly and with precision, catching the Nations leaders and defence forces completely unprepared. The political system as we knew it quickly crumbled, and One World Nation’s “New Order†was put into place.
It has been for forty years that the United States of Providence has been ruled by Garmond Lannon under a severe dictatorship, and by my ninth birthday Lannon’s regime had captured over 57% of the continent, which including The United States of Providence (now known as The Former USP), and three other of the largest countries on the continent: Alandris, Trimmin, and Karndon. Lannon’s erratic faction now had a third of the world’s population under its wing and was fast working towards total world domination.
It was the year 2534C.E. on my ninth birthday that my parents and older sister got involved in a covert underground operation set up by rebels who had fled to Lachish (a neutral country on the border south of Trimmin and neighbour to Hadesia). The Hadesian rebels had been established shortly after the war began.
In an effort to prevent his country from being overthrown, Hadesian Emperor Hadrian Alcohps lead a band of Heretics (opposers of the New Order), in a fight against Lannon’s army. After several years of battling against OWN, Hadesia was overthrown and Hadrian and his band of rebels fled to Lachish where he established a new band of rebels in an effort to bring down Lannon’s regime. His focus had now changed from frontal assault to espionage and assassination. His plan was then to infiltrate and sabotage OWN’s governmental structure. This was where my family came into the picture, my father – Aden Frost – one of the few left of the original Heretics was sent to The Former USP where he met my mother – Camille Roedenz – during a mission to recruit new rebels and receive into there ranks a new rebel leader. After safely retrieving the new rebels and bringing them back into Lachish my parents were sent into the heart of OWN territory on a mission to gather information on Lannon’s top Henchmen and sabotage what they could to assist the Rebel Cause. Working as double agents along with other Hadesian Heretic rebels they managed to creep there way up the hierarchy to get close to Garmond and his main henchmen.
My father became a General in Lannon’s Elite Task Forces Unit and this allowed him access to all areas of Lannon’s parliamentary estate and defensive forces, whilst my mother Camille worked as Bourgosh Heingert’s personal assistant (Lannon’s number one ally). My parents stuck with Lannon for nineteen years providing information and executing plans for sabotage amongst Lannon’s minions and that’s where they raised us, in the heart of The New Order.
Our family became well established in Lannon’s idealistic society and in time contact between the rebels and my parents became scant. An uprival had occurred between the rebellion and an attack occurred on Hadrian and his rebel hideout. The last report my father had heard was that Hadrian had been betrayed by one of the other rebel leaders in a power struggle between the Southern and the Eastern Rebels and Hadrian had been murdered along with his entire family. A new young rebel leader - Caspian Geerdar had stepped into place with brute force to rule by.
My parents along with there colleagues on the inside had collected nearly all the information they needed to undermine Lannon’s regime, but when Caspian took over the Rebellion our family was cut loose and considered a threat to the Rebellion Cause. Caspian had plans of his own and sent a tactical retrieval team for my family in the dark of the night. While we were sleeping our family was attacked and our house burnt down by Caspian’s people, I had managed to escape with the help of my sister she had hidden me in a safe place and told me to guard the information our parents had collected with my life. I don’t know what happened to Caytlin after that. Whether she was captured and killed I do not know, all I know is what I heard – the screams of my sister and gunshots from several machine guns and the sound of bullet shells falling to the pavement. I hid until the next morning afraid to come out from my hiding place scared that Caspian’s men would still be waiting for me; it wasn’t until my mother’s chauffer arrived at the scene and alerted the authorities of what had happened to my family that I felt safe enough to come out of hiding. When I emerged the scene was surrounded by Lannon’s personal guard, fire trucks and ambulances all about. The scene was overwhelming, I saw the paramedics emerge from the ashes of my home with two charred bodies of which I could barely identify, but somehow I knew the bodies to be my parents. Then out of nowhere, one of the guards came and took me away.
That was the last I ever heard of my sister, after a single pitiful attempt at a rescue missions the search for Caytlin ended. Lannon had bigger fish to fry, and as far as he cared Caytlin was dead along with my parents. All Lannon had in mind was how the “Heretics†were going to pay for the damage they caused to his pristine society. Like a car wreck my family was ridden off as casualties to the Rebellion cause, and I was shipped off to a refugee colony on the outskirts of Pendaar, a city-state of the Former United States of Providence. Orphaned and alone there I came into contact with a skilled mercenary. He took me under his wing and taught me the tricks of his trade and for the last ten years I’ve spent my time as a freelance mercenary working for the highest bidder, I had over time managed to focus all the rage and hate I felt towards Lannon and Caspian for the pain they had caused me and my family – to the individual task at hand.
It was Caspian’s fault my family was dead, and it was Lannon who couldn’t be bothered to avenge my family’s death. I was dumped and left to die with all the other casualties of war. I felt no pity for society nor passion enough to take a side. I had become hardened and embittered over time and nothing could take that away from me. I then and there vowed a day to get my revenge and end the bloodshed that no other might go through the pain and trauma I experienced as a child…
