This thread has not been authorized at all but please don't kill it on meeeeeeeeee D=
I just today found what i assume is the last book in Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games series.
I'm loving it so far, i haven't finished it yet but i will soon and would like to talk about it to other HG fans... if any :D
Will we ever get Peeta back?
does president Snow die? (I HOPE SO :D)
Does Katniss and her family survive the rebellion?
Who will win, the council or the mockingjay?
Peeta or Gale?
Will Marley ever stop asking questions?
All will be answered in this last installment.

:O Do you have it? My angus and robertson won't have it until the 2nd of September but I have it on pre-order. I should probably re-read the other two before I get the new one.
So, I'm going to stay clear of this thread until I've read it, spoilers are evil :P
But the first two books were great, surprising since I don't usually like that style of writing. [act]Fingers crossed[/act] the ending will be good.
*Averts Eyes* I bought it the day it came out but I haven't read it yet 'cause I'm midway through half a dozen other books right now. I'm pretty excited though.
yeah i have it. i love it so much. the end is actually the best ending to a book i've read yet. and read a lot
Alyse, my only advice for you is to read it. now. and then come back to this thread :)
I was really quite disappointed by Mockingjay, I'm afraid. :(
M - don't worry the threads don't have to be authorised to be started :) so long as its on topic and a reasonable post (as opposed to opening a thread and posting 1 sentence :P )

I have to admit that I didn't like this one as much as the first two. There were some good bits the 'hanging tree' song, how Suzanne handled the underground '13' and even the Peeta gone crazy thing was done okay. but it was a bit disappointing that Katniss was pretty much depressed or out of it for the whole book. I also get it that Suzanne wanted to tie up all of the loose ends, but the way she did some of it just seems rushed or pointless (eg. how she killed off some of the other winners whilst in the Capitol, especially the one who just got married). Also, having Prim blown up just makes the whole series pointless, the beginning was for Katniss to protect her and in the end, she's unsuccessful anyway.
I read this one a bit too fast but once I've read the whole series again I'll have more to say :)
yeah i agree with you elspethinnle i cannot believe that she killed off so many great characters like finnick, prim (i also liked boggs eventhough you didn't really get to know him)
Oh no - I am sort of scared to read your posts so far coz I am number 18 on the holds list at my city council library! I really can't wait to read this though...
Ok well despite my best intentions, I might have glanced at the non-spoilered bits and it seems the reaction is one of disappointment on the whole. Oh! :-/
YOU GOT IT? :O I haven't read it but I kinda spoiled it for myself cos I looked it up on wikipedia and it had a summary. |:( But I'm going to get it tonight if I can.
I really liked the end, but only 'cos it was the ending I wanted :D
I guess the million dollar question is whether I want it to end up the way you wanted it to then, Marsie! ~:|
i totally agree with elspethinnle. i got the book really quickly because my mums a librarian and we pre ordered it but it was so dissapointing. it was written like she had a small word limit and too much to say. there totally wasnt enough discussion on Snow and Coin and why she ended up killing Coin. i would reallly like to know what happened after the rebellion, with the whole capitol and district thing, but we only get told that 12 got rebuilt and she and peeta had kids. the first two were really good and i suppose the story line was decent enough for the third, just needed more depth

I haven't read it fully. I'm halfway through mockingjay and I'm loving it so far. Unfortunately, I'm a very impatient person. So I took a little peek at the end of the book. It didn't really give away a lot of stuff, so I looked here. These are my reactions:
o_O ;P X:-/ :-? :-| :D :-X ":( :"( ;D ~:| (L)
Even if there was some... shocking moments, it was still good.
i was kind of disappointed with the ending. i didn't like the fact that finnick died and also the epilouge. it reminded me of the 17 years later in harry potter. not needed. but i did like peeta going insane, her ending up with peeta and the fact that Prim died. i liked the idea that everything she had done was to save Prim and in the end it was all worthless, like some things that actually happen in life.
not as good as the first 2 books though.
but still better than alot out there.
So, I was going to read this book after all of my friends discussing it and saying how good it is but after reading your comments above I don't think I'll bother. I might just read the first two books in the series if they are really good then discuss my thoughts about them.
I thought it was good for what it was - a book about how truly ugly and unromantic war is and the stark reality of post traumatic stress disorder. Unfortunately I don't think it was the sort of book needed to complete that trilogy. Sure, a theme of the series has been the grim reality of death and war, but the previous books had hope, even sweetness, and that was almost entirely lacking from this one (an exception being the 'Hanging Tree scene, which was lovely). I thought this would be the book where Katniss stopped being a pawn of others and find her own autonomy and agenda. Instead she was a traumatised mess for most of the book, still a pawn of the rebels, and even the act of killing Coin was partly caused by how fragile and on the edge she was at that point.
I don't like stories where multiple characters are killed off to prove a point - this is really big and serious and dangerous! - it annoyed me about the last Harry Potter and Serenity, among other things.
I didn't mind Peeta's break down so much, depressing and horrible as it was. I quite liked the way stopped seeing Katniss through rose coloured glasses, but was in love with her anyway.
I found the ending frustrating. I didn't need Katniss to be the hero and save the world as in your stereotypical fantasy story, but I wanted more involvement, needed to see how it all ended. I'd emotionally invested in the world as well as the characters, and having everything glossed over so easily was deeply frustrating. I also would have liked the very ending - when she's back in District 12 - taken more slowly. After the trauma that was Mockingjay it would have been nice to have seen the romance with Peeta played out gradually, rather than summed up in one or two paragraphs. Hearing that they turned to one another in mutual need was... not depressing exactly, but bittersweet.
I feel somewhat guilty for ranting like this, and I respect the right of the author to tell a story her way, but I needed to express my disappointment somehow.
i think we're just a little disappointed about not as much romance as the first two, i think that's what Mockingjay needed, more depth into the romance.
In The Hunger Games Peeta was all "i LOOOVE YOU!" and that was again in Catching Fire but in this book there wasn't as much and that was my main disappointment.
ShadowHunter, can you please spoiler your post because I really didn't want to have that particular piece of information given away before reading :-/
Okay; well I finished it now and I am cranky for the following things;
-Finnick's death. I loved Finnick!
-Katniss's final choice & the reasons for it. I agree that the romance could have been played out a lot better.
-Katniss & Gale; and subsequently; Gale's survival. He should have died instead of Finnick.
I'm confused about the following;
Effie Trinket... ??????
Well that's the question.
Yeah, what ever happened to Effie?
Oh, and sorry Laurenm 89! I'm kinda new, so I don't exactly know how to do that yet. So instead, I edited my post.
Sorry! :-?
I assumed that Effie had been killed in the previous book and I'd simply forgotten. After all, she wasn't nearly as awesome and memorable a character as Cinna. I'm guessing I was wrong here...
