I was trying to decide whether to track down a couple of books that were read to my grade 5 and 6 class back in Primary school.
I've been wanting to re-read them and see if what I remember of them is acurate. My problem however, is to obtain them I will have to actually buy them, and I don't want to waste my money if it turns out I hate them.
They were written for a younger audience, but has anyone here read any of the Wicked! Series by Paul Jennings and Morris Gleitzman?
OR
The Tower of Geburah by John White?
And what did you think of them?
I know as a [act]does math[/act] 10-11 year old I enjoyed those books, but I'm not sure how I will go as a 23 year old :P
Opinions would be appreciated :)

I read the first book of Wicked. In fact, I still have it on my shelf ;P
I don't think I can offer much in the way of an opinion on its content, as I know it's been forever since I've read it...
The schools I went to seemed to have hit-and-miss English/reading programs. I can remember being read February Dragon by Colin Thiele in grade one at one school, yet at high school, our set readings were more designed for 9-10 year olds than year 8 students (for example: 45 + 47 Stella Street and Everything That Happened by Elizabeth Honey), and varying results at schools attended in between...
Does your local library not have these books in circulation anymore? 'Cause that would save you having to buy them :D
I seem to remember having all the Wicked! books read to us in primary school by my teacher, or maybe I went and read some of them myself. There were funny slug things, weren't there? Haven't read them since I was a kid, but I think we may actually own them in a compilation book.
I read Z for Zachariah in grade 6 in the extended reading program, and was actually thinking about it the other day. I also remember reading a book called something like "Tomorrow is another day" but I have no idea who wrote it. It was about a girl who gets stuck in her house after a landslide or earthquake or something.
In year 7 we got to pick from three books (although it was sort of allocated, there was the easy, the moderate and the hard). I can't remember what the easy one was, but I remember that the moderate was Bridge to Terabithia and hard was Angel's Gate (which I read). In year 8 we had to read a horrible book called Bridge to Wiseman's Cove, I was bored out of my mind, but we also read The Giver which was quite good. My teacher gave me The Handmaid's Tale to compare to The Giver, that was exciting (he told me it had been on the year 12 reading list, so I was really excited). Man I loved my year 8 english teacher, and then he left the school! So I never got any extension books and so on after that.
I want to re-read Thing and Thingnapped to re-read - they were favourites in primary school. I think they were by robyn klein ...
i read Dragon Keeper by carole wilkinson and Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda in year six and i really enjoyed the. I should reread them.
Ari - my group of libraries still has 13 copies of the 6-book compilation Wicked! in circulation, so they should have it. I can also search all Victorian libraries through their website, and they'll get a book from any other library for me free. I've done that for a couple of books I wanted for essays.
Oh! Rowan of Rin!! ;D
God I loved those books! Besides Harry Potter, they are what re-sparked my interest in books!! A re-read is definitely in order ::)
I've been rereading the Rowan of Rin books recently too, although I mostly prefered her Deltora Quest series.
In year 5, my teacher read Dragonkeeper to the class. We all loved it and whenever I read any of that series now I hear her pronounciation and inflections.
