Greetings Obernetters,
Hip hip hooray! Planning for the 2008 Moonfair has begun! Please read the following info, and if there are any questions, you can reply to this thread.
For the newbies:Obernewtyn.net holds an annual online Moonfair. In the past, typical activities have included games, puzzles, treasure hunts, writing and art comps, recipes, quizzes, storyboards...anything goes! Planning starts as of now, until the end of August. The Moonfair itself runs from
September 1st to October 31st. During those two months, the aim is to earn as many points for your guild as possible, and to have as much fun as possible too! The guild that earns the most points wins the illustrious Moonfair Cup.
Changes- to Overall pointage:Moonfair points will all be tallied as usual, however instead of adding entire total of points accumulated to guild total, we will award 100 points to first place, 80 points to second, 60 to third and 50 to last.
This is to ensure that the guild that wins Moonfair doesn't automatically win the Ongoing Guild comp as well.
- to Competition structure: Guilds don't have to come up with a specific number of comps.
They are encouraged to come up with 1 or 2 'official' Ashling, Dreamie, Mystics and Wandie comps, but it doesn't matter if your guild hits target or not.
Instead we are trying the idea of 'friends' designing competitions. Eg; Ari (Mystics) and Tanya (Dreamies) might get together and construct a competition where you have to submit some gypsy-related artwork. Dark One (Ash) and Maz (Wandies) might devise a quiz. Etc.
The aim of this new idea is to:
a) take pressure off moonfairies/ML2s to push guild for 10 competitions ideas.
c) encourage action; if you have a great idea for a comp, you have to make it happen!
d) encourage inter-guild friendships, rather than segmenting ourselves off on our guild boards for 3 months during preparation.
e) enable non-guild members to take part.
f) raise importance of the quality of competitions, rather than quantity.
What do the Guilds have to do?We are hoping that each guild will still host their (regular) forums. As well as that, as a guild come up with 1 or 2 competitions that will be official Ashling, Dreamie, Mystic and Wandie comps.
This new competition idea doesn't stop you from interacting with your guildmates, either; if you and your friend are in the same guild and want to create a competition, go right ahead! It will fall into the categorical competitions rather than the official guild ones.
So what about these Categories, then?Competitions will fall into the following categories:
- Artwork (where the entrant must submit an image)
- Writing (where the entrant must submit a story or play)
- Theory (where the entrant must submit a theory/essay/speculation)
- Quiz (Q & A)
- Combination (a competition that combines any of the above)
- RPG (where entrants must interact over a period of time)
- Misc (anything we've missed)
If you have an idea for a competition, please see the Competition Guidelines & Submission for information on how to submit your idea to the MoonfairiesThemesThis is the 9th anniversary of Obernewtyn.net, so the overall design theme will be
Leather and Pottery with the secondary theme of
Gypsies (as it always works well!).
There will be no individual guild themes this year, however there will still be guild sections of the Moonfair website to host their special competitions & information about their forums.
Moonies - Moonfairies this year are Emerald, Min, MornirKirara and Lioness, with Lauren taking a backseat due to her being in the UK / planning her wedding!
- Moonie Level 2's (ML2's) and Moonie Level Web (MLW's):
This year, each guild is required to nominate a single ML2, who will work in conjunction with your corresponding Moonfairy to ensure the 1 or 2 guild ideas are on track.
There will be 4 more ML2 positions up for grabs, to assist in the organisation and coordination of the various categories. It doesn't matter if you belong to any particular guild or not.
Please talk amongst yourselves on your guild message boards to decide who would be the best representative from your guild to be ML2.
Remember that they need to be reliable, with constant internet access, and full of guild spirit. Newbies or oldbies are welcome.
If you would like to apply to be a non-guild ML2, please PM Moonfairy :)
- MLW's are required regardless of guild membership; anyone who has experience in coding websites to volunteer their services and help compile the competitions into html format. If you would like to be an MLW, please PM the Moonfairy. You will be given a website template to base the competitions on, however PLEASE do not apply to be an MLW if you have no experience with html as we won't have time to explain things to you, or if you don't have the time to commit to creating pages as we'll be relying on you!!
- If you miss out on being an ML2 or MLW, judges are always needed for events too!!
The
Ober Awards Ceremony will take place as per usual, thanks to the leadership of our two new
Award Fairies, Tanya and Eilidh. Watch this space for nomination info from them!
That's about it for now. This thread will be updated as new information surfaces. If you have any questions, please post them here.
