I think it is the cliffs in the LotRQ it gives it mystical air and grandeur ...No cover designers read the books! I think the hand of Aus. covers girl is at an odd angle and the girl on Us one has too puffy cheeks. She needs black hair with shape! and Samantha Stephens from bewitched sort of cheeks and facial shape.
I think it is the same girl. But the angle and maybe some editing make it look different.
In the US version of the Sending it shows some sort of body of water in it. Maybe it was silly of me but I always assumed that her journey would be through the mountains, and the last time I checked the mountains were not in he midle of what looks lke an ocean... :|
But maybe her journey takes her accross and over the mountains to the other side of the land and this is where she finds the compound...
If this is true then maybe she can catch a lift back to LOTRQ by a ship fish!!
Sorry I am getting lost in my fantasies... none of this will be in the book I am sure *sigh* :-/
I’m re-reading The Keeping Place at the moment and just passed the part where the futuretellers give Elspeth a shawl with beasts embroidered on it (pp244 in my version). Maryon and Dell tell her when they give it to her that they have worked out that she is the Innle of the Beast legends. I think these blurbs make sense of the particular beasts depicted on the shawl (foreshadowing those who go with her on the final quest maybe?)
So there is:
“a tyger with flaring eyes†(Maruman)
“a rearing black horse and a small pony†(Gahltha and maybe Faraf?)
“a dark dog and a white one†(Darga and Raisal?)
“three silver-eyed wolves†(The Brildane)
“and … a dragon hovering over all the rest†(not sure about this – maybe the influence that Dragon’s mind was having on the Talents at the time added this influence in?)
Funny, I’ve never paid much attention this passage until these blurbs mentioned the wolves… I keep finding lots more foreshadowing things each time I re-read the books. Can’t wait for the last one so that it all finally makes sense!
Good observation Lena. I always read that scene and thought, oh yeah foreshadowing but never really gave it too much thought as to which characters each was representing. Galtha, Maruman and Dragon seemed obvious but I didn't put any thought into the others. Darga and Rasial is interesting though . . . [act]ponders[/act]

OML can't wait. I'm actually going mad...
Could the jaguar like animal in The Red Queen be the form maruman takes when on the dreamtails? I'd say the background for the sending was the blacklands. though of course can't be sure. the small pony on her clothing could that be galtha's child?
Early march or late march for australia?
OML I should probably check the members board more often!!
How awesome is it that WE get the book before the US!! Usually movies and series and music etc come out there first, and we always get everything last! YAY!
What do people think about how they compare IC to TP? I mean I love TP, but I think IC has so much more to them with various issues...
Unfortunately, it seems that the release date for America has been pushed back from May 25, 2010 to July 27, 2010.

Guys - did you see the "sending release" thread? Because it appears to be coming out August 2010 at the earliest...so wave goodbye to March/July :"(
I was just looking at the American versions of the Sending and the Red Queen on Amazon.com, and it said that they were going to be released on July 27, 2010. Has this been posted yet? *dpm*

The dates are continually changing Timtam. We will get notification when the fianl date is announced and it will probably be posted on the news page so keep an eye out.
I can't wait- i am so excited XD
Same!! I just can't wait!! :-}
Personally I think using almost photos of real-life people/animals on the covers detract from the fantasy feel of the book. I hope when The Sending is (finally) released that they would release a lovely collector's edition which I would love to own! (I'm thinking of the His Dark Materials trilogy which got released in a lovely collector's edition which I saw in Borders last year).
I distinctly remembering my friend and I in 2006 going to a bookshop and being told that The Sending was coming out in 2007. The book that was released was actually the Stone Key (lol) so I hope the story can wrap up soon! Can't wait!
... I mean, can you believe that Obernewtyn was written in 1987? Wow, that's 23 years ago!
Yeah obernewtyn is older than some of us here (or maybe just me ~:|)
I emailed penguin and got a reply saying, At the moment the tentative release date is 30th August 2010. And you can peorder. So, sadly, goodbye to the March/Feb date :(
Yay for Aussie getting it first for once!! ;P
I'm crazy for the last two books too...but i have great patience to wait till next year when the library near me can get the books.
