*sigh* Sticking to canon here is like accepting Draco Malfoy's marriage to an anonymous random pureblood - Boring!

As genius as the creators of Avatar are, they highly misjudged the fandoms love for Zuko/Katara

Zutara is a very natural consequence, just as Lily/James Potter and Draco/Hermione is :P I love love/hate relationships! :D They are exciting!

Aang has Toph, they are both the same age-ish (or height anyway); Sokka has Suki and Iroh ... has tea! So all is well according to me.

But...Zutara....it's just....wrong!
How can you not think Aang and Katara are meant to be together! Aang makes Chuck Norris look like a German schoolboy, he's ninja and adorable!
And you know, if he were seven or eight years older and not fictional, hey, I might be interested myself :P

I guess I have a bigger crush on Zuko than Aang... |:| partly because of the age. Aang is still a boy! I can only think of him as a cute little boy. Zuko on the other hand, has smouldering yellow eyes. (Remind you of anyone? :P ) I hope you understand my placing Zuko above Aang in the "who snags Katara?" contest.

Haha - we should have a "who snags Elspeth" Contest! :P

Well, I like Zuko (he's downright spunky sometimes!), but I just love Aang more.
And I know Aang is disturbingly young (PML, I sound like I'm trying to justify a relationship between us :P ), but he's very mature. He's done some pretty amazing stuff, and come up with some great solutions despite pressure from others eg. hey, let's murder the Fire Lord!

I'm a sucker for yellow eyes too... *thinks of InuYasha* ... ;P

Who snags Elspeth Contest? Haha, that would probably end like most Elspeth-romance discussions; much yelling between Dameon and Rushton fans :P

HotD, I'm with you. The idea of Zuko and Katara makes me cringe. It's just not right. I'd never heard of the concept until arriving in this thread a few minutes ago. I never would have even imagined it! Aang and Katara are meant to be. He'll grow up, and then his age won't matter. And yes, he is very mature *imagines him wizzing around on a ball of air, crashing into a rock*

Can I just mention my love for Momo? Thanks.

by the way remember how many times Zuko has tried to catch Aang(and the fact that Zuko is a firebender(and an outcast) and Katara is a waterbender-so i don't think they'll go together anyway)And Zuko will never be welcome anywhere. besides remember Katara broke that big iceberg Aang was in and they have travelled and fought together alot.

Momo can be a little annoying but I kind of like him/it. but seriously naming him after a peach?

I most probably have no idea of what I'm talking about

Well, I'm not completely opposed to the idea of Aang/Katara - it's sweet how Aang has a cute little crush on her. At least it's better than Katara ending up with Jet or someone else equally ridiculous.

bookworm - it's precisely Zuko and Katara's adversarial stances that makes the thought of how they could overcome all their differences and be together all the more interesting :P

Can I just mention my insane dislike of Zuko/Mai again? x_X

I'm sooo sure the writers have been playing all the Zutara shippers. There are actually a lot of instances where you think they're going to reconcile their differences. Like when they're stuck in that crystal cave together, and Katara's going to use her special healing water on Zuko...but no, Zuko then ruins every moment by doing something stupid, like siding with psycho Azula ::)
I'm not really a Zutara shipper...I don't think I really ship Kataang either though ??? Anyone want to convert me to their cause? :P

I love Momo too. And the cabbage man, and foaming at the mouth guy. And Zuko.
Oh, and did ya'll know there's this insane Zhao fandom out there, full of people who think Admiral Zhao is totally spunky? :P

Come on people, get on the Kataang bandwagon! This Zutara stuff is just ridiculous to me. I really like Zuko and I think he's matured and changed a lot, but I don't think he could ever change enough to get along completely with Katara. Yep, ye olde fire/water incompatibility :P

Perhaps I just don't want Aang to end up alone..it's so horrible to think that he's the the only Airbender left. And I don't want him to end up with Toph either, that's the same as a Fire/Water match to me.

I'll join you hating Zuko/Mai, Arien. Mai is about as interesting as watching paint dry. Gotta love an angsty complainer ::)
I suppose I should be glad they're together though, it stops any ridiculous Aang/Katara/Zuko triangles from forming. I can't stand another triangle...

well - we all have one thing in common; Hating Zuko/Mai :D
and that Zhao group is totally eww. Must be a bunch of older women who made up the the fandom :P

Noooooo! Jump on the Zutara bandwagon Arien! There doesn't need to be a love triangle - Aang can fall in love with Toph and out of love with Katara just as Katara falls out of whatever with Aang, and in love with Zuko :P

Simultaneously!

Fire/water keeps things interesting though! Katara will have enough influence over Zuko with her wily ways to turn him from the horrible ideals implanted in him by Ozai, changing him enough for Katara and Zuko to get together!

And yes, I do believe the creators played with Zutara and even with Taang. Remember that little vision of the Avatar chasing Toph in the forest/jungly place?

Besides Toph/Aang being Air and Earth isn't an incompatible match; given that Aang is the avatar and as such is versatile enough to be with any element.

Come on people; believe in the best of these people and that they can change enough!!

Yeah, the Zhao thing is totally weird :P I don't get it.

I don't want Aang to end up with Toph either :-/ Or alone. That ep where he goes to find Monk Gyatso at the Air Temple is so sad :(
The biggest problem I have with the idea of Aang and Katara together is that Katara's always mothering everyone...I see her in that big sister kind of role, so the idea of her and Aang together is weird to me.
She also seems to become quickly infatuated with hero-type guys. Jet, and also Haru...
But then, I can't see Aang ending up with anyone else...sooo, Katara it is.

I must admit, I'm sure Zutara would result in much hilarity :P I prefer it to Zuko/Mai :|

I forgot to mention my love of the random hippies in The Cave of Two Lovers.
Such an awesome ep! Sokka is absolutely hilarious in it :D

Yes, the hippies! I was watching that episode last night and practically crying with laughter :D
One day, if I work hard, maybe I can sing and dance as well as them 8)

And I can't get enough of Sokka! At first I thought he was just going to be that annoyingly pathetic character, but he turned out to be hilarious! :D

And I know what you mean about Katara, Arien. But sometimes I think she's the most immature of the characters, despite how much she acts grown up and in control. The way she falls for all the good looking guys, or how she cracked it with Toph when she joined the group...
...but hey, just as long as Aang isn't alone!

Sokka is hilarious! ;P It's actually weird when he is the serious older brother.
The hippies are awesome! And Sokka in that ep is fantastic

I agree with Katara = mothering/older sistering Aang; and also being immature. It's weird where in those scenes Aang is the wiser one and Katara is just a teenage girl. I guess that's why I liked Zuko better with her...at least in those scenes she kicks [censored]! :P

I agree though; I don't want Aang ending up alone either...*sigh* why couldn't he have a crush on someone else??

Hmm, good point Frankie. I forget that Katara's only supposed to be 13 or 14..she tries to be the responsible one, but she's still just a kid!
Now that I think about it, there are a lot of times where she's really immature. Like stealing the waterbending scroll, coming up with a plan to cheat people out of their money with Toph, just so that the others stop calling her motherly and un-fun...

Yeah, I get a bit weirded out when Sokka acts all serious. :|

I don't think there's anyone else for Aang to have a crush on...everyone else sort of got their 'fling' characters, but Aang only has eyes for Katara :P

Yeah, sometimes Katara acts so mature I forget how young she is; then she turns into a gushing teenager, stalking fortunetellers and developing hero complexes, and I remember she's a girl barely out of adolescence. Which is why I don't really like to think of her being with anyone just yet - I'm a Kataang shipper, but I wish they'd wait a while. A 12-year-old and a 14-year-old doing anything moe than eying each other hopefully just weirds me out. :-/

Speaking of hilarious episodes, did anybody else nearly cry with laughter in the Ember Island Players? I loved it when the actors played out a Zutara scene in the crystal cavern (definitely a nod to the Katara/Zuko shippers from the scriptwriters, I think) and those two gave each other horrified looks and edged away. XD

I agree that there were suggestions of Toph/Aang, but did anyone else get the sense they were hinting at Toph/Sokka from time to time? Tsk - first the moon princess, then Suki, now Toph. Bad Sokka. :P

Anyway, I think Kataang is the most...right coupling for either of those two. You could argue for a violent fire/water chemistry between Katara and Zuko, I guess, but she and Aang have always been so close and complemented each other so well. I really can't see either of them with anyone else.

Yeah, I got a bit of Toph/Sokka as well at times. It seems there was hinting about relationships between everyone at some point :-/
...creepy *shudders*

I agree, it's a bit weird having all these love interests with such young characters, but maybe they're just trying to emphasize how different a time it is? 16 year olds go off to war or get married, it's like all the average ages have been lowered. Or you know, it makes an engaging sub-plot :P
And it worked! It's pretty much all we've talked about so far!

*sigh* The Ember Island Players... I think I cringed through most of that episode, not because it was bad, but because I felt so embarrassed for Aang, Katara and Sokka :P

Iroh is my favourite character (he would be ... I want some of his tea!) - he has some of the best lines!

With the whole weird relationship thing - is Avatar translated? Cos I know that American verions of some asian cartoons gloss over aspects that they don't like ...

It's not an Asian cartoon, it's produced in America. It's just modelled partly on anime, so it's a kind of mixture between Western/Eastern animation styles.
I ignored it for ages because someone told me it was just a "try-hard fake anime"...I wish I'd ignored them, because I was hooked with the first episode I watched.

Iroh is great! I also feel so bad for him for losing his son in the war. But I like that it caused him to take control of his life.

Avatar creators studied different real life martial styles to stylize the different bending techniques.

So firebending is more rigid and controlled in sharp bursts whereas water has more fluid movements.

The word Avatar originates from India; Sanskrit. It's a form of a deity.

The creators of Avatar melded several different Eastern cultures to create the story. But it is made by Americans. I think they were very successful in their endeavour.

I also want to add: I have not seen all of Avatar (not even all of Book 1) so please warn me about spoilers!!!!!!

Ohhh man Mono, you have to watch it all! It'd be nice if all the DVDs came out, that would make it a bit easier ::)

Oh yeah, there's definitely a Toph/Sokka thing going on too. More on Toph's part though I think.

I read somewhere about which martial art each form of bending is supposed to be based on. I think it's great that they put so much thought into it. Yeah, I think firebending is more to do with power, earthbending is very centered etc...it was pretty interesting.

I think I cried at the end of 'Tales of Ba Sing Se', when Iroh is mourning his son :(
I love the Sokka part of that episode though. Toooo good.

HAHAh you guys are funny. Fighting over which character should be with who. Especially when they are just animations. Real life drama I think is alright, but animations hHAHA is funny. Reminds me of when my friend called Sasuke from Naruto "hot". I was like ...=_= he's just a cartoon. HAHA

Anyways, I LOVE AVATAR! I loved all the fighting scenes! SO COOL. They put heaps of thought into it. And yeah, each form of bending is related to a certain real life martial arts. I think you can find out about it in Wiki. Good ol' wiki. HAHHA
I'm a crazed anime fan, and I absolutely detest dubbing, but I loved Avatar heaps! They did an excellent job! I couldn't believe it finished on Book 3! Hahah, I was expecting Book 4!

HAhah, and yeah, Sokka is hilarious!

Yay, Avatar! *sets up camp next to Frankie* Kataang forever! :D Because I think that Katara and Zuko would just start tearing at each others throats after a few days :P

Also, I totally see Toph growing up and never getting married and just being the happiest single woman on the planet. Because Toph is made of awesome :nod:

there's a site called 'watchavatartv' on which i saw most of avatar for free - but they seem to be only screening 1/2 the episodes these days ...
