Just thought I might share a couple of my poems here too.
I wander through my mind
Like a long lost child.
The little girl that I was so long ago.
Crying out wordlessly for a hand to hold.
Desperately wanting to feel safe.
To feel loved.
Lonely!
I am so lonely.
Where has my life gone?
Where is it going?
Why is there no-one here with me?
Alone!
No real thoughts.
No real memories.
Just a jumbled up mess.
Misery and grief.
So many gone.
Those still here also gone.
Gone away from me.
Left me alone.
Sweet darkness comes.
Cover my mind.
Blanket my soul.
Preserve my heart.
I sleep.
and a really soppy one I wrote for my dad.
DAD.
When I asked you what you wanted
For a birthday gift this year
You said you wanted nothing but
The love you hold so dear
But when I sat and thought about
Just what you mean to me
I really had to give you more
As you will surely see
The love is yours, will always be
But hugs and kisses too
Are but a few of many things
That I can give to you
My life would not be what it is
Without the things you’ve done
So I will also give you thanks
For happiness and fun
My gratitude I give to you
For raising me so well
For being there to pick me up
Every time I fell
And so I wish you peace and joy
On this your special day
And thank you for your love for me
That none can take away

Thanks Ari and MK here are a couple more.
Living in the dark before the dawn.
I am living in the dark before the dawn
My spirit cries out for the light
I am lost on this dark lonely path
I am living in the dark before the dawn
Slowly the sky lightens
Just enough for me to see a little way ahead
To see the path dimly before my feet
I am living in the dark before the dawn
A little time goes by
I hear the sound of birds singing
Welcoming the dawning of a new day
I am living in the dark before the dawn
The dark dispels into a beautiful sunrise
I was living in the dark before the dawn
In the deep dark winter of my life
Now comes spring and the light
Claws grip at my sanity.
Tearing away my sense of self.
Who am I?
Where do I belong?
The deep dark depths of the abyss call louder and louder to a mind on the brink.
Will I follow?
Will I fall?
Like vultures circling, my thoughts go round and round; nearing the deadness inside me.
I walk and talk and do, but I feel nothing!
Closer now; the walls draw nearer, making a tiny coffin shaped space around my mind. Am I going crazy?
Have I already gone?
To many worries.
Too many thoughts chasing themselves around my head.
How, when, why?
Oh God, why?
Oblivion comes closer.
More blessed with every nearing movement.
Come to me!
Come cover me!
Ease the torment and the pain.
Bring me home where I can finally be at rest

Thanks Ari, I really like your work too and would love to see more of it. cheers
Hi, I hope you don't mind my giving some feedback. I really liked the Dark Before the Dawn poem - the repetition of that one phrase was effective, and I loved the hope and new beginning of the end.
Your poem to your dad was so sweet...but as well as that, had a great rhythm and flow to it. I'd like to read more of your work. :)

thank you Firefall. I love getting feedback and yours is very welcome. I have a lot of poetry dedicated to my daughter that I will have a look through and post here. cheers
That would be great. Your poem to your father was so heartfelt, something written by a mother for her daughter would be lovely to read.

I don't know if these qualify as lovely, but they werewritten from the heart. I will understand completely if people don't want to read them. cheers
Melissa's song.
How do I say goodbye.
I had you for such a short time
And I want you to always be mine
You brought Joy with you like a gift
And by all who loved you are missed
You were only ten when the Lord called you home
Leaving me crying here all alone
I guess you are happy in heaven so high
But how can I say goodbye.
How can I say goodbye to a child
I carried inside me and loved all the while
Who brought so much love to all that she knew
How can I say goodbye to you.
I wish you were here still safe in my arms
I'll love you forever so great were your charms
May God hold you close in His place in the sky
How can I say goodbye
I could hold you close and hear you say
"I love you Mummy" every day
In my arms you would never cry
How do I say goodbye.
I love you, I miss you, I will always keep you alive in my heart
The memories we made will never fade.
The love we shared will live on forever.
Still it's hard to face each day without you, your smiling face,
your happy nature, your love for all God's creatures.
How do you say goodbye.

Melissa's song 5
My Melissa how I miss you
Each and every day
Your smile, your laugh, your pretty face
Your funny little ways
You never brushed your hair or wore
Your shoes upon your feet
But with the love you gave to all
You made my life complete
So part of me is missing now
I don' know what to do
I don't know how to fill the space
Left in my heart by you
The way your eyes lit up with love
For horses cats and bears
I even miss the fighting
The yelling and the tears
As each day ends I say goodnight
The way I always do
And pray my love will fly on up
To heaven straight to you

Those two poems are trully beautiful Deb.
You write with an easy flow that i ove to read.
I can feel both your love and grief in both poems (and though i have never lost a child, i know the pain of loss) and connected with both of them deeply.
Cheers

this is something I dreamed my daughter saying to me.
Remember
Remember me as I remember you
Love me as I will always love you
Miss me as I will surely miss you
Take strength and peace from God who will willingly give them to you
Stay safe and happy until it is your turn to make this great journey.
Rejoice in life and in love as you know I would want you to.
Remember me.

The bush
Walking through he bush
Softly, gently
Eyes taking in the wondrous landscape
Focusing on the wind
Whispering through the trees
Rustling the leaves
Softly, gently
The scent of the eucalypts
Those mighty soldiers of the bush
Aromatic, pungent
The clean smell of the earth
Far away from the noise and smog
A gift from God for soul’s peace
Softly, gently

i like these.. your pretty alright =)
Thanks so much for posting these here, Deb. I'm sure you cherish each word we say here, because these poems are so close to your heart. They're truly beautiful, full of such a mixture of grief and hope... I'm glad there's still hope, after all you have been through.
"Closer now; the walls draw nearer, making a tiny coffin shaped space around my mind. Am I going crazy?"
No, of course not... But I really liked this image - by that I mean it really captures so many emotions and is such a graphic image.
I also loved the poems for Melissa. How do you say goodbye? I think you have answered your own question in your poems... you will never have to.
"I love you, I miss you, I will always keep you alive in my heart
The memories we made will never fade.
The love we shared will live on forever."

Goodnight Baby Girl
Because I love you Baby Girl
I can never say goodbye
But I can be so glad to know
You have the chance to fly
With the angels up in heaven
Who will take you by the hand
And lead you in a special dance
So far above the land
You’ll soar through clouds of pearly white
Maybe touch a gleaming star
While we down here remember you
The special girl you are
Even though we are now parted
It’s not that hard to see
You’ll always be my Baby Girl
God’s precious gift to me
I know someday I’ll see once more
Your pretty little smile
And though it may be many years
It will seem but a while
Because I love you Baby Girl
I can never say goodbye
The love still lives within my heart
So I’ll just say goodnight.
Mummy.

I grow weary
My footsteps stop
I look around
No one is there
So tired
It looms closer
The abyss
The dark maw opening wider
Coming to swallow me up
A gentle hand touches mine
The Lord come to lead me
Energy flows
Weakness turns to strength
The grey sky lightens to blue
I am myself once more
The presence of the Lord surrounds me
Lifts me high
On angel wings
Sends me soaring above
All the troubles
All the worries of this life
Falling away
Taking my broken heart
Making it whole
For a day
A week
A year
A lifetime
I am grateful
I bask in His glory
Amen

Peaceful, calm, serene
The wonderful bushland scene
Waddling little echidnas
Bouncing kangaroos
Pretty parrots and squawking cockatoos
Orchids in the garden
Clouds fly through the sky
The laugh of kookaburras in the distance
God’s country
White clouds drift across a blue sky
The wind whispers in the trees
The lovely fragrance of spring blossoms
The sweet taste of rain on your lips
The soft caress of a gentle breeze
The wonders of nature abound
Filling my senses with life
The sights and sounds
The smells and tastes and touch of love
The perfect showing of the perfect Creator

Melissa's song 2
When I see a rainbow I will always think of you
And any little kitten will remind me of you too.
And horses of all kinds will always bring me tears
No matter when or where in the passing of the years.
Teddy bears and unicorns for your sake I will love
And know you're watching over me from heaven up above.
Making sure that I am safe and taking lots of care
Of all the precious memories and your favorite teddy bear.
I will remember every day to say good night to you
And know that safe in Gods sweet care you wish me good night too.
And in the morning hope that I can make it through the day
Knowing that you're really not all that far away.
I only wish that I could hold you in my arms so tight
But I can only pray for you and pray that God was right.
To take you while you were so young is very hard for me
But the Lord has done his will and what must be will be.
My love for you will never fade but grow on through the years
And I will learn to face my life with peace as well as tears.
My Lord will help along the way to take away the pain
Then sometime in the future I will see you once again.
I guess I'm really lucky that I had you for so long
To not have had your love at all would be so very wrong.
So now I lay me down to sleep it's time to say good night
And pray the Lord my soul to keep until the time is right.

Thanks Ari and Hannai. It's strange to think that Melissa would be as old if not older than a lot of the people who hang around this site (she would be 15 now) and sharing her with other people is always a blessing though it can be very hard as well. I love sharing my poetry the only bad thing for me at the moment is not being able to write anything at all. I literally struggle to write anything original in a birthday card, lol. will go through some more of my poems and post them soon. Thanks again, the support means the world to me, you really can't realise just how much. Cheers
