I think they did vaguely reference it, but nothing outright - more of a nod to those who have read the book, and know the plot. My boy, who hasn't read the books, had no idea about half the stuff going on...
It's not a particularly crucial part though, so it was a nice nod to the fans but everyone else didn't need to know, it's just random clutter. Unless he didn't actually understand the movie, in which case fail.

But I think that's just it - someone who hasn't read the books will be trying to follow all of these threads, without knowing which will be explained, and which will not.
For example - the mirror: it just pops up in the Deathly Hallows movie, having never actually been given to Harry way back in Order of the Phoenix like it should have!
Yeah, the mirror confused me and I've read the books. Didn't it only go to the mirror Sirius had? What on earth was Harry looking at in it all throughout the latest movie?

Cat - yes, the mirror Harry had was linked to the mirror Sirius had. But (spoiler for Deathly Hallows movie part 2), as we find near the end of Deathly Hallows, Aberforth Dumbledore had been given the other mirror, after Sirius' death...
La la la la la la la la la la la....
I did think that it was the news that Tonks was pregnant, I remembered that from the book, I just didn't remember whether we were told in the movies that they had gotten married in the first place. The frustration of a book reader...
With the mirror: I didn't even remember it. Only through rereading some spoilers have I figured out vaguely what it was - it wasn't explained at all!
Also, something I should have mentioned earlier - why didn't Wormtail die? I suppose it may have been because of the whole lead up to Dobby's death, but... oh well.
I finally saw the movie a little while ago, so here are my thoughts...
The scene that affected me the most was when Hermione was tortured by Bellatrix. Maybe it's just that I've never really seen real torture scenes, but I found it so...real. I'm terrible at noticing if someone is a good actor or not, but I think that she played that part really well, her screams were so...painful sounding, it was sad.
Also, as many of you have talked about, the scene with Harry and Ron when they open the locket/horcrux; I think that they exaggerated it a lot. I mean, I thought that it was written as being actually inside the locket, not the images coming out with heaps of smoke and stuff. And I don't think they needed to be naked. I was cringing about that.
I actually really liked how they ended it; as someone mentioned, it was good because it sucked us in and made us want to see what will happen next, in part 2.
And lastly, some people that I talked to who saw it but haven't read the books, they didn't like it, they thought that it dragged on too much and nothing happened. But I think that it was a really accurate portrayal of the book, it didnt skip or change too many things, and as for nothing much happening, that was basically what happened in the book as well, it was supposed to be like that.
^ I cried when Hermione was tortured :( It just really got me lol. The final movie is going to get me. But I can't wait for a really big dvd boxset of the movies to be released, I haven't bought any dvds yet because I figured it'll be better to wait for the set lol.. And they always play them on WIN anyway ;P
