Thanks for the link Cat - now to find the time to listen to it.
I think that photo must be from Children in Need given that they're multicoloured polka dot boxers. Gutted I missed that bit when I was watching it now.
Very excited there will be more Torchwood, but it will be interesting to see how they do it. Still not forgiven the Ianto incident yet [act]huggles Ianto[/act].

I bought the first season of Torchwood a few days ago, and my viewings since then have been the first I've seen of it, so I guess I'm a bit behind everyone. I'm just going to post without reading anything, then I'll go back and have a squiz so I know what's going on.
Firstly, holy cow! This show is certainly not Doctor Who. I mean, I wasn't expecting it be very similar, after all that would be rather boring for RTDavies, but it's so much darker. The issues it deals with and th way the team handles them definately makes you think.
I was a disappointed with the first episode, just because it was a little obvious who the murderer was. Then the second episode about the alien who lives off orgasmic energy, well that was just plain weird. I'm glad I stuck with it though, because the later episodes are much better. After buying it for the price I did, I'd be insane not to stick with it!
I did find "Countrycide" absolutely horrifying. It was like a short horror film, and horror is not exactly my cup of tea. I once tried watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre with some of my friends, but I fled halfway through and resorted to reading Dolly magazines in my friends room to keep my mind from going insane. Now whenever anyone mentions wanting to watch a horror film, I start running. I guess I found this episode so terrible because all along I was waiting to find out what kind of alien was responsible, but in the end it was just a bunch of humans.
I've got four episodes left and I have no idea what to expect in the final.
Edit: How many seasons of Torchwood have been made so far? I would try to look it up, but my computer's favourite past time is misbehaving.

There is series two, which is a full series and then series three which is a five part 'special'. Have your tissues on hand with both of those.
I found the first season a bit hit and miss, some episodes I loved and others I found a bit boring. While I was watching the second season I rewatched the first and loved them all, I guess it helps to have a greater love for the characters. The second and third seasons are better though, stick with it!
(As Deb said season 3 isn't so much a season but just 5 specials. It's called Torchwood: Children of the Earth)

I just watched the last four episodes, and I think the last episode was a little bit strange. It was all going well and I was fully intrigued, then some massive devilish creature turns up and walks all over Cardiff. It was good, and I did enjoy it, but come on!
Despite that, I think I'll order in the second season. I saw Children of Earth in the shop when I got the first season, so maybe if I nab that now I won't have to wait for it later.
I'm with deb and Cat on finding the first season hit-and-miss, but absolutely loving the second series. And Children Of Earth; I think it was the best yet.
I agree, Countrycide was one of the most horrifying episodes, ever. And creepy.

Torchwood/Doctor Who connection that I only just realised but you probably all noticed years ago - Toshiko's the pathologist women who looks at the pig alien thing in the first episode with the Slytheen in season one! What a revelation! :P
Actually, I never noticed that...
Spoiler for somewhere in season 2, the ep where you find out their backstories
She would've already had to have been working for Torchwood then, wouldn't she? I can't remember how long she'd worked there, and I can't remember how long she was in the lock-up, but I would've thought it was longer than that. Also she was a programmer/engineer before she was in jail. I can't really remember what she did with the pig alien thing, but was she scared and ran away? Maybe it wasn't "Tosh", maybe it was like what they've done a few times (Gwen, Martha) and they get a guest actor they liked back and pretend the other character they were was their cousin (or in Gwen's case, great great aunt or somthing).
[/random musings]
Yep, it was actually the same character Tosh in Dr Who. RTD always said it was her, and there was a lot of speculation on how he would explain it, but then at the end of season 2, in the final scenes with Tosh and Owen talking to each other before their deaths, Owen says something about how she was always covering for him, and she says something about how he was hungover one time and she had to pretend to be a doctor to investigate the "space pig".
... I remember this only because the episode was on ABC2 just last week :D

I've been meaning to ask this for a while, but every time I get online I seem to forget about it. Is the pterodactyl in the hub ever actually explained?
It is, but not until midway through season 2. It's in the backstory episode (clearly because the pterodactyl deserved a backstory too :P)

I finished season two and Children of Earth a few days ago. It was awful, but in an oh so good way.
I can't believe Ianto's dead! That was awful! I expected Tosh and Owen to go (I'd been expecting something to happen in season one, because they weren't in the last Doctor Who episode of season four with Jack, Gwen and Ianto), but Ianto! The whole of Children of Earth was heart wrenching, but that's what I like about it. I like how it's not as idealistic as Doctor Who, and it really asks the hard questions. I felt so sorry for Mr Frobisher' family. In the end, they died for nothing and Mr Frobisher didn't save them from anything. And Jack just left! I doubt I'll ever be in a situation where I have to make decisions like he does, and I'm so thankful for it!
Does that mean that there isn't going to be anymore Torchwood?
Edit: Okay, no need to answer that. I just read the posts on the previous page :P
I'm a bit behind on Torchwood - I'm up to the last episode of Children of Earth. I love it though! Children of Earth is really good, although I already know how it's going to end because I sort of caved and read a few of the spoilers... ~:| It's so sad. :-{
I never really liked Rhys that much - I'm not sure why, because I've recently discovered that he is awesome. :D I think I had a bit of a mental block about him because in the first season there was all that flirty stuff going on between Jack and Gwen, and I kind of wanted them to be a couple... But now that I see that Jack and Ianto are AWESOME and should never ever be broken up for any reason, I actually realise that Rhys is really cool.
Too bad I started liking Ianto and Jack a bit too late... :"( I wish their relationship had played a bigger part in the previous series! Now that they're finally focusing on it, they're just about to take it away from us. (How mean :-{). I think in the previous season I didn't really accept it because it just seemed like something thrown in there. They just mentioned it from time to time but didn't have any real flirting/relationship development. And I also didn't realise Ianto's utter awesomeness as a character, because he'd always been sort of in the background before this... I'd never really paid that much attention to him, and just sort of thought of him as the secretary. But now that he's about to leave, I realise just how cool his character is! I DON'T WANT HIM TO GO! :-{
Anyway, I found 'Countrycide' really creepy as well. ...But it's actually one of my favourite episodes because of that. ;P It's kind of the episode that got me really into Torchwood. (It's because I love thrillers and things like that... ;P ).
I really liked how it was actually humans behind it all along. It made it so much scarier! Because aliens are things that we know aren't real; things that we can fight, and that always have some trick that will allow you to kill them or get rid of them. But it's good to be reminded that humans aren't necessarily the 'good guys' - that we're capable of terrible things, too. Personally I find humans much scarier than aliens or monsters or ghosts.
Anyway, yes, that episode was a lot creepier than all the rest... Still, I liked it. ;P

Rhys is great! I love him! I was so offended in the first season when Gwen was cheating on him with Owen. All that Gwen/Owen nonsense was bad. BAD! So bad I'm getting angry about it now ":( At one stage I was also thinking that Gwen and Jack might be an okay couple, but I'm really glad Gwen has someone who isn't involved in Torchwood. I think it helps keep her sane.
It's going to be weird Gwen having a child, asuming they go ahead with another season. I'd love it if Lois became part of the Torchwood team. She doesn't have much practical experience, but she's a great PA. I wonder if Alonso will turn up.

But- but- there won't be Captain Jack!! Eurgh, I hate it when Americans remake perfectly good shows. I mean, it's fine if it's been decades since the previous one was shown and you're actually going to write a new script (Battlestar Galactica, and hey the Doctor Who people sort of did that too), but when they just put new actors into basically the same script it always ends in tears (Kath & Kim, Worst Week of My Life, Life on Mars). And they're turning Torchwood into CSI!
Although, my one beacon of hope is that it is different with its multinational thing, so at least they're not doing the dreaded new-actors-same-script thing. Really Fox, you could've just kept making Dollhouse and we all would've been happy.

Who knows, maybe they make a continuation and Jack can't face going back to Gwen to he goes to the American branch instead. Wasn't Martha working for the US branch at some point?
Either way Fox is bound to stuff it up. Even if its good.

Wait, there's still going to be a new season of Torchwood, isn't there? (A normal season). This isn't what they meant by a new season? (Please say that Torchwood is not going to be AMERICAN from now on! :-/ [act]shudders[/act] ). Not that I think the American version will necessarily be bad... I just want the old Torchwood back, too. It wouldn't be the same. :-/ I like the small-scale stuff - those little episodes are always my favourites! I don't want it to be made all 'national security risk' all the time. :-{
As long as we still get our normal, good Torchwood, I'm ok with it. I mean, I think it's ridiculous that they have to remake perfectly good shows just for American audiences, and I have a feeling that they're going to completely ruin it (make it all big-scale, action-packed, THE ALIENS ARE ATTACKING, and all that...), but as long as we don't have to watch it, it's all good.
But seriously - how shallow do they think American audiences are?! Do they think that Americans won't watch a show unless it's set in America, and features dramatic full-scale action/fighting with hardly any plot? Do they think American audiences can't handle something that's a little bit different/out-there? It's just ridiculous. It's like babying the whole of the American nation. "No, you won't like this show, it's too out-there for you. I'll just fix it up and make it all nice and black-and-white like you're used to, shall I?"
How about they give people the benefit of the doubt and actually try out these shows over there?
Honestly. :|
Anyway, that's my rant on the subject. ;D I just don't understand why they do this...
