I thought I'd give an update on this on the off chance than anyone's interested - also 'cos I find recent events amusing.
So both shows aired their last episodes last Sunday morning (Aus time) and the ratings were such that YJ had
the highest ratings for CN for that week. And, as a bonus, GLTAS came in fifth. This doesn't look like it's changed anything in and of itself, but at least we get to look at them like "O RLY?" when they tell us the shows just aren't popular enough.
Like, I believe them when they say it wasn't making them enough money. But given that these shows were marketed towards
children, meaning all of the merchandise was for children and the demographic of the show is 15-24 year olds ( I conducted a survey, I have the data :P ) you can kind of see why they weren't making enough off merchandise.
Seriously, YJ was airing at 10 am on a Saturday morning. 15-24 year olds are notorious for not getting out of bed till noon on a Saturday come hell or high water. Anyone can stay up all night for a show, but a show that convinces people in our age bracket to get out of bed? Now
that indicates quality :P
Anyway, there's a website that recently went live in Beta mode that's designed to act a little like Kickstarter, but specifically for bringing back cancelled TV shows. It's also different in that the website will act as the broadcaster, uploading episodes to its site and broadcasting adds to non-backers. And they make their money from those advertisements, not from taking a cut of what the backers pay, which is pretty cool and should help make it easier to raise the necessary funds.
We may have...um..crashed their site in our enthusiasm. ~:|

Well, it was technically GLTAS that did it, but yj helped!

We know it was us because it happened within about an hour or so of when they got permission from Warner Brothers for the crowd sourcing project. A few people had voted prior to then, but we'd been heavily advised by the show's producers when we were looking at a kickstarter to not do
anything without WB's permission, so :-/
The site's been shut down to non staff or media users till the end of March so they can upgrade it to deal with higher traffic. I feel kind of bad about our role in crashing the site, but it's not like we
tried to make it happen :-/ . It also makes me feel a bit glowy because it makes it seem like there should definitely be enough support to get the shows another season :rolling:
Not to mention, better we crash it during Beta than it crashing when the site's online for realzies.
