I'm not sure what you read, but it's really not gruesome at all - sure there are some fights and battles, but there's no graphic descriptions of injuries or anything. :)VioletCrumble
I read about this today. Sounds pretty gruesome but interesting.
The book must've been really crap then. I saw the movie tonight not knowing anything about it in advance except what I saw in a trailer the other day. I liked it, but really there's no way I could give it more than six out of ten (if that).Zieria
I saw the movie after work last week (Hoyts was doing previews), and I have to say I really enjoyed it! I thought they did a great job and - this is INCREDIBLY unusual for me to say - but it was much much better than the book.
Yes, yes I am. (Can't believe I just said that! :P) Just don't expect anything Oscar-worthy, all drama and serious messages. It's good, fairly mindless fun!!cateyes
So, you're saying ditch the book and just go watch the movie?
Haha, well, I guess I should have added the disclaimer that I actually happen to like Transformers. |:| I thought this was better, though. And I certainly never said it was high-class thought-provoking entertainment! :PSo let me get this straight, it was a good Michael Bay movie- surely there is some kind of universal law against that :)

If you read my post about the book, you'll see that I never said the book was amazing or anything. Basically I said I really enjoyed it, but that it had quite a few flaws. (That said, "really crap" would be Breaking Dawn, not this. It's nowhere near THAT bad.)The book must've been really crap then. ...The plot was hardly original.

I don't know which ad I saw, but I was expecting more action sequences than there actually were, and less of the angsty boy-girl stuff. I don't usually expect food for thought from action movies, so that wasn't a problem. To be clearer, I didn't dislike the movie, I was just a bit disappointed that it wasn't as good as I expected.Zieria
I'm guessing you didn't see the longer ad with the action sequences, or you would've expected more explosions and action-y stuff. So yes, its intention is to provide entertainment, not food for thought. And as far as I'm concerned, it did its job rather well.
The book and movie were different enough that I found the film quite suspenseful too, despite having read the book, so that was fun. ;D Number 6 is Australian - or at least, the actress is. The character of 6 is supposed to have travelled around the world a lot, so I guess her accent could be more open. The boy who played Sam is Australian too, although he hid his accent very well.jossie
Even though I bought the book a while ago, I never had time to read it, but was super excited when the movie came out this week! My sister also works Gold Class, so it was a free ticket only paying for food at half price!
I have to say I did enjoy it. It was interesting and had a lot of suspense. I nearly cried when I thought the dog was dead! For most of the movie I was on the edge of my seat.
It did remind me a little of Roswell - but really, everything out there is hardly completely original - AND ANYWAY, I love Roswell, so it follows that I really enjoyed this too! I enjoyed it because I thought there was less angsty boy-girl stuff (like in Roswell), but that it was action, and was interesting to see where the story took us.
As for Sarah: I'm not sure the actress made the character, I still was kinda seeing Quinn from Glee!! I also expected her to follow No. 4, but it's better I guess she didn't because she shouldn't have to leave everything for him.
General questions I had:
Is No. 6 Australian??
Is there going to be a sequel to the movie? Where the movie ends, is that where the book ends also? Or will there be a second book?
I really liked Number 6 too - she was pretty darn awesome - and I thought that Number Four was really good as well. He was actually smarter than in the book, and more of a smart alec teenager. It worked well. I wasn't as bothered by Henri's death as I thought I would be. I think he was too argumentative in the book, he seemed more considerate of Number Four in the book.I really enjoyed the movie, and it definitely left me wanting to see another movie. I really liked the actors that played John and Six. I could definitely feel John's angst, and Six is just awesome.

I will say that when Henri died I was more or less feeling "meh." Normally I'd be really upset when this type of character dies, but I was pretty indifferent in this case.
A question for those of you who have read the book--were the 9 sent to Earth babies on Lorien and sent to Earth as babies to live and grow-up as humans?
And what the heck is in the glowing box?!!
