I think we should add Arien's rebuttal... as first negative speaker you should be allowed to rebut their argument. And then their second speaker will rebut your argument and so on.

Poke: Annihilation is defined as "total destruction" or "complete obliteration" of an object;[1] having its root in the Latin nihil (nothing). A literal translation is "to make into nothing". Annihilation is the opposite of exnihilation, which means "to create something out of nothing".
They think a teaspoon can do what the GREAT WHITE, couldn't??? PMSL.
Nevermind.
To adding Arien's rebuttal: Okey-dokey.

i think they are trying to exnihilate with a teaspoon.....lol you can put it in TSC, and we'll see how it sounds....lol *pokes* AHHHH!!! my finger is caught!!!!!
Wait...it was teaspoon before, right? Just reading their opener again, and they've changed it to 'spork'! Opting for a more evil utensil...sneaky...
*looks for anything else to rebut* Well, can't really see much else. Unless we use this-
"Just think: all of this could have been avoided if not for the power and greed of the Beforetimers." to say that it was in fact the people behind the machines that were evil, not the technologies themselves.

Welcome Moonfairies, Gypsies, fellow Obernetters and the Affirmative team.
The topic for this round of debating is:
“Beforetime technology should stay in the Beforetime.â€
As the negative team, we dispute the sagacity of this statement, and believe that exploring and learning about Beforetime technology would be the best way forward for the Land. First of all, what do we mean by saying Beforetimer technology should not stay in the beforetime?
Technology is a broad concept that deals with a species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affects a species' ability to control and adapt to its environment. If we do not listen to the warnings of the past then how will we learn to achieve better in the future? Technology could benefit the greater community in the Land; Before timer technologies have been discovered that can provide valuable resources; including medical treatment, food, water and shelter; all important social issues within the Land.
I will be discussing the benefits that beforetime technology can have for our society. It can provide better medical treatment as well as improved security.
Our second speaker will inform you of the importance of learning from the past. They will argue that we must explore the past in order to progress to the future.
Our third speaker will consider all of the social and cultural benefits that the Beforetimers could pass on to the Land through their technology.
Our fourth speaker will sum up our argument and persuade you that leaving Beforetime technology in the past is definitely not the best solution for our people.
We should also mention that what the affirmative wish to do; destroying or covering up beforetime technology; is a short-term solution, while ours is a long-term solution. We're devising a solution for the future, not just the present.
The Affirmative Team mentioned:
"There’s always the chance that seekers of the past may misunderstand the purpose of Beforetime technology: a misunderstanding that could have drastic effects. "
Obviously, the best way to avoid misunderstandings is to educate the Landpeople about beforetime technology- i.e.: bringing them to the forefront and explaining them instead of covering them up and pretending they don't exist.
They also mentioned:
"This point is linked to the danger of obsession. Consider the Teknoguilders and the way they are completely consumed by their work. Their obsession with the past technology is dangerous - they risk their lives for it every day. "
This one reinforces the fact that people are inquisitive and always trying to improve what's around them- they're going to start making or finding their own technologies, and if they don't know what previously created ones did in the past, things like the great white will just end up occurring again.
We of the Negative team believe that ignorance is not bliss. Ignoring or shunning the knowledge of Beforetime technology will not solve the problems of the Gypsies, and it will not solve the problems of the Land. We do not wish to leave you, the audience, or you, the judges, with the wrong impression, the Negative team believe that not all technology should stay in the Beforetime, unlike the Affirmative team, who would have us leave all technology, whether it be destructive or beneficial, behind. The knowledge of the Beforetimers could help us make informed choices about whether or not to keep or destroy the technology that we could find, that anybody could find. And we will find technology, the curious will always exist in every society. We need to be prepared for every eventuality... even the every-day utensil, the teaspoon, or even the mysterious fork/spoon hyprid; the Spork; annihilating the world.

That's really good. I also have another point for the rebuttal of :
"This point is linked to the danger of obsession. Consider the Teknoguilders and the way they are completely consumed by their work. Their obsession with the past technology is dangerous - they risk their lives for it every day. "
And the technoguilders obviously enjoy thor work. They know that there is danger and they accept it readily, because they are fascinated by before-time technology and the benefits it can provide. Would you say that it is wrong for a scientist to perform experiments in order to come up with a new vaccine, just because there is a slight amount of danger involved? There is nothing wrong with doing what you love.
I just thought of another point that we could mention.
Even our own farseeker guidmistress, Elspeth Gordie, realises the absurdity of leaving Beforetime weapons in the past. You might say - "Hang on, Elspeth's quest is to destroy the weaponmachines, not use them!"
Yes, Elspeth plans to destroy the weaponmachines. But to do this, she has to actively seek and discover them. The Agyllians foresaw that if we ignored the weaponmachines and left them in the past (that is, if we don't destroy them) then the whole world will be annhiliated.
Are we going to just twiddle our thumbs and pretend that the weaponmachines aren't there, and wait for them to destroy our world? The negative team, and elspeth and the Agyllians, think not.
Also, with the above speech, should the rebuttals come sooner?

Firstly, I would like to point out some flaws in the opposition's argument.
The Affirmative Team mentioned:
"There’s always the chance that seekers of the past may misunderstand the purpose of Beforetime technology: a misunderstanding that could have drastic effects. "

The affirmative team basically told us that leaving the beforetime technology in the past would prevent another Great White. However, we of the negative team disagree with this.
Even our own farseeker guidmistress, Elspeth Gordie, realises the absurdity of leaving Beforetime weapons in the past. You might say - "Hang on, Elspeth's quest is to destroy the weaponmachines, not use them!"

*Helena exits stage*
I added in my second rebuttal about Elspeth's quest, but I didn't add the first one. I wasn't sure if it was good enough.
Anyway, you can take my rebuttal out if you don't like it. And I'm not sure about that last sentence I added, either.
The only thing the Affirmative team could say is that if we leave Beforetime technology in the past, then there will be no need to prepare for the devastating effects it could have.

okay! posted! time to start on the second persons post!!!! *dances!!*
I can't be bothered reading through all that. Its why too long, but I'm guessing its good.
Here is some snappy sounding rebuttals, sorry its a bit bleh...
The affirmative team has thus far given no good grounds as to why beforetime technology with its all encompassing resources should not be used as a means to further the knowledge of everyone in the Land. They have failed to address the topic at hand, instead listing off reasons as to why it would be a bit of a chore and not actually disputing the fact that it is beneficial to our society. Yes there is an element of risk in its retrieval but risk is a fact of life… even picking up oh I dunno….say a spork involves some level of risk. Risk is ingrained in almost everything we do in life, if we put off everything on the grounds that its too ‘risky’ we would become a race of bubble boys… obsolete and on the whole a backwards group of people. We as the Negative team believe that by taking a short step back into the past, harnessing and understanding beforetime technologies we can take two giant leaps into the future. Another point that the Affirmative team has made hinges on the issues of power and obsession… but everything in society cannot be locked away and ignored just because there is a chance of becoming obsessed, that is simply preposterous. What makes obsession over technology any worse than obsession of over things in life? If its not obsession with beforetime technologies (which isn’t actually the case anyway…its more of a passion than an obsession on teknoguilders’ behalf) it will be obsession with illegal herb lore drugs…you cannot rid society of every possible addiction so why is it a necessity (the topic of “Beforetime technology should stay in the past†implies necessity) to leave the valuable technologies of the beforetimers to rot away with all its knowledge. Obsession is inevitable in life, as is another issue the Affirmative team has raised: power. Power is not solely achieved through beforetime technologies, there are many ways to go about becoming some sort of evil dictator and none of them thus far has been exclusively through beforetime technologies. If the corrupt do not seek power through technology then they will find other means… technology is not evil, the people that weild it in malevolence are the ones that bring about the true damage.

i thought about it, and one thing that i came up with is, if we find the Beforetime tech. we could possibly modify the tech. so that it runs, like the light in the teknoguilders caves, i don't know if anyone remembers, but in one of the books, i think it was in TKP when the Sadorians we visiting for, ironically, Moonfair, Elspeth and the Sadorians walk into the caves and in the 'library' there is a light, like and electric light.
i don't know if that helps, but if the technoguilders can do it......
EDIT: gah! now you mention it TSC! meh, oh well... to late now...

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doodoo!
Is it too late? Didn't the other team change teaspoons to sporks, or something?
MEh...
That sounds good, but I think we already rebutted in our fist speech. Maybe we could incude those rebuttals in Speaker Four's debate? I think they're supposed to rebut all of the affirmative team's arguments and sum up all of ours.

It would hardly be a paragraph, maybe half a line to a line.
Maybe even a [act]shoots knowing glance at (Ariel? Destroyer?)[/act] stuck in at the end of the paragraph.

It all sounds great guys! Let's see how good their rebuttal skills are now :) Okay, so the second speaker is talking about the importance of learning from the past, aren't they? I think our argument for that has already been outlined in previous pages... I'll have to have a look lol, so many posts :P
