I saw the trailer for Ashes to Ashes last night!
I looks superb!
The trailer said coming soon, so as soon as I have any more info i'll post it here

I've been hanging out for this to start!! It doesn't have John Simm in it this time though, does it? Oooh, I can't wait. Life on Mars was just brilliant.
Found out this morning that it starts on BBC1 at 9pm GMT on Thursday 7th February
Nope, no John Simm this time, though Phillip Glennister is back as Gene Hunt!
YES! Thanks for the info Dark One! I can't wait. Its set in the 80s this time, isn't it?
It is indeed. I think its set in the early 80's (like 1981/82 or something like that)
I don't think the second series of life on mars has aired in Australia - they've just repeated the first series, so I think we're going to get it soon...
If yhou haven't seen it yet then you're in for a treat!
So, what's the deal with Ashes to Ashes? Are there two series of Life on Mars, we haven't see series 2 yet if there are, and then it's basically the same idea with a different guy in a different time with Ashes to Ashes?
There are two seasons of Life On Mars, and Ashes to Ashes is the sequal series, set in 1981 (i think), with most of the original cast. This time though the lead character is a woman, who was aparently the police psycologist who spoke to Sam and knows who Gene Hunt is.i can't say anymore without giving loads of stuff away
So did anyone else manage to watch it?
What a superb opening episode!
When we are introduced to Alex Drake she's been called to a hostage situation whilst transporting her daughter to school. They were some really intense scenes so early on, and they kept the pace going throughout! It was great to see Gene Hunt again too
They give us some snippets of what happened to Sam Tyler. In the real world he never came out of his coma, in the 'other' world he died whilst chasing an armed robber, and ended up driving his car into a river. his body was never found...
The only thing i didn't quite get; if the whole thing is a product of Alex's subconscious, how did she know the following:
She is talking to Ray Carling about Sam, and Ray says that Sam came back (train robbery bit at the end of LOM). Alex would've spoken to Sam and found out everything about his 'other' world when he awoke from his coma, but she couldn't know anything of this 'other' world after Sam jumped from the roof of the building.
Looks like there are going to be a few mysterys to solve...

Oh yeah, it was brilliant!
I'm glad they haven't totally forgotten Sam, too.
It looks like we're going to find out why people are going back this series (I had been wondering how they were going to do the same again, but keep it fresh). They've done such a brilliant job, having Alex know all about them and where she is straight away because she recognises it from Sam's report - rather than have her go through the same 'where am I and what's going on' that Sam had to go through.
Loved it, can't wait for more of it.
hmm just thought to say for the Aussies (who havent even seen the second series let alone heard there was a third-well thats me anyway) that the second series of life on mars is airing on thurs 14 feb at 8.30 on ABC!!

*squeals with joy* That's tomorrow! It really is an excellent series, isn't it. The need for some sort of conclusion has been gnawing at me since I bought S1 on DVD.
Another great episode of Ashes to Ashes!
And it had a Delorean in it!! Woot! That's my second favourite car in the whole world!
I know, the delorean was perfect!
I'm enjoying the series so much so far. I love how Alex is completely getting on Gene's nerves, because she's just not nervous around him like everyone else. All the little comments she makes about them being creations are priceless.
If only we didn't have to wait so long between episodes :P

Gees I don't like regioned DVD's. If I'm paying for it what does it matter. I'm watching the second season of life on mars now. Got scared when I heard that the US was going to make it's own adaptation. Then when the 2nd season hadn't come out in oz yet I got REALLY scared because I thought they might be waiting for the american version to come out and I would of been left with a rubbish show.
In Australia it was ruled illegal for DVDs and DVD players to be region specific, so all DVD players have to be multi region and will be able to play the British version of the DVD if you buy that.

Thanks for the info Cat-Eyes :). That means I don't have to wait for the mighty boosh either.
It does depend on how old your DVD player is though. Some of the early ones are region specific, but the early cheap ones were mostly multi-region anyway. But yeah, the new ones (last couple of years) will have to be multi region.
Anyway, back to the point of the thread. This weeks episode was very good.
It was a more entertaining episode than the last few, especially with Gene having to wander into a gay bar. He handled the episode with his usualy flair for political correctness ;)
We're still no closer to decifering why Alex is there though. There seems to be less emphasis on this in Ashes to Ashes than in Life on Mars
Ray in the gay bar was even more priceless :D his reactions...hehe...
There was only a slight connection to Alex's past in this ep though...am really looking forward to next week, where it looks like we get to see more about what's really happening to her in the future.
There seems to be such an emphasis on her mother, too. In Life on Mars, there were references, and the appearance of Sam's reles in some of the episodes, but Alex's mum shows up almost every episode...
Maybe she does have to save them? The car explosion seems to occur often. We haven't seen what the clown means yet though
I had the thought that the clown was Death, that's why it kept chasing her. It's similar to the little girl in Life on Mars that kept freaking Sam out.
I don't think she'll save her parents...if what Shaz said right at the beginning was true, that when you die you see all your mistakes flash before your eyes - I think she's just going to learn more about the circumstances surrounding her parent's death, she'll always unfortunately be a bystander to that...but, similar to Sam and his dad leaving, she'll get more understanding of what really went on that'll resolve that issue in her mind...
But I'd be happy to be wrong!
Peter at work thinks that for the third season they should get Gene Hunt and transport him into the now XD
Fantastic penultimate episode!
Shaz dying was a shock! (ok, she came back to life, but was still shocking), and she saw the clown! Min, you may be right about the clown being death
