I know that a few people read this manga; and I've just read chapter 8 but I didn't want to double post in the I'm Reading Manga thread. So; anyone read chapter 8 yet?
Yep, I've read chapter 8. ;D
This manga is becoming more and more confusing (and consequently more and more interesting ;P ).
So, was that the real Alice? Or was it just a regret that the Duke had swallowed? I don't know...
And I find all of the references to a book (not wanting to be just a scrapped piece of paper, etc.) really interesting. It seems like there's an author who is essentially controlling the story. And it seemed to me that Guy!Alice didn't really want to shoot that girl, but that he was compelled to by some mysterious force (ie the Author). So maybe what we saw was only one of many possible endings?
And in the original story, Marianne was the White Rabit's maid. (And Alice was mistaken for Marianne, so it makes sense that they would look identical). But it seems like in the manga, Marianne is the White Rabbit's 'mistress', or something. And he's trying to find the Real!Alice so that he can produce a story where Marianne doesn't die? I wonder how finding the Real Alice would save Marianne...
Also, it seems like the White Rabbit is quite literally running out of time. Maybe he's connected in some way to Marianne, so that he can't survive without her?
Oh, and do you think that girl was the Real Alice, Alice's older sister, or just a memory/regret/possibility?
Anyway, I'm really loving this manga so far. I'm loving all of the symbolism and hidden meanings.
I'm a bit confused about everything to be honest; so I might go and read it again. Then I'm kind of inclined to think that she was the older sister; deluded into thinking that she was the Real Alice. I might actually go and reread the book as well...
