MK - how bizarre! I could have sworn you mentioned Last Exile a few posts above me, but now that I've gone back to look, I can't see you mentioning it anywhere. ??? Muat be anime-induced hallucinations. :P
...Oh, wait! It wasn't you who mentioned Last Exile, it was Sara. Sorry. ~:| I guess because Sara quoted you in her post, I got muddled.
Regarding Count of Monte Cristo - I think it's on the Animekiwi site I linked to above. Which reminds me, I really have to watch that. It looks great, but even when I do have time I keep forgetting to.
And Deltora Quest - I saw a couple of episodes of it, but I agree, the artwork wasn't really my thing and it was a bit tricky to find. I still long for most of my favourite books to be adapted into anime, though. :P

Bah - I really do still need to watch Last Exile - but currently my anime/manga obsessions are these:
- Watching 'Read or Die' again, - or to be 100% correct: 'R.O.D the TV' and watching the commentary - it was interesting to hear how much thought and effort went into selecting the voice actors for this particular show. And well, it shines through - I am quite fond of this dub, it's probably one of my favourites.
- Reading (after watching) The Twelve Kingdoms. It's so good! I'm quite sad only two books have been translated. And yes - they are books, not manga.
It's about a girl who, for something different :P starts off in Japan and then gets dragged away to another world, that is resemblant somewhat of 'China'.
I think what appeals to me in this series is the trials that Yoko (the girl who gets dragged off) goes through some 'real world' issues - she deals with real life things - amongst of course demons and beasts (I do enjoy a good fantasy side to everything ;)).
But yes - I'm so sad because! The anime got culled off (in Japan as well) and so, I have to read the novels to find out what REALLY happens in the end, but they've only translated two :(
...
So :P enough ranting from me - any other titles people are currently reading?
Oh! I know what I'm also reading :P 'The Queen's Knight' which isn't technically manga as it's from Korea, not Japan - but the art is very pretty and lotsa couple shipping to satisfy the fangirly side of me ;D
I like Cardcaptors, I know its old, but I still like it, unfortunately, there aren't any english versions left, I'll have to buy the jap version...are they any different?

What do you mean by 'there isn't any English versions left?' are you talking manga or anime?
If anime:
Cardcaptors english dub is terribly different from Cardcaptors Japanese. I watched the English dub (haven't seen the Jap) and I didn't mind it (sure, Sakura had some odd intonations at times, but I got by). But for the 'die-hard' fans out there, they detested the dub.
For example: Kero, in English is kinda a 'fast talking/cool guy' voice - in the Jap version, he's very sweet/cutestsy voiced.
I'm pretty sure the English dubbed killed the romances between Lee/Mei and Tori/Julian. A few names they changed as well:
e.g. Madison is really Tomoyo and Julian's name is Yuki in the Jap.

oh no! not Cardcaptors!!!
I remember when 2 years ago I decided to rewatch the series (I had seen random episodes of cardcaptors on tv as a child) but all I could find was the sub. So I watched the first 10 episodes of the sub and then when I found a site with the dubs I thought I'll switch to them. Shock-horror! I discovered just how appalling and edited and ridiculous the dub is. I wanted to defend it but there was just no way. They had changed SO MUCH for no reason at all.
You're free to prefer whichever you like Maruman but I'd say go for it with getting the japanese versions and give them a try, theres a lot more to them (plus there are more episodes as they cut out any of the first ones which didn't involve Syaoran/Lee in the american dub because they didn't think a show with a strong female lead would work).

See yes :P I'm afraid to watch the sub now. Well, not afraid :P but I don't particularly want to see how badly they changed it.
It's Sailor Moon all over again! Or rather, was Sailor Moon - dubs nowadays are getting much better.
Random note: If you're looking for some good 'mature' animes to watch. And by mature, I mean, a little more than pretty girls running around in fantasy worlds :P then I recommend:
- Le Chevalier Deon
- Gankutsuou
- Trigun
These are ones I'm a fan of (and no doubt :P harped about them before :P)

Heya everyone!
Wow! I haven't spoken to anyone about anime in soooooo long. Actually, it's been a while since I've even watched any. Shameful I know, I'll go and sit in a corner for a while as punishment. Just reading all this anime discussion has rekindled my love!
A few of my favourites are Fruits Basket (both anime and manga, I had no idea just how much more involved and developed the manga was compared to the anime!), Cowboy Bebop, Azumanga Daioh (I know it has pretty much no plot at all, but I still like it. Chiyo-chan's so cute!), Full Metal Alchemist, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Ghost in the Shell (the 1st Gig rather than the 2nd), and Studio Ghibli movies (in particular My Nerighbour Totoro, Nausicaa and Spirited Away).
My most prized possession is my plush Totoro toy. He's lovely!!
I watched 6 episodes of Hellsing once, that freaked me right out.
Fruits Basket is the only manga I've read (well, I haven't even finished that yet, it takes ages to order in each volume to our little local bookshop). What else do you reccommend? (you being absolutely everyone out there!)

Kaede - if you loved the anime, you'll adore the manga! It is brilliant!
As for manga, what sort do you like? If it's pretty art, then I go Clamp all the way (plus, I do enjoy their stories :P)
Side note: Ghost in the Shell - :-/ I'm undecided about which gig I liked better... I did quite enjoy 2 as well, but 1 with the laughing man...
Then again, it's been so long since I've seen them, I thinks I may need to rewatch ;)
Watching R.O.D the TV again. Not as good second time round, but I still love it, the animation is lovely and I love the dub!

Well, I go for pretty much any decent fantasy plot. If there are a few animals blurred into the storyline here and there, then that's great!!
The thing I find really disappointing about manga is that I wait so long for them to come into the store, then when they're finally there, it's all over so fast!! After I finish a volume I'm so lost. It's so good but too short! Oh woe is me!!

It's been awhile, but perhaps something like Inuyasha? It's about a girl who manages to stumble into ancient Japan and turns out she's a reincarnation of a priestess. Together, with a half demon named Inuyasha the two are off to retrieve sharks of a the Shikon jewel before it falls into the wrong hands...
It's not so much animals, more demons :P but there's definitely fantasy element.
I don't actually read that much manga |:( Watch lotsa anime, and come to think of it, I've slowly been moving away from the fantasy types and more 'real situations'. Mmm well :P no I lie, I like fantasy like sorcery and sword play mixed in with intriguing people plots :D
What does that mean: afraid I'm not too familiar with many animal-ish plots ^.^;;

I just wish that they'd followed that back story more closely than the main plot! I found it intriguing too.

I sympathise with the pain of reading manga, Kaede: it only takes an hour or two to get through a volume, so you have to have a whole pile all ready to read before you start or you go mad waiting for more! They're also so expensive - often at least 10 volumes in a single series, and each at least $15. It really adds up. [act]sigh[/act] Thank Lud my public library has some, anyway. And have you tried onemanga.com? It might save you ordering in so much.
For swords-and-sorcery fantasy I'd recommend two manga (well, they're Korean, so technically they're manwha, but you know), The Queen's Knight and Arcana. I've found them both enjoyable reading so far, though I'm not very far into Arcana. Great artwork in both, fairly intriguing plots, and The Queen's Knight has some great characters. It's also a good series if you're a diehard shipper like me. :P

The thing I find most devestating (in the way of money) concerning manga is that I work in an Angus and Robertson store which doubles a newsagency, but because it's a franchise, there are some things we just don't get in, manga being one of them! Frustration! It would be so good if I was able to use my staff discount on them, but instead I have to go to another bookshop and order them (shh, don't tell my bosses that I go to another book store)...

XD well - it is anime - anything can happen!
Hi everyone :D
Sorry I haven't checked this thread in ages :P
Um...about Cardcaptors, I saw a jap version in the shop, but I didn't know whether or not it was worth it, looks like I'm going to then
*runs to the shop*
Oooo a manga thread, which leads to anime ... this is where i come ALIVE! BAhahah!!
Oh, where to start.
Full Metal Alchemist is definitely the greastest. Along with ROD.
Tho if you start with the greatest, the lesser-great ones (altho enjoyable), may not be as enjoyable if you start off with the greatest.
KyAhh! I LOVE One Piece! It is the best. Much better than Naruto. Altho Naruto is good, it is quite overrated. Yes, One Piece is not the most prettiest anime.
Even I thought the drawings of the long lanky legs were weird, =D
But yeah, it does get a bit getting used to, gotta watch at least 20 eps or something to get into the anime.
Once you do tho, you will love it. IT IS HILARIOUS! Especially when you start to have the whole crew members.
Oh, and definitely in original, yeah i heard about how they gave Sanji a lollipop! HAHA, gasps! That just totally ruins his character image >.< and scenes where they get sliced but no blood haha, funny.
I think I had a whole list of anime recommendations somewhere on this forum, (wouldn't know where to find it either) so will not type out any, because the list is just too long. I've seen too many animes.
But I'll talk about the ones mentioned.
12 Kingdoms is great! The beginning was confusing for me, so many names, i forgot who was who. But i loved it in the end. However, it doesn't actually finish finish, even tho the anime finishes. The author stopped writing or something.
Last Exile is good! I enjoyed it!
Okay okay, if I was forced to recommend, there are my top 3 must watch:
FMA
Full Metal Panic + FMP Fumoffu (season seasond, the most HILARIOUS) + FMP The Second Raid (third season)
ROD
Recommended ongoing series:
One Piece
Detective Conan (or as it's sometimes called Case Closed)
End, better not say anymore ... =S
OK, mayb not ..
Just an extra mention ...
If anyone liked Death Note, they should definitely watch Code Geass, similar thing, but I think Code Geass is better.
ALSO, any MECHA fans, a must see is GUNDAM SEED 00, the lastest one out.
yeah ive recently started watching code geass, and im finding it to be death note + mecha. its drool worthy :P

hhaha I'm glad you're liking Code Geass. Second season is out too. Second season is AWESOME!
You would probably know this if you've taken a look at the 'I'm reading manga' thread, but I love Godchild (hehe, there's nearly four pages of mad ranting about it there :P ). So I would recommend that to anyone. It's definitely not a light-hearted manga (it's a bit of a tragedy, actually), but it has its funny moments. Plus the art is beautiful, and the characters are intriguing. And I can't go past a darkly twisted fairy-tale theme. It's set in 19th century england (I think?), and basically it has a whole lot of fairy-tale themed murders/mysteries. Plus there's an on-going plot arc as well. :P
Plus Vampire Knight is good, I'd recommend that.
And I haven't watched much anime. I love Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. They're beautiful. I'ce got a whole list of anime movies lined up that I have to watch. Now if only I could find them somewhere... :P (My video store isn't big on the anime).
But I've just finished watching this series called Blood+ which I loved. It's beautiful and tragically poetic at times, with great characters. It's got everything - mystery, action, occasional light moments, swoon-worthy guys... ^_^
But anyway, now that I've finished it, I'm feeling kind of lost. Could anyone recommend another anime series along the same lines?
Actually I did, haha I didn't read everything (4 pages is a lot! HAHA) and I might try reading it myself, so I didn't want to know too much about it incase it spoilt it for me.
I've actually seen some episodes of Vampire Night. I guess if I didn't have so many other choices of animes to watch, I would have continued it to the end. Vampire Night isn't too bad, but other animes caught my attention more. A friend watched it all, even onto second season, Vampire Night Guilty. She said the ending was horrible. haha.
Since I haven't seen Blood+, I can't quite recommend any animes along the same lines. But I can recommend some good, but a different type of genre of anime.
I recently finished Moyashimon, and I liked it heaps! haha, It's about a boy who can see bacteria with his naked eye. Aw, the bacterias are just SO CUTE. It has some comedy factor in it. This anime reminded me of Mushishi, which I loved alot! I was hoping for a second season, but nope! =( Mushishi doesn't have much comedy in it. It's a serious anime. But sOOo good.
Yay!!!! People who like to talk about cardcaptors, I watched the English dub because it made me remeber some good times I had watching it in primary school's and then i watched the japanese version along with the movies, the second of which is my favourite anime movie (although I've only seen one!!!!!). Has anyone here read Love Hina? It's about this guy called Keitaro who fails to gain entrance to tokyo University two years in a row, he then leaves home to try and gain residence to the hinata Inn, which his grandma owns, however the inn has since been transformed into a girls dorm. Keitaro ends up becoming the Landlord of the Hinata Girls Dormitory and a long series of events that leads Keitaro to find the girl of his dreams (literally!!!!)
Anyway anyone who reads it comment on it please because I want to know what other people think!!!!!
just found this thread ;D
I would recomend
FMA (not finished yet)
Death Note
Bleach (of course)
Soul Eater
Naruto
One piece
Cowboy Bepop
Code Geass
SOme I havn'y seen/finished but they've been rated highly
Hello! Sorry to drag up an old post. But wanted to reply to Black Dog.
I have not read Love Hina the manga, but I did watch the anime! It was one of the first animes I watched that made me love watching anime! I became an anime freak! The very first anime I watch was Initial D. Funny story how I started on it. A friend gave it to me and told me it was about car racing and recommended I watch it. I wasn't really interested in cars racing so put it off for ages. Then one day I was bored so thought I'd give it a go and the first episode when Takumi did the Inertia Drift, gosh, that left me jaw-dropping wanting more, LOL. And that was my first anime experience. Love Hina was my next experience. I loved it! I thought it was hilarious! I even rewatched it a few times =] Old favourite of mine.

If you don't get a lot of manga where you live you can always read it online. The amount of anime and manga online is ridiculously huge you just have to dig a bit before you find it. It really is great though just tell your preferences and a someone will make you a list.
since you seem to like maison ikkoku by rumiko takahashi you should try more of her works which are really great personally I enjoyed ranma 1/2
lol sorry tried to post link didn't work but yeah here is a list of stuff she did:
Urusei Yatsura
Mermaid Saga
Ranma1/2
Rumic Theater
InuYasha
Rin-ne
